I found many locals use their two-wheelers on that horrible stretch, perhaps their daily ride. I would have to ride my Thunderbird 500 not with comfort, but with some difficulty on that section; so in nutshell, riding may not be comfortable, but possible!

Hi Ranjith,Does the ORR directly connect to Nagpur road now? I remember a couple of years ago, this part was not fully constructed.I will be driving from Chennai to Nagpur (via Ongole,Addanki, LB Nagar) around Diwali time.Which will be the best option to reach the ORR? Should I go through Mehdipatnam and take the ORR at Gachibowli or is there a better option?
Thanks

No, the ORR section between NH9(VJA side) and NH7(Nagpur side) is still not complete as the section between Warrangal Highway and Shamirpet road is still not complete.

Best is to go via LB Nagar-Uppal-Tarnaka-NFC-ECIL X Roads-AS Rao Nagar-Trimulgherry X Roads-Bowenpally-NH7 at Tadbund.

Budget for 1.5hrs from LB Nagar to Tadbund.

+1 to the above suggested route. But what time will you be reaching Hyderabad? Going upto Mehidipatnam and taking ORR does not make sense as the time you spend reaching ORR can be made use for reaching the Nagpur highway.

re: Hyderabad to Nagpur : Route Queries

Has anyone tried the alternate route via Warora/Wani (marked in red below)? While this is longer by about 35 km, it might be faster, given the pathetic road conditions b/w Hinganghat and Adilabad.

You want to go to Nagpur? Not worth it. I only take the W-W route when going to Tadoba.

Karanji to Wani is not in the best of shapes.

re: Hyderabad to Nagpur : Route Queries

I took this road 2 times last week, out of the 150 odd km between Adilabad & Nagpur ORR - ~60km is horrible. 30km between Adilabad & Pankharwada & then 30km around Wadki. This stretch would not allow you to do more than 30-40km/h - roads absent in some places, bad diversion etc. Apart from these 2 stretches - otherwise its in reasonable condition. Should take around 3.5-4hrs to do this whole route.

How about via Wardha? My Civic took a real beating when I did this stretch last week. I have decided not to try this stretch again until conditions improve if at all.

My destination is Raipur and I was planning to take the Wani-Warora-Bhandara route to avoid this bad stretch b/w Adilabad-Hinganghat. I did take the Wani/Warora route 2 yrs back when I visited Tadoba on my way back from Raipur. Other than the pain of going through the congested market at Warora (which should not be required now given the new railway overbridge), I do not remember any bad stretches.

I intend to get off NH7 at Bori, much before Karanji, given that the bad stretch starts at the TL-AP border.

I guess you are referring to the rotue via Wardha/Yavatmal. I would be interested to know about the road conditions of that stretch as well.

Nope - i meant 3.5 hrs for Adilabad - Nagpur. Hyd - Adilabad should take another 4-4.5 hrs as the road is superb in this section.

re: Hyderabad to Nagpur : Route Queries

I agree with ethanhunt123. The roads were really painful and my car did suffer on some stretches. Road from Adilabad to Pandharkawda is bad with a lot of diversions and potholes. Even the relatively smoother looking roads on this stretch cannot be trusted as they have random potholes that appear out of no where. I strongly recommend not stretching your speed on these roads at all as they are very deceptive. From Padharkawada to Hinganghat, the roads dont even exist. Its as good as a 4x4 offroading experience. You need to have a load of patience to drive on this road. The tyres are sure to suffer badly with the boulders sticking out sharply through this stretch.
Overall 30+30kms on these 2 stretches took me a good 2 hours+ to cross which can give you a good picture. Pretty well known fact on the road conditions for everyone and really annoying that absolutely no action has been taken to repair these in the last many years.

Does anyone have a clue as to why this is lying unattended for so many years now? Is it because of a tender issue or land aquisition issue? It is very surprising indeed that one of the most important highways of the coutry is in this state! Imagine the amount fuel (read money) and time wasted day over day on these stretches.

More specifically, I would be driving to Raipur and therefore, I need not go via Nagpur at all. In this scenario, what other options do I have?
