I was taught that most breeds of dog should not be washed, unless they have got themselves covered in something nasty or dangerous that really needs to be removed asap. My mum's dogs were never washed, until she re-homed a poodle, and even that was not bathed often. With the help of brushing, which they usually enjoy, they wash and clean themselves, which also distributes the natural oils in the fur, whereas bathing can remove them.

I can understand your concern and am personally against the use of any products for bathing dogs since they cause more harm than do good. However, we let them out loose in the garden a couple of times during the day for them to play (else they bark and wail all day and I can't help but pity and let 'em free) and these rascals roll around in the sand, dust and garden waste, wet it with their pee, roll around in the same muck and make a dirty mess of themselves. And to top it, it's almost like an open invitation to fleas and ticks to come set up a colony admist their fur. Which is why, I have to give them a bath once every couple of weeks.
Henceforth though, I'll be bathing them with water only as I've found that this alone causes the fleas to flee.

You can totally keep a GSD in an apartment if you are able to take him for a long walk everyday. All those possessiveness and aggressiveness is a result of wrong upbringing. GSDs are extremely intelligent and quick learners... just that one should know how to teach them and what to teach.

These guys learn everyday, and they have a very powerful memory. Once you inhabit something in them, they will remember it lifelong. If you have a toddler at home, even better. GSDs are one breed who love children and ironically in return, teach a lot of things to them as well. Just make sure you pick-up the right puppy. Check out the temperament of the parents and take a specialist to choose the puppy.

Thank you Googleman. I wish there were more people like you who really live and understand the canine species, Man's best friend! GSD's do indeed love people and being talked to and given affection. This, coupled with their phenomenal intelligence, makes them the best companions for anyone. They are my favourite breed of all dogs. Here is a pic of my pet Cassie.

Got tired of blown CFLs due to water seepage or splashing. Hence switched to LEDs in my fish tank. Did a DIY and quite satisfied with the results.







Next plan is to add an array of red and blue LEDs to better the overall colour and add a dimmer. Initially underestimated the capacity of these LEDs and made ten strips. It is already bright for four. After I add the colours, I will make all the LEDs a tad dimmer which will increase their life as well as give a better ambience. LED ki Jai

Work in progress. But the blue and red are looking to be too intense and seem to deprieve the whites of power since I have used a single driver. Guess I should use separate drivers for the whites. Searched for a dimmer but didn't find any in SP Road. Found a slightly expensive but good product on ebay which I'm mostly going to order.

+1 to that. Cassie looks Gorgeous. She reminds me of my Dustie - a hugh GSD I had for 10 years. I have lived with GSDs all my life except for the last 3 years after Dustie passed away. It is quite difficult to get a good GSD in Madras.

She's simply adorable. Reminds me of one of my best friend's pet GSD (or Alsatian)



She was a bit cocky and basically a weirdo; I mean she'd beg you to play with her and when you finally get into the game, she'd start her growling antics and the ever-so-frightening snarl. But it was her cockiness that made her all the more intriguing and I wouldn't let a single chance of playing with her slip past whenever I'd be at his place. We all miss her so much. Yes, sadly she is no more. I can't even come to terms with the fact that she has left us; I still feel she's at my friend's place and I'd see her the next time I go there. RIP girl :[

The overall colour changed to warm white but the colour saturation is good. Still waiting for a dimmer.

Hi All,

This is my first time posting on this topic.
I live in Bangalore (moved in 6 years ago from Hyderabad)
I had an adopted male cat whom I got really attached to over the last two and half years.
Recently I changed his diet from Whiskas to Drools due to non availability of Whiskas at the local pet store. He showed some change in terms of his litter habits and sensing trouble got hold of Whiskas after two whole weeks. He seemed fine. For a day I had to go back to Drools (had an unopened pack) since his Whiskas had ran out. He once again showed some odd litter behavior (going to the litter often). Though he was back on Whiskas within a day, he continue this behavior for a couple of more days and then had a white frothy vomit. I took him to the vet the next day and a test confirmed a kidney disease.
He was put on IV but passed away on the 4th day of IV (8th Feb 2014).
I'm shell shocked! He was like my first son.

On researching about Drools, I read that it is causing kidney failure especially in male cats.
So please stay away from this brand. I also informed my vet who said he will keep an eye for more cases who may have eaten Drools!
During this time I also came to know that in general dry foods are best avoided for cats. They were meant to eat meat which contains a lot of water/moisture.

Oh god, if you had only checked here! Drools has got a terrible reputation. Wish we could have it banned!
