Yes the 9pm-6am closure is still effective, though discussions have begun in the political circles about changing that on the kerala side as the private buses reach the forest check posts on either side around this time,so the private bus lobby is at it again
In fact even Bandipur-Gudalor-Nilambur is very good with some mild bad stretches (~5-6Km).

Siva,
That is sad. The current weather is pretty rocky. Huge temperature variations in the same day !
Rain lashes in the evening and during the day its an oven.

Yes, one needs to take care of kids in these times.

@Ampere. I think I made a good decision of not further pursuing other places to stay. The fluctuating climate in Ooty would have defenitely affected my kid.

I was thinking of going in May. How is the weather? Is it too bad to go?

@Ampere.I am not the best person here to provide the climatic conditions. But its for sure that with the climatic fluctuations and experiences from my previous visits to Ooty, in May it would remain more or less the same as now with temp soaring slighly north + the unexpected rains.

More than the weather I would be more concerned on the flocking people.

In brief, too much crowd + school summer holidays + flower show attraction = As messy it can get ! Else you have to shift your coordinates to Coonor or Kotagiri which would be less crowded.

Incidentally am just about finalising my plan for Valparai, hoping that its not as mad as Ooty / Coonoor. Add to it am planning to stay in one of the estate bungalows so hopefully can spend some time peacefully.

I had Valparai on my list for the last three months after seeing many TLs. It also got strengthened after seeing Laluks. Will do this in winter months after rains, when the place is all emerald !

I want to go on a holiday on May8th. I am keen on Ooty but do not want to be in a crowd. Is ooty crowded now?

My next choice is Coorg.

It would be crowded. Still worth it for the temperature and pleasant climate.

a quick question in this thread since its already talking about ooty. Planning to leave bangalore by 2pm so would be reaching the bandipur mudhumalai masinagudi section somewhere in twilight condition. just wanted to check if forest dept allows vehicles to travel during this time?
