Re: Tata Hexa : Official Review

Went to the Malik Cars showroom at Banjara Hills yesterday. No Hexa on display. The chap there was pretty clueless too about the vehicle.

Anybody from Hyderabad know where the Hexa is displayed and if test drives are being offered?

With Hexa out now, the obvious comparison which would crop up is with Aria with respect to price vs. features. How practical/economical is it to buy a new Aria and add on features which it is missing?

Re: Tata Hexa : Official Review

Sufficiently impressed with the car despite the warranty offered isn't upto what I expected. Wish they increased the normal warranty period instead of speculating a low price. Not too much to ask IMO.

What discourages me is that after OPECs signed up to cut crude production, global oil prices are set to rise sharply. Additionally, governments may "discourage" diesel SUV ownership by levying additional taxes, and going by the draconian way they demonitised currency even at the cost of slowing down the economy, I don't believe they'll hesitate to go just short of a witch-hunt against owners of large diesel SUV's.

Still, I'm 90% inclined to go ahead if the product is launched at a killer price.

From what I know, the car is nowhere displayed in Hyderabad and nor is the TD available. Maybe it would be available by the end of this week. Dealerships in other locations in India seems to be in a much better state in this regard.

My Perception is:
- Toyota requires less maintenance as compared to Tata even though priced higher.
- Toyota Clutch,Brakes,Suspension last much longer than Tata.
- Toyota cars exterior and interior will last longer than Tata.
Am I right on these points?

Since I can not compare Safari with Etios being from different segment so wanted to know from prospective owners who have Tata and Toyota cars of similar segment or type.

This is required as I am looking forward between Hexa or Crysta AT but just wanted to make sure my decision to be right. I had faced similar situation 6 years back when I had to choose between Safari and Scorpio but felt that was easy.
Hello roby_dk,

I am sure owning a Safari, might have cleared the perception of Safari Having high maintenance. I too was told (Sarcastically by one : Safari will be costlier than your girlfriend - Thankfully I didn't had any. I was in love with Safari, had to buy it at any cost). Six+ years of owning the Safari & only cost I incurred was its routine services + A clutch assembly overhaul. I hope its the same for you as well.
My second car (is also) Tata is "Declared - Dead on Arrival' -- Aria - Pride. One & a half years of owning, no issues till date. Touchwood.

I guess Tata has (Slowly but Surely) learned from its past mistakes. The reviews almost prove that. Unless they prove me wrong by Hexa's pricings & cheap interiors again.
Looking at the reviews I am hoping that All the issues are well addressed & covered in Hexa. Importing technology from Jaguar & RR, will definitely help them improve. Tiago is an example.

As far as clutch is concerned, My clutch gave up at 62000, thanks to my driving style. Safari of a friend of mine's has clocked 1,20,000 & its clutch is still going great. NOM- Not giving a gyan, but can be issues with driving style(I had that & now learned). Suspensions are still going great.

I have taken Four Years Gold AMC for Aria. What I would suggest is : If Going for Hexa & you have any doubts on Reliability or anything, Look out for these AMC Plans. Will be a good relief.

Good luck & congratulations for your selection. Whatever it may be. Both are great.

Regards,
Saurabh

Thanks for the inputs.
Yes I don't feel Safari to be too high on maintenance but maybe I was not as lucky as you as I had to bear both(GF + Car) cost at the same time.

I feel Tata has improved a lot on its service quality. I can make out that easily as I went to TASS regularly in last few years.

I replaced my clutch around 75k and going good on 135k. Suspension done twice but sorry don't remember the exact kms.

I am looking out for AT car this time so that my wife can also drive it comfortably and Hexa seems to be a strong contender.

Although I am not a big fan of the looks of Hexa like Safari but I don't think Tata will be deploying AT and similar features in Storme soon.

Now coming on to Hexa or Crysta if I have to consider based on sheer looks than Hexa is already a winner. For me Crysta will always remain as the best cabbie in India but family and friends vouch a lot on it.

It is not displayed but available to see in Sanatnagar, There are two variants available to see. (six and seven seater ones).

They are not giving for test drive, but you are free to explore. The blue one is amazing and looks cool.

- A Belgaum dealership has received the Hexa display car 3 days back.

- TDs have commenced at Nagpur, Maharashtra, as well.

- TD cars have arrived at Marina Motors, Calicut, Kerala. TDs should start shortly from that location.

- TD cars will be reaching Shankar Motors, Bhagalpur & Purnea, Bihar, by the end of this week.

- An MT 4x4 has reached Tata's Ranchi dealership.

- The Hexa is on display at the South City Mall at Kolkata, AlphaOne at Ahmedabad and Amanora Mall, Hadapsar right now. Not sure how long they will be staying there.

Today I saw a Tata hexa test mule near Avinashi. I was coming back to Bangalore from Tirupur. Wasn't able to click photos as I was driving and the car took an u turn before a toll. Is Tata still testing the hexa? On the other hand the test mule looked awesome and the car commanded its appearance on the highways!!

Just took a test drive of the XTA from Concorde motors here in Prabhadevi, Mumbai. At first the rep called me to tell me the car was available and I could visit the showroom for a TD.

It's a working day hence asked him to bring the car to IFC tower, to which he said the car isn't registered and I was like then how is the test drive possible!

Completly frustrated I just said I'm not interested and will check over the weekend. I then wrote an SMS to him about how they expect to get prospective customers to put their money down with this attitude. He later replied he took his supervisors permission and will be able to come here.

Phew, I'm happy they atleast listened!

Drove the car after having driven the XT 4x4 2weeks back and found the gearbox to be pretty slick, as many have already reported. But I found it very disengaged, maybe as I come from a manual transmission.

I also found that the manual gearbox although requires work, makes the car move faster. This one has a linear power delivery.

I liked the manual version better and considering all other safety features as well.

Just waiting for the prices to decide.

Cheers
