Re: Mahindra Thar : Official Review

So after a few tries, I finally figured out how I would pack luggage at the back of my new Thar 2020 for a weekend trip for a family of 4. Yes there isn't a lot of space but you still can manage. I did a Goa trip for 3 days and it worked well this way. There was space for one more Duffle bag but that would block your rear view and hence not recommended.

Avoid luggage that has hard/fixed dimensions (cabin bag 1/2/3 in your pic). Instead go for multiple soft bags (like duffle bag 1 in your pic). Avoid unusual shaped soft bags like duffle bag 2. You can pack a lot more luggage this way. You just have to pack luggage differently though - you could keep innerwear/sleepwear in one bag and normal/outdoor clothes in another bag, for example.

I got this idea from Thule website. Thule offers these soft bags as accessories since you can optimize the available space in sleek/narrow roof box.

This system works very well. Only fly in the ointment is that you have lug multiple bags into the resort/hotel room

Thar is not for the weak minded. You need to have Buddha level of patience (or a Minister friend) to get a taste of the vehicle. My booking was in November and as each day passes, I get more and more proud of my level of patience.

I think I will be able to achieve a lot more in life now if I continue to demonstrate this kind of patience. Thar - a good teacher indeed.

Re: Mahindra Thar : Official Review

As I am keen to install a winch, I was watching the official accessories video which showcases Bushranger Revo Winch as a genuine accessory.

But I am confused after reading the strange disclaimer.

Are we supposed to carry custom bumper and winch (so called genuine accessory) while off-roading and revert back to stock bumper after off-roading?
Why is it then called a genuine accessory if one can't install it on the vehicle?

This is quite crazy, which variant did you book?
I was told that the initial CPD for new bookings (Petrol HT Auto) are now less than 4 months from the date of booking. How that moves further is anybody's guess.

Well sir, then I need to learn a lot from you. Because the journey to wait just gets longer.

But I would like to know, are we two the only ones in this thread waiting since so long or is this the case with most of the people. If anybody could throw some light on this?

I’ve put down a booking for Diesel Automatic Hardtop, and as far as i know that’s the variant with the longest waiting period. The only reason I’ve been given to shift the delivery dates every now and then is the shortage of semi-conductor chips.
Although on the last call yesterday I was being offered the same variant in same specifications with the Petrol AT engine. The SA told me that can be arranged earlier if I give my nod.

That is because we probably chose the fateful (and the best) diesel auto variant. I have been offered the same spec in petrol as well. But I turned it down owing to the lower range and poor AFE.

Just to give you some peace, you are not alone. Iam on my 8th month of waiting for HT AT D Black. Now that I lost my interest and excitement of owning the new Thar, I have decided to stay away from the offers from the dealer in owning petrol versions in other colors. Even if I have to wait for another year, I will take only what I really wanted as per my actual booking. Thar has become a common sight on roads, and it definitely made a huge influence in losing my interest as compared to earlier. I will take it whenever it comes. As per the dealer here in Bangalore, I was 9th in the queue for my model back in July. Now I stand at 8.

Here’s my Petrol LX Manual getting ready for delivery

It was booked on August 10, 2021. I would consider myself lucky as I got the call within 4 weeks from booking.

I paid in total 15.21L which includes accessories worth 27K, Extended warranty for 4th & 5th year worth 20K, Insurance from Tata AIG for 53K, Incidental charges worth 4K.

Will be taking the delivery tomorrow.

This is extremely true, the sheer sight of seeing so many thar’s on the road does affect the peace of mind, but again atleast here in my city I don’t see a lot of diesel automatic’s so it kind of decreases the burn. But the wait surely has led to decline in intrest yet the somewhere the excitement to own one is always there. Hope to see your’s and a plenty of other ones on this thread super soon.

Re: Mahindra Thar : Official Review

Hi folks, Happy Sunday!

Took my new Thar out for a drive today with kids and they thoroughly enjoyed it. Especially, the convertible top. Must admit that M&M has really moved ahead from my Scorpio ownership experience many years back. The ride quality is decent and Thar does not toss you around.
