Fiat 1100 R or Rinnovata was a model of late 60s or early 70s.

Karl- Can you confirm the above.. And, were they produced in India in min numbers or only imported?

The 1100R was introduced in 66 I think, being produced only for 2 years or so. It was never produced in India, though many came into India as imports.

I have proposed 8th November 2009, Sunday for the Rally.
Founder members meeting this Sunday on 11th OCT '09.
Arun1100 please fix up a TIME and VENUE for the meeting to discuss about the upcoming RALLY.

Karthik1100 proposed Sunday evening. I dont mind lunch or evening meet. Just finalize the time. Lets finalize on the rally. To avoid distraction , I suggest not to get our Fiats (I know its difficult). Most of the times, we get absorbed by the cars and talk less about forthcoming events.

I was in a mad hunt to find old Fiat pics of rallies. Here is a nostalgic rally thread (yesteryear rallys where Fiats and Amby’s dominated). I really loved it a lot. Full credit to my present Rally friend Raghuram (a well know K1000 Esteem driver), also a TBHPian (raghuram.cg), who in an instant got me acquainted with this thread. I personally suggest you to sit back, relax and real this thread. No point reading it in a hurry.

Information On Fiat 1100.

Behram Sir,
Can you please answer these questions.. The Information needed is for "Normal" people to know more about Fiats and their racing history. This Information will be displayed in an upcoming event for public to read.

1. What is the Advantage of FR Layout of Fiat 1100? We do not see in modern day’s passenger car other than Mercedes, BMW and Some High performance Sports cars. Why?

2. Does Fiat 1100 have Monocoque (Unibody Chassis)? What is the Advantage of this kind of Chassis? We do not see in modern day’s passenger car other than Some High performance Sports cars. Why?

3. What Kind of Carburettor did Fiat 1100 generally have? What is the advantage of this kind of carburettor over modern days Fuel Injectors?

4. Fiat 1100 cars doesn’t have Power Steering but still it feels lighter than many modern days car with power steering, why?

5. What kind of Suspension system Fiat 1100 has? This doesn’t let you feel the bumps and pits, where as in modern passenger cars you can easily hit the car roof with your head.

6. Fiat 1100 D Cars look heavy but weighs Just 895kgs with 1089cc, No other passenger cars in the same segment weighs below 1050kgs. What is the Advantage being lighter?

7. Most of the Fiat 1100 series cars came with Column Shift Gear. Are there any advantages over Floor Shifter?

8. Most of the Modern Day’s passenger car claims, they are the best in fuel efficiency by having MPFI, Micro Processors, sensors, advanced engine technology, fully aluminum engine block, though they are getting on average fuel efficiency of 13-15kmpl in city and 17-21kmpl in highway, but Fiat 1100 series has all old technology but still it manages to give 11-14kmpl in city and 14-19kmpl in highway. What is the Reason Behind it?

9. Cost of ownership is less, service is cheaper, and parts are also cheaper Comparing to any modern car. Why manufacturers of the car stopped producing it?

10. We have heard fiat 1100 cars are always safer than any modern passenger car in India. Rate of death and serious injuries due to road accidents are less in fiat 1100 series. Is this True?? If true, what made this car so safer than other modern cars?

11. Sir, Please give the details of engine specs used by you in cars like 43 and 3433 during rallying.

12. I have read in many posts by you that you tried Really Hard to find a fault in the design of Fiat 1100 parts but found none. Some points on this too please.

Thanks,
Fiat 1100 Club-Bangalore Team

Dear Arun - yesterday the photographs did not download for some odd reason so I am sending again. I'll try and answer all your questions during the course of the day today.

Photograph no 1 is MMF3433 in 1982 with twin Solex carburettor setup. I still have the inlet manifold with me at home. Photograph no 2 is MMY43 in 1989 with piper camshaft and fully reinforced chassis / suspension (the same camshaft is now in my super select MRY3112). Photograph no 3 is MMY43 in 1989 on the way from Delhi to Mumbai after the Himalayan Rally trip upto Simla and Narkhanda via the dreaded Jalori pass. Your good friend Cyrus43 was one and a half years old and he was in the car from Delhi to Mumbai. This photograph is taken near Nasik. Photograph no 4 is MMF3433 with me in it after winning the MASA rally in 1984. The building in the background is the main building of The Premier Automobiles Ltd where I used to work as an engineer in R&D at that time.

I sold MMY43 in 1993. I am still missing it.

Best regards,

Behram Dhabhar

1970 1100d

Looks like you might have a new member, guys! Today, my Lambrettful brother, Arun (not Arun1100) bought his first car, a 1970 Fiat 1100D! Arun is a member here, but has been too busy to post, and requested me to put up the pics on his behalf, so we could get some insights from the Fiat Gurus! We want to bring this car back to original condition, with a few tasteful additions to make it more of a pleasure to drive, and highly reliable. No major mods here. Neither of us is very knowledgeable about cars, as our main passion was classic scooters. However, it does look like a largely original car, has the original grille, indicators, and 3 original hubcaps. I think the bootlid lock is a later addition, can anyone confirm? I also think the speedo and some stuff on the dash is not original. So here are some pics for the gurus....do let us know what is messed up / unoriginal on this car. If you want more pics, let me know which parts need to be photographed, and I'll provide you with more.
