Caution Caution

Sexy car must say but before everything else, please be careful with the following parts of Arun's car:
1. Side indicators
2. Wheel Hub-caps (remove them and store it at home, fix only on special events)
3. Fiat 1100D logo (need not remove but be careful not to leave your car unattended any where)
4.Bumpers (Get the Padmini bumpers n drive with them, remove the present ones for special occasion)
5.Grill (Please don't let any one touch it)

Lastly when restoring the car please don't throw away any junk, still if you wish to then TELL ME BEFORE YOU DO THAT
Nice Meter Console an meters Arun ! I have all black sporty looking Meters, would you like to EXCHANGE

We want to bring this car back to original condition, with a few tasteful additions to make it more of a pleasure to drive, and highly reliable. However, it does look like a largely original car, has the original grille, indicators, and 3 original hubcaps. I think the bootlid lock is a later addition, can anyone confirm? I also think the speedo and some stuff on the dash is not original.
Congrats to Arun from me!
He sure is lucky to get a reasonably original Delight! One can still find a few of them around, they are also quite easy to restore back to originality.
Lovely number too!
Speedo and flanking 2 guages on either side are original w.r.t this model. Karl has a similar model Delight in the same colour too, which also has these.
Dash guages are not original. Nor are the additional switches under the dash.
PS: I think I may have a pair of front-wing side-trims (OHH REE GEE NAL) to spare for arun, let me check!

Boot lid lock is original but the handle is after market i think
Wheel caps, never seen this design
You're right about the handle, it was a common aftermarket fitting. Only the push-button is original, bootlid is supposed to "pop" open on push of the button.
Steering wheel too is aftermarket padmini one.
The 3 FIAT marked hubcaps are original, they are the press-fit ones meant for padmini type rims that this model came with, but someone seems to have tried an artistic touch with reshaping them, thus creating the conical bulge at the centre.....or maybe they had been dented all around the centre by something while running. A pity nevertheless! A good one-time buffing may sort it out to some extent.
But I agree that if the car is used regularly, they should be stowed away safe at home, and used only for special occasions.
Also the side-indicators. Next to impossible to find replacements for these!

Wow, lovely car with a lot of originality. Congrats Arun, welcome to the Fiat family !!
The radiator lid position has flummoxed me too !
I echo Syham's opinion on most of the bits. The side indicators however, are quite easily avaliable in Mumbai. (as of now at least - you never know when they'll dry up - we too have a "trio gang" going berserk buying up Fiat parts . At the last count, chor bazaar dealers were looking for posh flats at Malabar Hill, out of the money they made from Fiat parts)
About removing and refitting the hubcaps however, my take is:
1) In my experience, frequently removing and refitting hubcaps damages their finish as well as that of the wheel rim.
2) Unless the car is used extensively and / or parked on the road, there aren't too many chances of the caps getting stolen / damaged.
3) Why use a classic Fiat extensively, in the first place ?
All in all, a great project. Can we have more pics of the interiors - seats, door panels, etc ?

Well, it was sidman's post that made me reckon it may be used semi-regularly atleast, although not extensively (read as a workhorse)

The Hindu

An article has appeared in today's "The Hindu" newspaper about our Fiat Club.
In the picture, the first car belongs to Kedar and the second one is mine.
