Re: Tata Safari Storme : Official Review

Got a chance to drive the Innova last week. We had hired an Innova for an outstation trip. Started at about 1.30 pm on Friday for the 720 km trip. 481 of this on the BLR-HYD highway, and then another 240 km on state highways in TS & KA. The driver was not able to contain his sleep, and I took over for the last 2+ hours. The vehicle has about 1.1L on the odo, of mostly Bangalore city usage.

Vehicle was steady at all times, though I found it kind of heavy. The steering was a little heavy too, and the clutch a tad hard. Not sure if it was the one-size up ( in dia) of the tyres that contributed to it, or because of it being a cab.

Overall, I think my Storme is a notch above this one.

Re: Tata Safari Storme : Official Review

After 4.5 years of the Storme, I may have to give it up and go for a lighter vehicle. Doctor's saying ..
This comes just as I took care of a few things like battery, timing belt, etc.

Fingers crossed. And I cant see anything else around that would pull me.

I have heard doctors advising for AT, or cars with better suspensions, or from 2-wheeler to 4-wheeler.
But, what's a doctor advise got to do with going for a lighter vehicle ?

Re: Tata Safari Storme : Official Review

Guys, I was just wondering if the Hexa Auto Tranny could be mated on the Safari Storme since they both share the same power train and chassis (X2 platform). I believe the ECU would have to be replaced with the Hexa's. Excluding the cost factor, would such a transplant be possible?

Re: Tata Safari Storme : Official Review

Bumped into a Storme owner today @ Malleshwaram. About 3 years old - it was the pre-varicor, / 5-gear model. Had 1.6 L on the odo, with one turbo replacement. He was running MRF Wanderers, and said he was happy with it.

what would be the reason for this plan ? If it is just the clutch operation, then you could check the auto-clutch.

Hey condor, been there - had to give up my bike because of this. Know the feeling.

If you planning to sell - let me know I am in the market for a long distance cruiser and the safari is a childhood dream.

Also, just asking why is the advice? If it is due to the clutch - there is auto clutch that you can consider. If steering - and I am saying this from memory - there is a way to increase assistance.

Yes, Clutch is one factor. However, the resale value hurts ! So trying to hold on to it.

Yes, the auto-clutch is one option.

How can the steering assistance be increased ?

Resale value. The Achilles heel of the Safari. Brilliant vehicle but let down by perception.

From what I remember it has something to do with the steering pump - the hydraulic pump. Try searching for adjustable pump for hydraulic assist.

@Prateek, it is a mechanism where you dont have to press clutch pedal yourself to change the gears.

Re: Tata Safari Storme : Official Review

Folks

My month old Storme's steering is squeaking while turning.
What could be it?

If its a non-issue, I will wait another 2 months and get it addressed during the 1st service. Unless absolutely necessary now, do not want take the Storme to the service center folks.

cheers

Where is the sound coming from? If it is from the cabin, it is most likely that a trim part is rubbing against the steering column or the horn ring is squeaking, both of which are an easy fix.

Has the steering effort increased or changed?

Sound is coming from inside the cabin. Like the one that comes from house door hinges ....sqeaking. Irritating for sure, but its not from any mechanical linkages. Most likely it is, as you mention, plastics/rubber rubbing against each other.

No change to steering effort.

cheers

Re: Tata Safari Storme : Official Review

My Michelin Latitude Cross are nearing EoL. One weak, with air escaping thru cracks. Another took a large metal bracket and cant be repaired. one more with cracks on the side-walls. The tyres are of early 2012 make, and I guess the 5 year life is as much as they can do. Tread wear has not been a problem, though. If not for the weakening, I could have used these for some more time - even 20k over the current 66k distance covered till now.
