Although not pertaining to a VW car, I recently had to claim insurance for my Civic at the Honda service center and thought I might be able to shed some light.

All you have to do is go to the service center, explain to them what happened and they will make you fill out a form specific to your insurance company (they have the templates of all insurance companies ready). In this form you will have to specify how the 'accident' happened. Once you have filled the form, you are done.

The insurance surveyors visit the service centers on a daily basis for undertaking survey of the new cars that come for insurance claims. If you are lucky the survey might happen the same day or else would most likely will happen the next day. Once the survey is done, VW will start work on your car.

Please don't get hassled by the process, these things happen.

What difference does it make if a car is discontinued, as long as it's not so old that part supply will be a problem? All the 3 cars I own are discontinued (well, the Sunny is on life support). The Jetta is a popular model worldwide and there is a good number of them on Indian roads too. You shouldn't have a problem with spares for the next couple of years.

I recently installed the same head unit in my Jetta. The only grouse is the missing navigation. I searched the web and it says we can enable google maps on carplay but we need to use NGXplay software after jailbreaking. I might try to do that on my older iphone and see if it works.

In such accidents the VW body shop will cut the damaged portion and not the entire side beam, and weld in a new one. You won't notice any difference after the job is done. Have seen something like this happen on team bhp itself.

I visited the VW bodyshop yesterday, their initial verdict was it can be fixed easily, and might cost upto 10k. At which point I made up my mind to not involve insurance and just pay for it, as the voluntary excess+NCB loss will be around 10k anyway.

Unfortunately, he then called an expert to confirm, and he said its hard to repair, as the side skirt is in 3 different horizontal layers vertically, and its hard to fix something as bent as this. He recommended a side skirt replacement, which on checking costs, would come for 60k. The complete side panel comes for 60k, they would then have to cut out the relevant part and replace it on my car.

I am not sure how much of this I should believe, but it did sound reasonable at that point. Now I will obviously try to use insurance, and bear the voluntary excess+NCB, though I was hoping for not such a big hole in my pocket.

Do I have any other option? Except living with the car as it is now?

As some of us mentioned earlier, they will need to cut out the part and weld the new one in. Be assured, you won't be able to tell once they are done. Do cross check that and be certain that the side is damaged beyond repair.

I'd say get it done and have a perfect car again, no point in living with it.

My uncle's 2014 Jetta Highline's roofliner is falling off.
It is held on by gum from what he said and at the cabin light and grab handle, it is hanging.

From what he checked at VW Calicut, they need to send it Cochin to get it replaced and quoted around 12k for the replacement.

Is there any place in Bangalore (apart from VW) where it can be fixed to original specs?

12k sounds reasonable. Why would you want to look outside VW?

Don't think it was parked in the sun a lot.

He said it started off as a bulge near the cabin light and then few areas started hanging.

He wasn't sure if 12k is the actual price since the car will be taken to VW Cochin and worked on there and he wasn't sure if they would do a good job. Also they can take it to some place outside VW and get it done and say it was done at VW Cochin.

I have the same situation with my Jetta. The car was standing in the sun this summer in Mumbai. Since I had to take my car to the workshop because of what I thought was a busted battery (third time in one year), I also took a quote for this. VW Automark in Mumbai quoted only 35000. I said thank you. I have to find someone outside.

The reason I went to the workshop was because the car wouldn't start. Turned out the issue was a busted relay, and not the battery. Not very expensive to fix, around Rs. 1000.

Got my 6th year service done as well.

Spot on. My refresh list includes bulbs, Bilstein suspension and some paint TLC. My car was already remapped with Pete's this year post the detune fiasco.

Question on the DRL though, powerbulbs don't stock the LED bulb and have a kit instead. Is that what you're referring to?

I finished a really long trip for the Dusshera weekend - (Blr-Lucknow-Blr) of around 4k kms and the car behaved impeccably. After leaving it idle for a day - when i tried starting it today morning - two warning lights came on. ESP (Yellow) & Steering Wheel (Red). Also - the Power Steering doesnt seem to be working as there is no hydraulic/electric assist when trying to turn the wheels. Everything else is working perfectly - no other error signs on the dash as well.

Planning to call VW RSA tomorrow morning first thing - thankfully the car is still in warranty (1 month left). Lets see what comes up.

Has anyone faced a similiar issue ?

Could be the steering angle sensor.

But is the PS is throwing a red light, the car may have to be towed.

Two possibilities:
- Rat bite
- Fuse blown/sensor failure

I'd recommend getting the car towed. Warranty will cover the latter, not the former. Good luck!

I want to replace the drl on my jetta, need to know whether the drl holder needs to be turned clockwise or counter clockwise. Also the angle of turn before the holder comes out. Thanks

Goddamn rats have chewed my wiring during the incessant rains in Bangalore. I think its the air mass flow wiring, not sure. But can bhpians please help me know what the wiring is and what is the damage I can be looking at. I don't want to be conned by the VW service center. There is also another wire they have chewed behind the headlights.

Too difficult to gauge damage. Better drive it to chennai and i know a fantastic mechanic who takes care of my Jetta. He can get this sorted out
