Did you mean cheap ‘Tarmac’? Forma seems to have a good reputation, especially the Forma adventure boots.

Your thoughts on Gaerne G.Adventure aquatech boots? Although I am kind of sceptical about Gaerne boots after reading about it in this thread where someone had to send them back to the store which will be send back to Italy for repair. Unlike Klim where the user just had to send a picture with a particular cut, and they received new boots.

Also, which boot you used for your NE odyssey?

Tarmac wasn't worth a conversation, hence i didnt spell it out.

Budget formas are bad, look back a few pages for axe 77's experience

Budget gaerne like that aqua tech are not stiff enough. A friend got them and wasn't entirely pleased. Very floppy for a new boot. Stiffness is always good.

I used a TCX, a model not available anymore. But it established my belief in TCX well enough that after 7 years and over a 100k in those, i got the TCX again albeit from royal Enfield.

Re: The Riding Gear thread

I found a link to the RE TCX boots. The site claims in stock. I have bought from this site before so the link is genuine.

Only the mid rise are in stock but I have these boots and I love them to bits. Very comfy and great protection.

Many years ago, some LS2 jackets were on sale in India. Now, I see that there are some jackets listed on the company website but I havent heard of anyone in the motorcycling community seeing the products in person, much less using a LS2 jacket.

When there are many other proven jackets in the market, its hard to recommend unknown products like the LS2 jackets.

Picked this up from a Royal Enfield store. I strongly recommend that you check out the jackets in the store instead of buying it online.

I got myself a XXL size for this Explorer V3 and in another style the XL fit very comfortably.

This jacket costs Rs 8950.
The showroom gave a small bag as a gift with it.

The jacket has a removable liner and a raincoat tucked inside a concealed rear pouch.

Its stiff and I hope the material will soften with use.
Currently the weather is quite pleasant and so wearing without liner in city traffic comfortable.

Re: The Riding Gear thread

The Royal Enfield gears are mostly good brands with just a RE rebranding on top. This looks no different, good choice Immy! Are those pockets on the side or provision to store liners sticking out. Close up of the jacket would be nice to have.

There are a lot of pockets but this is a heavy jacket. I don't think it makes sense to put anything except maybe the mobile phone in them as it will make the already heavy jacket more heavy.

The Raincoat sits inside this pocket in the back.

Re: The Riding Gear thread

It's the armour that makes it heavy, when I weighed my jacket armour was same weight as the whole jacket itself lol.

Anyone aware of the details of the external material? I'm asking more from abrasion resistance perspective.

Also, can any one using the Drymaster pants comment on the waterproofing?

On similar note does anybody know where to get EN17092-3: 2020 AA/AAA certified jackets/pants.

Right now I have RE Streetwind V2 jacket with D3O Level 2 armour and Scala Riding pants for commutes/short rides. I want to get something more safe for touring purposes.

RE right now only has class A certified jackets and almost none of the other Indian sites mention class ratings.

https://www.zeusmotorcyclegear.com/p...t-white-black/

There is this ZUES brand which seem to have a couple of options and seem to be very VFM. Do tell about the experience incase somebody has used them.

The KLIM jackets and pants are AA rated (induction, induction pro, baja, badlands, etc.) The ones meant for offroad will not have integral armour and will be only B rated.

The Klim Badlands pro A3 are AAA rated (my guess these are the only AAA rated gear that is not in one piece. Based on limited info available on web, I can be wrong). The info for these ratings are readily available in the Klim website.

Klim is represented by Bigbadbikes in India.

Some Dainese (not all) jackets are CE AA rated. Information for the rating is not available on the Dainese website. However, if you check out the gear in store, you will see the CE certification label on the gear. Dainese should be available with Tusker group in Bangalore. Hopefully other forum members who have visited can shed more light about the Tusker group and Dainese availability.

Macna that are available in India are mostly A rated. Again you need to visit the store to verify the CE rating. Powersports (erstwhile Spartan Pro Gear) has them.

I will have a look at these and see what will fit best as per my needs.

Even I was quite surprised. I will probably go and check a couple of dealers to check out the jackets quality. But it is good to see an Indian brand focusing on CE certification.

The Explorer V3 is famous (infamous?) for having sleeves that are really long, to the extent that the elbow armour does sit a bit low. From the pictures that you shared, it does appear that the sleeves are really long for your torso, as well. Hopefully the armour sits perfectly.

As for the weight, the Explorer V3 is lighter than some of the proper touring jackets from the Indian competition. Those are really heavy!

shyamg28, I was doing some research on waterproof jackets recently and from what I could gather, what you gain with in built waterproofing, you will lose in breathability and comfort. I have an A* jacket which is waterproof and my experience with it, does match what I found on the internet. Unless you are keeping a jacket only for wet weather riding, my suggestion is to get a regular textile jacket with enough pockets (like the Royal Enfield Nirvik / Revit Sand 4 H20) and use the rain liner (internal or external) when it rains.

There arent all that many AA certified jackets or pants in India. Klim does have some solid options. However, after extensively watching videos of almost all of Klim's jacket offerings, Im not convinced that I would be happy with their jackets, in our Indian conditions. Most of their products have fixed mesh sections, which cant be covered / zipped up.

Ive gotten so used to riding in a conventional textile jacket in which you can control the air flow from all sides (Royal Enfield Khardung La jacket, bought in June 2018 and used for tens of thousands of kilometers), that I have to follow the same form factor when I buy an upgrade, which preferrably has AA / AAA safety certification. My suggestion is to also consider the excellent Revit Sand 4 H20 jacket which is imported by High Note Performance. Yes, it is frightfully expensive but it does appear to be worth every rupee.

On a more reasonable budget, the Khardung La V2 and Nirvik touring jackets from Royal Enfield, are A certified and appear to be tremendous value and safety for money.

Re: The Riding Gear thread

Bought myself a pair of RE Intrepid in L size. Totally unplanned purchase. I was checking out a new Shoppers stop store in Jaipur. Surprised to see a section dedicated to Royal Enfield apparel and some riding gear as well.

I was missing a warm gloves in my cupboard for those winter rides to office.

Felt that the gloves are warm and cosy. Quality seems to be good for the price .

Re: The Riding Gear thread

Was always interested in acquiring a leather jacket, but the good leather ones are prohibitively expensive and the cheaper ones have minimal airflow and are uncomfortable to wear here down South. Found out couple of weeks back that Rynox is coming out with special edition leather mesh jackets, and got one last week for 17K.

Liberal amount of mesh on the front, and a subtle rynox branding.
The Riding Gear thread-whatsapp-image-20221205-12.31.301.jpg

Leather accordion pleats on the back, and one more subtle rynox branding.
The Riding Gear thread-765786.jpg

Knox level 2 back protector. Perforated leather and mesh on the front.
The Riding Gear thread-465646468676.jpg

Trident branding on the forearm.
The Riding Gear thread-3.jpg

Rynox 10 years shoulder patch on the left side, and a close up of the perforated leather.
The Riding Gear thread-544.jpg

Rynox logo on the right shoulder.
The Riding Gear thread-64564563.jpg

YKK zipper and a zip puller with Trident logo.
The Riding Gear thread-456456646.jpg

It has Knox level 2 protectors on the back, shoulders and elbows, and Powertector level 2 protectors for the chest. The fit and finish is excellent. Air flow is similar to my textile mesh jacket but weighs a little more though. Overall comfort is pretty good. Pretty happy with the purchase.
