Slight correction. It will be 225/50 from 205/55.

No buddy, 225/50 R17 gives a deviation of 3.94% from stock size of 205/55 R16. But the deviation for 225/45 R17 is only 0.38%.
For Octavia I would prefer 225/45, but for Virtus (if the car is not lowered) 225/50 will work better from practicality / comfort perspective and also from a stance point of view.

But the speedo will have more error with 225/50, while 225/45 will barely have any.

Nothing but a smart way to reduce the ‘free 3rd service’. Same strategy is adopted by Kia. However, Hyundai car’s free service intervals were at 1k , 10k & 20k.

VW just had a free inspection at 7500 km for my GT TSI. Never had a free "service".

The SA told me that if you fit any tyre apart from the factory size then you would lose the warranty on suspension components.

Please avoid deviations over 2%.

While you may increase the ride height with the 225/50, not only will the suspension take a beating but you lose out on torque. This is especially pronounced when you start from a standstill and you would require to slip the clutch more to get moving. This is a complete no-no, if you want to minimise wear and tear on your DSG gearbox.

I can confirm that atleast the Slavia DSG is tuned in such a manner that it will completely engage 1st gear from standstill at about 4-5 kmph which is deliberately done to reduce wear and tear in crawling conditions.

As for 1.0 TC users, you will feel that point at which the engine continues to fight to keep moving while braking will be at a higher speed than usual.

Please go with the 225/45R17 to avoid the above issues. 0.38% is a very good compromise for the benefits it gives although suspension wear and tear will still be more since it has to handle a heavier tire.

Warranty is definitely a 'Goodbye' mainly for related components if you upsize to 17. For that matter even if you put the same wheels with wider tyres, VW can still void the warranty.

Those who opt to put a different rubber right out of the showroom on taking delivery. I mean how does it workout?
Do you receive full amount for the exchanged tyres(oem ones)

I guess, you've misinterpreted my query. We, enthusiasts are concerned about Engine, Gearbox, Chassis, suspension, safety etc., But the new generation are more bothered about the electronics and other gimmickry.

I was convincing my friend to go for GT, instead of Topline AT, but failed. 3 cylinder manual is fine, but AT may struggle when it is fully loaded. Even, if it pulls without much fuss, the dent will be on the mileage. It can also be a disaster, if not driven sedately.

Re: Volkswagen Virtus Review

Delighted to get my hands on my new Virtus GT! The car arrived at the dealership on Monday. Upon completing the PDI, made the payment on Monday evening.

By Tuesday late evening, the registration process was completed barring the arrival of the number plate. Tuesday being an auspicious day, my family decided to do the pooja and complete other formalities.

We didn’t get the car home on Tuesday as the registration process was completed late in the evening and number plate was supposed to be printed on Wednesday. Today the car is ready and we will be getting her home tomorrow.

While I’ll be doing a complete Team-BHP style initial impressions review, I thought of sharing couple of pictures with you all.

Hello Goosebumps!

Re: Volkswagen Virtus Review

We picked up our Virtus 1.0 AT on Sunday from the Kerala 'Mega' delivery event.

Some of the photos from the event. Overall, about the event - it was well organised, managed and the arrangement of the cars were well thought out. The programs did drag on for a bit, but well - the build-up was worth it when you get into the car and drive away.

Here are some pics of the event.

Will also, be penning down my ownership experience shortly once I get time to complete the write up

An important note to all future owners, the Users Manual does state that the recommended fuel is 95 RON. The first thing I did was fill her up with a healthy dose of XP95 from our nearby IOCL outlet

Thank you for the wishes. My car’s manufacturing is of May, probably one of the first batches. Hence, I got the 10 inch screen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. As for the change, your guess is as good as mine. No one is sure. But there’s high probability that VW would follow the Skoda path, maybe offering the bigger screen only on the GT. One thing is clear, VW would rather prefer to deliver the cars to customers with the smaller unit rather than to keep them waiting until the 10 inch unit’s supply smoothens out.
