Mysore-Goa

Please help me with the current road conditions from Mysore to Goa.
1. Via Shimoga - Honnavar- karwar
2. Via Hariyur - Chithradurga - Davangare

My route options are completely based on GM. If any better routes are there please advice me that too.

Mysore-Srirangapatna-Nagamangala-Neligere-Huliyar-Hiriyur-Hubli-Belgaum-Chorla-Mapusa

That should be the best option, as per what I think.

I drove on Pandavpura - Neligere (SH17 to NH48) in Sep. It was awesome. Though there are humps around villages, but nothing like 2-lane road and minimal traffic. I have not gone from Neligere to Hiriyur, but I don't think these sections get anyway effected by rains.

Good day people,
One input I would like to add to the thread,
While travelling on NH4 on the 7th nov around 1600, we came across a blockade on the NH4 near sankeshwar. Nothing was getting past. No private vehicles, commercial vehicles.. nothing. I speak kannada as my mother tongue, still I could not get through. Had to go through, hukkeri, ghataprabha, gokak and through some internal roads which I could not track, joined the NH4 at belgaum.
Please try and look online for local news before you leave. Being able to speak kannada, I found out that the blockade was organised by local farmers as a protest towards lowering prices of sugarcane.
Just sharing my experience. Other people might have had different ones.

Route Query: Bangalore to Hogenekkal

I am planning to ride to hogenekkal in the last week of December. Wish to take the forest route, that is,
Bangalore > hosur > anchetty> hogenekkal.
Is this route good for riding?
PS: mods please merge this thread if such a thread already exists.

I hope by riding, you mean a bike. Roads are good. Just about 4-5km would be broken. But its a road worth enjoying.

Solo ride: Route and Road Condition advice

Hey guys! I am planning to ride solo sometime at the end of this month/year on my KTM Duke. I have ridden solo before but not very long distances. Solo rides have been restricted to radii of 300 km and in well known and inhabited roads!

Now I want to ride in an unknown road (to me) for some adventure and more importantly some much needed rejuvenation. I am on a long leave from work (including the new year's day) and would want to make good use of it.

I have always wanted to ride in Charmadi/Shiradi as I have always been told that they are dangerous and challenging - Both in terms of skills required and the kind of traffic/road conditions involved. Also, I have ridden to quite a few places in Kerala/TN with friends but haven't ridden to places in North Karnataka. Hence the choice to ride towards Mangalore. Also I have driven before to Malnad and I'm sure it's quite pleasurable at this time of the year to ride to Malnad.

I have tentatively decided on this route: http://goo.gl/maps/BLUUL

Itinerary:
Day 1: Bangalore - Manipal via Shiradi/Charmadi (Yet to be decided)
Day 2: Manipal - Murudeshwar (Spend time at the beach and temple)
Day 3: Murudeshwar - Sagara (Spend time at Jog falls)
Day 4: Sagara - Chikmagalur
Day 5: Chikmagalur to Bangalore.

Now out of the 4 places where I have decided to stay (Manipal, Murudeshwar, Sagara and Chikmagalur), I have no idea where to stay in 3! In Murudeshwar, I am aware of the RN Shetty hotel which faces the sea as I went there as a kid. Please suggest and help!

Mods - I do understand that I might find most of the information that I require if I run through the forum with patience. But most of it is scattered across and also, apart from the road conditions, I am also open to alter my itinerary if it helps better my journey!

Re: The mega "Road Updates" thread

The first 15 Kms of the stretch after Kundapur is not in a good condition. After that the road is very good. Watch out for unmarked speed breakers after entering Goa. The road between Udupi to Kundapur leaves a lot to be desired. When will you be riding? I hope to ride to IBW too.

Hope you can manage high traffic density in your first stretch (Trichur-Calicut-Mangalore). Beyond Kundapur as @slicvic said roads till Hemmady may not be all that great. And the conditions slowly tend to improve beyond Honnavar. But, do note, its twisties all the way.

Can you help clarify this part ? Because I drove on this stretch last week, and I was OK. They are 4-laning this section and there are quite many diversions. But on the whole its not that bad. Of course its not like what we experience on a completed 4-lane.

Roads from Davengere to Hampi and Badami

I intend to drive down from Mumbai to Davengere on 20th. I would like to know the condition of roads from Davengere to Hampi via Tungabhadra Dam and Hampi to Badami.

Which route should I take from Badami to Kohlapur?

Any recommendation for stay at Hampi and Badami?

Thanks

Re: Roads from Davengere to Hampi and Badami

We visited Badami a couple of months ago - roads are quite good.

You could stay at Vijayashree in Hampi. Krishna Heritage is a good place to stay in Badami.

- Do you intend to first go to Davanagere and then drive back Hampi/Badami?
- If yes, ask locals about how is the road to Jagallur. Thats the fastest way to hit NH13 from Davanagere. And you take that road from there on to Hospet.
- Places to stay for Hampi: Royal Orchid and Malligi in Hospet.
- From Hospet you continue on NH13 to Kushtagi to hit Badami
- Badami-Kolhapur: Badami-Bagalkot-Lokapur-Yargatti-Gokak-Sankeshwar.

At Sankeshwar you are latch on to 4-lane.

Re: Roads from Davengere to Hampi and Badami

Did Mangalore - Bellary via Hospet last year. The stretch from Hospet-Hampi-Bellary is littered with speed humps. The kinds where you get 4-5 small humps in succession. Be careful while driving at night. You can average only 35-40 kmph on this stretch.
