re: Conoor & Ooty : Route Queries

Im planning to visit Ooty in next 2 weeks. This time I want to book cottage with nice view.

My budget is max 2100/-

I checked Sabol holidays, sherlock. They are all expensive.

Not sure how is "Hotel Lake View".

Please help me and my wife celebrate our 3rd anniversary in best way!

Thanks.

Coonoor 22 to 24 Apr

Just returned from a two day trip to Coonoor and Wellington. Weather was awesome with mist playing hide and seek. drive was good, went up 36 hairpins at 7 pm and came back the other longer way, road conditions are good all the way to Bangy. Let the snaps speak.

re: Conoor & Ooty : Route Queries

After lots of searching Im thinking of booking for May 2nd week:

Delightz Inn

It costing about 2000/- for Cottage. It is located at high altitude with good view.

Service, etc means to be fair.

Anyone been to this one?

re: Conoor & Ooty : Route Queries

I was looking for more info on route via Satyamangalam.

Is this route better than typical route Blore -> Ooty via Masinagudi? How scenic is this route? Any road conditions?

Im starting on Monday morning from Blore. Quick reply would be great!

I think it will be better for you to turn off from Chamrajnagar towards Gundlupet instead of going through Sathy which is a long route where you climb down towards Sathy and back up to Nilgiris. This road is said to be decent based on some other comments in this forum. See the link below.

Sathyamangalam-Mettupalayam-Ooty route would be good. From Mettupalayam, you can take Kothagiri-Ooty route instead of Coonor-Ooty. Kothagiri route would have less traffic than the usual route.

But, why do you want to do Ooty thru Sathyamangalam? I believe Masinagudi route would be the shortest for you.

Exactly. Why do you want to take this roundabout?
Any specific reasons?

It is worth trying, if you are bored with the standard route, but w/o high expectations. Road conditions are very good till Chamarajanagar and from TN border onwards. The scenery would be that of a typical country side till you enter forests about 25kms from Chamarajanagar. Since it has rained, it would be fairly green and with less traffic. Dhimbam ghats (about 30+ hairpin bends) should be enjoyable to descend. Traffic would be high in Coimbatore-Ooty sector and very high b/w Coonoor and Ooty.

Do note that there are absolutely no eateries except the typical town hotels.

Due to better roads, many TBHPians are recommending a variant of your route for both Ooty and Waynad:

Bangalore-Kanakapura-Malavalli-Kollegala-Chamarajanagara-Gundlupete-Masinagudi-Ooty.

This would avoid the boring and traffic-ridden Mys-Blr highway.

After going through multiple threads, I found the above route to be best alternative. Due to less traffic and green landscape throughout it will be enjoyable. However as you guys mentioned, hotel, petrol bunk will be issue.

However, one of my collegue recommended route via satya's as there is almost no traffic till Satyamangalam. Also has very good views with chance of spotting some wild animals. Hence comes this question on teambhp forum

re: Conoor & Ooty : Route Queries

You can try the NH209/Gundlupet combo. It also solves your hotel problem in part.
At Gundlupet, you have a CCD (but you need towards Nanjangud for about 2-3km) and JLR Pugmarks at Bandipur.

You can spot animals even at Bandipur. The road via Satyamangalam would 80-100km more. Would suggest take the Chamrajnagar-Gundlupet option.

re: Conoor & Ooty : Route Queries

Traveling to Ooty on the last week of July. We have to go via tiruppur.
The route suggested by Google Maps is - BLR (take NH7)-> Salem -> (take right and move on NH 47) Kumarapalayam -> Chengapalli -> (Take left and move on SH 81) -> Utthukuli -> (Take Left and move on Uthukuli Road) -> Tiruppur -> Move on SH19 -> Take left on NH47 -> Mettupalayam Privu -> Take left and move on SH80 -> Merges to SH 165 and continue on the same till Annur -> Move on SH 80 -> Metthupalayam -> NH67 -> Ooty.
Total Distance mentioned in Google Maps 429 KM.
Few queries:
a) Is there any better route for BLR-> Tiruppur-> Ooty
b) Any idea how's the road conditon?
d) Is it do-able within 10 hours with 2 hours break in Tiruppur?

Do not divert from NH-47 at the mentioned point. Instead, continue further upto Perumanallur (around 12 kms after the existing 4L road ends) and then take left from where Tiruppur would be around 10 kms.

From Tiruppur to Annur, you may cross NH-47 either at Avinashi or Karuthampatti. I believe it is better avoid any overlap of your route with NH-47 on this stretch. Beyond Annur, I guess Siruvani->Kotagiri->Ooty route would be better. Would highly recommend to check with local experts about this ghat section route during the monsoons.
