Re: How much do you pay for your broadband?

Using Airtel fibrenet since a couple of years now. 999(1179 with tax) for 200mbps with unlimited data and unlimited local/std calls from landline.

2.4GHz speed is around 30-40mbps and 5GHz speed is around 200-220mbps albeit the range for 5Ghz is really limited (worse if you have walls in between). To overcome this have been using a TPLink extender which does okay-ish(get around 70-80mbps at far off corners).

I do not know, may be Less than 1000/ month. Wired BB guys have been unreliable in my present location. Hence using multiple mobile data plans. 3-4 mobile phones, one 4G wifi.

Which extender do you use ? I have a 2.4Ghz TP Link extender but the speed is very poor. About 10mbps.

TP link RE200 750mbps range extender. This supports both 2.4 & 5GHz bands. I use it mainly for the 5GHz band extension.

The price is slightly on the higher side, but nothing out of the whack (800-1000 + GST is par for the course for 100 Mbps here in Bangalore too).

Palakkad is not such an out-of-the-world place, what with its IIT and also the second largest industrial belt in Kerala.
Yesterday I tried on the Airtel app with Palakkad selection, it said we will let you know once we have fiber in your area, something on those lines.

One time installation and modem will cost another Rs.5000.

Anyone aware of any better options here?
Do check out if JioFiber is available in your locality. There is a good chance of it being available in case you stay within Palakkad Town limits, as they are expanding their network.

I had signed up for it a few days back and will be getting my connection set up by next week.

As you rightly said, most of the big players haven't set up shop here. I have been making peace with a patchy BSNL FTTH connection till now, waiting for a better option.

And in case Jio isn't serving your area, Asianet is an alternative that you can check with.

Received this message from Airtel again:

Thank you for showing interest in Airtel Xstream Fiber!
We are coming to your area soon. Ask your friends and neighbors to invite us for a faster launch. Share the link- u.airtel.in/bbacq

Which area of Palakkad are you in? I could ask around. I have family, extended family, friends etc all there.

You can PM if you're not comfortable replying in thread.

I have been using this on repeater mode, get decent speeds, sometimes 100 mb+ as well on 5ghz. You can try this.

I was actually thinking of buying powerline adapters. They cost more but they have better latency compared to extenders.

I have an Airtel 200 mbps connection and the adapter below should give me 80-100 mbps. It's a 2.4G adapter with a 100mbps lan port. What do folks think ?

Thanks.

Signed up on the Jio website. Got a call and the guy says since there are zero connections in this area, he needs to do a feasibility study to see if it is possible to give the connection here. And he asked me to confirm I will surely take the connection else he won't get the feasibility study done.

Seemed like too much of a hassle and a time consuming process so signed up with Railwire.

Re: How much do you pay for your broadband?

I pay 999 plus tax per month for 100 Mbps Railwire connection. The connection is up throughout the day, except that there is an outage of one to five minutes every 2 hours. Complained twice and also escalated to Kerala circle manager, but realized that Railwire is the father of BSNL in customer service. Verified with one of my friends in another area in Trivandrum, and he is also facing the same issue.

There are very few competitors here. Another major player is Asianet broadband. Once when I enquired for a new connection in my rented apartment and mentioned to the customer manager that the apartment below mine had an outage and the service people turned up only after a week, he said "customer is bound to accept such level of service because we are a monopoly"

BSNL is also available, but the problem is that the ship has only started sinking. The ship has to sink fully to get the crew to wake up and provide any level of customer service.

Waiting for some more players like JioFiber so that customers are not taken for a ride.

Re: How much do you pay for your broadband?

hello team

Tataasky broadband guys approached our residential complex for their service. They are offering FTTH internet.

Appreciate it if you can share any feedback on TataSky broadband for internet speed and uptime. My city is Pune.

NOTE: From all FTTH based service provided currently TataSky is the only service provider which is now offering service in my area in Pune.
