Re: Jeep Compass : Official Review

Recently Kannada Film Star Sudeep gifted a Jeep Compass to his relative. Given that Jeep guys claim they do not have the culture of Cake etc, I am surprised they made it part of their culture for a Film star

Here is a brief video of the Jeep Delivery given to Sudeep:

Unlike other cars that have been launched in the recent past, the Compass seems to have taken quite a liking among celebrities. But I just hope that the politicians and the land mafia keeps out.

I remember that the crowd at the St Marks road showroom, when I went there for a test drive, was one of the reasons why I decided against the XUV 500. Hope they find the Compass too small for their 'size'.

Too late :-)! I am already aware of a couple of such people in my neighborhood, one has a red and the other the black!

Have test driven Compass yesterday. Wow, it is AMAZING! Felt like a perfect upgrade from my Vento

2018 LIMITED (O) 4*4 - 27.69/-Lacs
2018 LIMITED 4*4 - 26.78/-Lacs

2017 LIMITED 4*4 - 24.57/-Lacs (Only in Silver & White)

Heard there are close to 80 vehicles in stock in Pune plant.

If I were in the same boat, I would have picked up the 2017 Model given the price difference. The Compass looks good in all its colors. Would like to know which one you going for (2017 vs 2018), also the reason.

In the same boat and leaning towards the 2017 made. The price difference is stark for possible a 3-4 months 'older' car with same specs. My color preference was anyways minimal grey/Silver The OTR in gurgaon will come around 22.5L.

Do share what did you decide!

It would be 2017 LIMITED 4x4 in White. Would love to have "Hydro Blue" but have to sacrifice on color though.
Straight cut of 2L is lip smacking. Got to know, most of them are Oct-17 Mfd. If booked, car would be delivered in a week with booking amount of 50K.

Good choice, use it for a year or two and spend a lakh on wrapping the Compass to your favourite colour. Congratulations.

This is truly ridiculous pricing. In the US, the Compass costs about 30000$ MSRP, and 4runner 4x4 is about 45,000$ for similar kit

4runner == Toyota fortuner

Now Compass pricing for Trailhawk will be even higher.
Fortuner and Endeavor will give you more room, a proper 4x4 system, ability to lift with ease, bigger tires....

But then these are the same guys who thought a Grand Cherokee for 1 crore is decent pricing.
Now I am not comparing "absolute pricing" of the vehicle, but relative class pricing. Compass/Cherokee etc., are a segment lower than the bigger SUVs like 4runner, but not so in India

We pay an insane and ridiculous amount of tax here which is why cars cost so much more. Let me quote exact numbers from my invoice (Compass diesel 4x2 limited).

Price Rs. 12,98,041
IGST (28%) Rs. 3,63,451
GST Cess (20%) Rs. 2,59,608
Total Ex Showroom price Rs. 19,21,100

Now add road tax which could be anything from 1 to 3.5 lacs depending on where you live!

So if you were buying this car in lets say Bangalore..both, the government and FCA will get around 13 lacs each! OBSCENE

Actors dont buy, these are just PR exercises where the car is gifted to them and in return they visit the showroom for a photo op. They do not visit showrooms for free, when they actually buy a car with their own money, the car is delivered to them at home.

You save nothing on road tax because tax has to be paid on the un-discounted price.

If you buy a Compass AWD and intend to rough it out, swap these for all-terrains (Michelin LTX A/T, Yokohama Geolandar etc.)
I searched around for AT tyres in the size 226/60 R17, but couldn't find any. Did anybody upgrade to AT tyres? What are the options available? If not the stock size, what other sizes can see you through without a significant change in profile?

Are you sure? Cos, that's not what the numbers quoted in my booking form says.

There are many options available in the 225 /65 R17 size which is an upsize from the existing 225/60 R 17 but I believe it does fit without any rubbing anywhere. Some users on the global Jeep Compass forum have moved to this size and have not reported any issues. In this size the I would probably go for Michelin Latitude Tour HP. The Yoko Geolandar ATs are also available in this size.

I'm sure there is no GST or tax holiday for fortuner. I am comparing pricing between cars, not commenting on the price per se. So the tax can be 15L 10% 20% 40% 50% or 100%. Its there for everyone, so it does not explain how this vehicle is worth within 90% of the pricing of a 4runner clone in India

It does not cost 90% of Fortuner. Fortuner 4x4 diesel MT costs ~38L OTR in Bengaluru. I do agree that the higher variants of Compass are highly overpriced, especially with the missing equipment.
