Re: Landmaster And Ambassador Picture Gallery

Ambassadors from yester years still in daily use at Kolkata:

The WNF 4156 Mark 4 here, moving in the crowded traffic. It is fitted with the original, early Mark 4 bumpers. Note the holes of the rubber strip, that used to originally line the bumper's central portion all along its length. This was discontinued by HM as quality problems led it to wear off as is shown here.

The dark grey Mark 3 parked on the other side of the road (sorry for I could not click it properly)

Re: Landmaster And Ambassador Picture Gallery

For our Amby fans- a seemingly well-kept and very original mk2 Amby I spotted today. 'wonder what that shroud on the front grille is- maybe a cover for a fan?

Personally I like the colour combo! Owner appears to have good taste.

Re: Landmaster And Ambassador Picture Gallery

Hi Shyam,

This is my Amby, parked in front of our house. The shroud on the front grille is for the AC Fan. It had just returned from a 450KM trip.

Re: Landmaster And Ambassador Picture Gallery

Some pictures of Ambassadors from my trip to Kolkata just two days back.

Landmaster And Ambassador Picture Gallery-dscn0090.jpg

An old WBG-- Ambassador on the move. Sadly, there are many old Ambassadors in Kolkata, but the owners seem to prefer the newer looks sans originality. And this mess up, despite Kolkata being the best place on earth for old Ambassador spares.

Landmaster And Ambassador Picture Gallery-dscn0025.jpg

Freak Ambassador taxi from 2007 - not a classic, but just wanted to show that it does not have the quarter glass lever. The quarter glass is sealed.

Landmaster And Ambassador Picture Gallery-dscn0029.jpg

An old Ambassador in the office rush hour traffic.

- As is evident, the car is fitted with a Matador diesel power plant.

- The dash has been changed over to the Deluxe kind of the 1980's.

- The wheel rims are from the 1990's but painted in body colour.

- It is an excellent idea to have Classic or Vintage painted mandatorily on the number/ licence plate of the car, to distinguish it from the brat pack.

If you notice, its RHD. And will probably not pass a mandatory yearly fitness test or be able to maintain the min 60 kmph threshold on the highways. Sharjah allows registration of 'Classic' vehicles through the Sharjah Classic Cars Club - which permits the import and use of such vehicles if they fit into their definition of a 'classic'.

They have a separate number plate (brown) and have the word 'Classic' written prominently on it - as can be seen from this example.

Sounds similar to the system in Singapore for classic cars:

http://www.lta.gov.sg/content/ltaweb...-vehicles.html

Is there a restriction on driving the car for only a certain number of days in a year (as in SG) even in Sharjah?

To add to what Santhosh has put up.

Since June 2012, Dubai also allows classic car registration. The following categories are available

Quote from RTA
"These include Category A (cars manufactured between 1950 and 1980, can be driven on all roads, but not more than 10,000 kilometres a year); Category B (manufactured before 1950, all roads but not more than 5,000 kilometres a year; Category C (cannot be driven on highways); Category D (only driven during daytime); Category E (only driven on internal and service roads) and Category F (purely for display)."
Unquote:

Shyam, it answers your query also partially. I think Sharjah has similar time restriction as well

Certifiation is from Automotive Touring Club UAE (ATC) the govering/apex body of all Motor Sporting clubs in UAE.

The picture below shows the Ex Rashtrapathi Bhavan D 300 with the new Dubai Classic plate (not very clear) Sand Coloured with picture of the Dubai Fort (Riffa) in it. If you recall the earlier pictures I had posted of this car, it had standard Dubai plates. Now the car has been reregistered as a classic.

Once I am back in Dubai, I will try and get a better picture

Best Regards & Drive/Ride Safe
