Btb, which carburetor your 77 mark3 have?
Yes. Our Mark 2 circa 1974 and all subsequent petrol Ambys that we had, came with Solex Carbs. Till they went the Diesel Way with Isuzu etc.

Grand-dad' s landmaster circa 1960's came with SU - thats what my Dad used to say. I remember long talks that he and his pals used to have about the relative merits of Solex/ SU etc.

My dad sourced an SU for our Amby I remember because we believed at the time that it was more efficient than the Solex, so even through the 70's and 80's and even the 90's, I am sure that there were SU carbs floating around in many Ambys in the marketplace.

You can still see many ambassadors in the bordering villages of Trivandrum and Kanyakumari district.actually you will find most wayside workshops having at least 2-3 ambys being worked upon

Rajeev has got the dates right. It was indeed sometime around 1971 that the Solex replaced SU. Am again putting this information that SU stood for Skinners Union, England. This was a leather product company that made shoes mostly, and in 1904 diversified into making carburettors.
I have opened my Landmaster's SU carburettor many a time. It has many moving components including variable venturi controlled by a piston. It is called a sidedraught, constant depression type carburettor. There is a lot of brass both outside and inside.True to its name, there are around three leather washers/bellows within. But for the availability of spares, the carburettor is very simple in design and easy to work upon. Nevertheless, to a first timer it looks extremely complex in build, as compared to the other carburettors.

The SU carburettor

Re: Landmaster And Ambassador Picture Gallery

I'm posting some snaps of my land master. All the mechanical works are complete and I had decided to do the other jobs later only.
Please let me know if there's any original steering wheel for sale!.

Re: Landmaster And Ambassador Picture Gallery

The speedo needle is missing, what happened?
What exactly is that meter in between the two Smiths units indicate and is it from the Fiat 1100 D.
Hope the meter near the battery is for lube oil pressure.

Yes the blue meter is from a '65 Fiat 1100D, and I think indicates temperature.

Re: Landmaster And Ambassador Picture Gallery

Mr. Anjan,I wonder how you recogonized the car from the side views!.yes it is indeed from Nagpur and the same car. I will register the car in Kerala and the car will be no more having the same number as it has to be changed while re registering.I had mentioned before that a fellow Bhpian had helped me for this deal.

I think the meter in the middle is an extra fitting done by the previous owner. I have no clue about the meter in the engine room.I had not seen this car yet.The Speedometer needle were missing and the SU Carbs were leaking and luckily, I had got them all except the steering..

Fantastic spotting Dr. Anjan, you must be knowing all the Landy's in your region. Guess Dr. Anjan recognized the dashboard first and then made a ID of your car.
