Re: Volkswagen Jetta : Test Drive & Review

Here is the VW options code spec for reference.

One can check the build sheet in the car trunk near spare tyre and generate buildspec.

Amazing job there. Now we know whom to contact if anyone has a saggy roof
Do you get your Jetta serviced at an Authorised VW service center or do you go to an FNG for regular repairs?

In the past, I got things done at Mysore road ASC. Either myself or through Wheels Wisdom.

My latest service was from an FNG just 4 days ago, Sri Adiga Automotives, 75, 1, Outer Ring Rd, 2nd Phase, Hosakerehalli Layout, Banashankari 3rd Stage, Banashankari, Bengaluru, Karnataka 560086

2012 Jetta TDI: Timing Belt and Water pump due for replacement. Where do I get it done?

My 2012 Jetta TDI is nearing 100,000 kms and I think it's best to get the Timing Belt and Water pump replaced as preventive maintenance. Looking at the recent threads around this same issue

https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/techn...oda-india.html (Skoda Superb 1.8 TSI - Engine failure (as appraised by Skoda India))

https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/techn...ml#post4946755 (My BMW 530d requires an engine rebuild)

I would most likely expedite this process.

Now here's the deal, I absolutely don't trust the VW Authorized service centers since one of them botched the clutch replacement on my car. The following link describes my nightmare experience.

https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/india...placement.html (PPS Motors Bangalore (VW Bangalore North) installs defective clutch and denies replacement!)

But then again, I think this is a job best left to people who know what they are doing.

I have searched around a bit and from what I could gather, I think FNGs like Carsmith near Agara lake and Bosch Service centers would be competent enough to get the job done but I need a second opinion.

Would love to get your inputs on this and make an informed decision. The car is in Bangalore

Re: 2012 Jetta TDI: Timing Belt and Water pump due for replacement. Where do I get it done?

I would say you have driven it a bit longer than ideal for getting this job done. specially if its been driven around in the city for a longer duration. My Jetta had a water pump leakage issue when it was at 25K km in its third year. It was done under warranty/ goodwill, just paid for the coolant. I have been always getting my car periodically maintained with Shaman in Mumbai. Never had any problems. If there is any issue they do sort it out without much hassle. Had a trusted SA, but your car is in Bangalore.
As regards the timing belt I got it done last year with them at approx 65k km. I was told they will do an inspection and let me know if the water pump needs replacing, but it was not required, they only changed the kit. If I remember correctly there was a tensioner kit along with the belt and one more component I think its the idler that went into it. Total cost was around 20k odd, including 2 litres of coolant. I'd say get an estimate from the A.S.S. and if its around that much stick with them. The labour charges are not so much, its mostly the parts and I always like to go with original parts.

I'd love to get it done from A.S.S. but the fact of the matter is, I no longer trust them with my car after the clutch replacement fiasco. I'll still get an estimate from VW Whitefield as one of their Service advisors seemed decent when I had gone to get some over the counter items from them. But given an option, I would gladly give my money to a deserving FNG instead.

Check out Bay6 Motorworks. They work on all types of cars. I really liked their attitude towards the work they do.

Re: Volkswagen Jetta : Test Drive & Review

Need some guidance.

I was looking at a 2014 HL DSG with 55k on the odo through a dealer in mumbai. I took it to VW ASC to get it checked & they suggested that the flywheel, timing belt, water pump, suspension require change plus a few misc. items total adding up to 1.5L
The dealer says these things don’t need change & has quoted 8.5L
While I know I should go for what the ASC is recommending but while driving I found the DSG to be smooth without any issues.

Kindly suggest.

The best thing to do is take it to an independent garage who specialises in Germans and get it checked. While I do agree these are failure points on the Jetta, I don't really think they can all go bad together.

Water pump leakage can easily be caught by opening the timing belt cover and checking it. Flywheel will make a very distinct noise, similar to two metals hitting each other at all rpms and cause vibrations. Suspension is something you would need to check by putting the car up on a lift and checking for play.

I would say don't trust either. Take it to a specialist garage and ask them to do a thorough inspection for a small fee.

I think the Service Advisor was pulling a fast one. Which VW Workshop you visited?

55k run car wont require a flywheel change unless it has been abused badly.

Timing Belt is to be changed at 8th year or 1.2 Lakh Kms whichever is earlier.

Water pump is changed when Coolant tank goes empty due to water pump failure. Common issue with 2.0 TDi. Just inspect Coolant tank. If its filled up, not required.

Suspension that you will need to drive and say.

What is there in Misc items?

Jetta is very good car. Basically Audi A4 in VW clothes at a fraction of price.

The only good SA there was Danish who has now left. The rest (apart from the denting guy who is a good person) are thugs who are only interested in fleecing you. Try getting it checked from the Shaman Group VW setup - I dont remember whether their Kalina workshop (that houses Honda and Audi) has VW too.

I send my car to VW Autobahn Turbhe for service since 2011. If you plan to send the car there, can let you know the SA, Workshop Manager and Workshop GM to get better service.

Not my forte. Browse around and ask other Jetta owners.
