Re: Ridden: Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 & Continental GT 650 Twin

Completed 5000 Kms on my twin, few of my notes

1) Engine has gone ultra smooth, stopped using it in the city after the first service. Engine has become much more silent, no more valve noise
2) Fuel Economy is very much sane, 80-90s gives me around 28 to 30; 100 to 120 gives me about 24
3) Seat: Butt has become used to the seat, was planning for a wider seat but no need. Able to work the next day after spending 700 kms on the saddle
4) Wife complains about the rear seating posture, need to check what more can be done
5) No parts have fallen off due to any vibrations as there are no vibes in the first place. Small vibes at the handle bars, need to check if increasing bar weights will solve the issue
6) Head-Light is really poor, need to check for any alternates. Not a big fan of LED
7) Need to check on the rear carrier to accommodate luggage. Bike does not have any provisions for the bungee cords to be fastened, wish they had given it some though
8) Fuel Guage: Not complaining anymore since i know i need to refill every 220 to 250 kms. Sorely miss the time as the watch is hidden by the sleeves
9) Waiting for other company accessories like LED Indicators and Touring Handle Bar

Re: Ridden: Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 & Continental GT 650 Twin

And after 6 months of constant pestering, borderline threatening emails, phone calls, sleepless nights and stress, the bike was delivered to me on Monday.

A big thanks to everyone who replied ty earlier post. I got the idea of calling up the ASM and talking directly to him from here. Genuine guy, was very helpful and showed interest in my complaints. He arranged a bike in my specification from another showroom and gave me delivery within one week of me calling him up.

The people at Concept Kazhakkoottam are pathetic to say the least. They don't even have a date for their deliveries to start. If someone is staying at Trivandrum and plan on buying a bike from concept, please don't. They are not worth your time or money. Anyways the past is in the past although I'm yet to receive the money for my booking cancellation.

The bike on the other hand is working brilliantly and is really smooth. Coming from a duke 390 (which I still own) the 650 is really smooth with minimal vibes. Although it's not as vibe free as they made it out to be in the reviews. The seats are something that you need to get used to as they are too soft. The pillion seating position is a pain in the bottom as it's awkward and uncomfortable for me. Shorter riders may be comfortable. I do like the horn on this bike, people actually move when they hear it. The exhaust is a bit quiet but does sound like a powerful bike.

Overall I am a very happy man grinning ear to ear

Legally yes, since the color has changed and will have to be updated in your RC.

But the dealer said that there won't be any issues since RTO will check only engine and chassis number and it doesn't come in tank.

And only the only change would be the colour of the tank, rest will remain same, so go with it. I am buying the gt in black colour and planning on changing the tank to chrome as well

Re: Ridden: Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 & Continental GT 650 Twin

For Rs. 50,000, upgrade to 750cc/865cc engines for the Royal Enfield Interceptor & Continental GT650

Quote:
S&S Performance is offering performance-enhancing kits for the 650 twins. Among the various performance enhancing mods available for Royal Enfield bikes from S&S, the 865 cc Big Bore Kit and the 750 cc Big Bore Kit is the most effective in boosting your bike’s power output. The 865 cc big bore kit costs $634.95 while the 750 cc big bore kit costs $630.95, which roughly translates into something around Rs. 50,000. The power output of the 650 twins lies in the range of 70-75 Bhp along with 80 Nm of torque with the 865 cc kit installed.

Apart from the big bore kits, there are several other performance mod parts available for the 650 twins. These include the:
  • Dynojet Power commander ECU
  • High-Flow Air Intake Eliminator Plate kit
  • High compression 11:1 kit piston kit
  • Stainless steel muffler set
  • High flow air filter
  • Performance clutch kit
  • High-performance camshaft kit with shims.

The prices of these kits and parts range from $23.95 to $641.95.

All of these performance accessories have been made especially for the Royal Enfield 650 twins and hence and have been tuned for maximum performance. Also, since the 650 twins sold in India are identical to the ones that are sold internationally and so there is no issue regarding the non-compatibility of these kits with the Indian spec bikes.

And if you want to change the glass of your headlight to clear, then the glass of old thunderbird is a direct fit but you have to buy it with the cover and it will cost you 800₹

Re: Ridden: Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 & Continental GT 650 Twin

When i took the test drive of the continental gt i wasn't happy at all with the rear view mirrors, they were vibrating and the field of view wasn't good, specially the right side one. I tried to adjust it but still no difference. So are the bar end mirrors any good apart from the aesthetics? I am getting my GT on Wednesday and i want a better set of mirrors.

Re: Ridden: Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 & Continental GT 650 Twin

Bulu Biker claims 50k maintenance costs on the Interceptor 650, for 20k kms of running! Most expensive parts being tyres and brake pads -

Surprised - because that's similar to what I've spent on the Versys 650 till 20k kms. Still would be cheaper than most other 650s (Honda guys might have something to say though), but sharing so that owners realise the potential costs upfront.

Re: Ridden: Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 & Continental GT 650 Twin

I skimmed through the video, few points that I noticed with regard to costs (my Hindi is a bit rusty so please correct me if I have mistaken any numbers or if I skipped through something important) when compared to that of the Continental GT 535.

- For the 650s, the front brake pads cost Rs 2,400 and the rear ones cost Rs 2,300. That's a small increase as compared to that of the GT535. The front brake pads cost me Rs 2,100 (inclusive of taxes) and I dont believe that I have got the rear brake pads changed so far. I know that the 80-20 front to rear braking is recommended, though Im more of a 90-10 guy myself. I cant see someone replacing the rear brakes quite often unless they follow a 50-50 strategy.

- For the 650s, the chain and sprocket kit costs Rs 4,700. The kit for the 535 costs Rs 1,741 and the corresponding labour charge is Rs 590. I changed mine at the 21,000 km mark.

- For the 650s, the cost of the front tires is Rs 8,000 and that of the rear is Rs 9,500 when bought from RE. Honestly Im not surprised because RE marks up the pricing of the tires when the sell it internally through their service network. The same issue was present when the GT 535 was on sale and hence owners ended up buying the replacement sets of PSD tires from outside where it was correctly priced. Here is the price of the front tire of the GT535 as per RE for reference - Rs 11,465 when the prices outside were much much less.

Ridden: Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 & Continental GT 650 Twin-tire.jpg

Ive been saying this from the beginning. The cost of replacement tires will be a challenge as Pirelli doesnt have the sales channels in place to get the tires available for users to switch. So owners will end up buying the tires from RE themselves as it isnt available elsewhere. In this case, I'll blame Pirelli and look at the Indian manufacturers to step up. MRF, Apollo and Ceat, what are your R&D teams upto these days? Why are options in 18 inch sizes so limited? Surely a premium two wheeler tire in 18 inch size isnt going to be hard to make. The market is there. Right now, Timsun seems to be a viable option but I dont know how many owners will want to go with a relatively new brand.

Got these pictures as WhatsApp forward which shows an interceptor with Timsum tyres. The cost mentioned was 11k for 2 tyres -
