Re: How much do you pay for your broadband?

Friends, finally after multiple follow-up over a month, I got the BSNL FTTH working. I went for 849 per month/ 50Mbps plan. The signal in the farthest room from router is weak and speed reduces to 5 to 6Mbps. I will observe for few more days before deciding for an extender.

Re: How much do you pay for your broadband?

Switched to airtel fiber yesterday and now am getting 300Mbps for the same amount (1500 before taxes) i was paying before for 100Mbps to local fiber provider Elxer. Loving it. 1Gbps is available too but overkill and expensive at 4k per month.

Getting internal cabling would be the cheapest option if speed issues persist. I tried wi-fi extenders, powerline extenders before moving to internal cable, which was surprisingly cheaper and more effective.

From what I hear, post JIO fiber's takeover of hathway, all Hathway subscribers can be converted to Jio at minimum cost when the service is available in our area. Will wait for Jio.
So my last plan with Hathway came up for renewal in Jan 2020. I renewed it for Rs.9900 change incl tax for 12+3 months. Comes to roughly 550+taxes p.m. Speed was 50 Mbps,1200 GB per month and cable internet.
It was going good so far, but lately due to drainage clearing and concretisation near my premises, I faced frequent downtimes and low speed.
Last tuesday, they called up and upgraded me to FTTH connection with 100 Mbps. The plan expiry is the same as before. Data provided now has dropped to 400 GB pm against 1200 GB earlier.(Raised a complaint, they said they will enhance it in 10 days). Working fine so far. Since they have provided a single band wifi router, the speed on wifi on the mobile and laptop is slightly throttled when I checked on speedtest.net and fast.com. I have ordered for a dual band wifi router. Lets see how it goes.

Re: How much do you pay for your broadband?

With most of the corporates/professionals availing WFH (Work From Home), it is an unprecedented situation for these ISPs. My 100Mbps plan is already showing less than 30 Mbps as the available bandwidth.

Just to provide context, most of residents here work in IT companies that have declared WFH. Additionally good number of residents have TVs hooked on to internet for entertainment. 5 out of 8 house on my floor do not have dish/satellite connection for TV.

Now we'll get to know which ISP really lives up to the expectation!

Re: How much do you pay for your broadband?

Moved to a new broadband provider from Jio today. I'm paying 400 a month for 10mbps unlimited. I may opt for a higher plan later but my friend has been using this local provider for years now and assured me this plan is good enough for buffering videos. Today was day one and so far so good.

Credit where it's due - Kudos to ACT for bumping up broadband speeds to 300 Mbps and unlimited data till Mar 31, to support WFH operations.

This is without additional cost.

My regular plan is ACT Storm - 150 Mbps / 650 GB

I used to have so much downtime with act that i got fed up and moved to Hathway. Almost my whole house is rigged with smart switches and when there was no internet I wouldn't have visibility on some stuff like if my water pump ran etc. WFH was always a pain and uncertain due to this.

When I was an ACT subscriber - their central firewall used to block traffic that is required for proper operations of IPSec VPNs. Only SSL VPNs used to work with them. Not sure if this situation has changed since then.

If your employer's WFH policy involves IPSec VPN then ACT might not be the ISP for you. Please verify this before committing.

Re: How much do you pay for your broadband?

Guys,
I'm moving from Bangalore (with Airtel xstream) to Mumbai. Asked friend(s) who live around; and they seem to be using local players (Wnet). Any recommendations for broadband/fiber connections around Ghatkopar, Mumbai? Currently pursuing disconnection process with Airtel; any feedback of Airtel at Mumbai?

I have good experience of Tata Sky broadband in Vikhroli since past one month even though it is too small time frame to judge. Have also heard good about Jio fiber in the area. But fiber availability is not universal and all depends on whether these players serve your society. The best way to find out is to ask other residents since calling up customer care may not yield desired results.

My experience of Airtel has been good but that was few years ago in Andheri.

Are home cable internet services covered under essential services? If my home cable internet goes down, will the repair guys be available to fix it? Over the 5 years I have been using this provider the problem has rarely been inside the home but usually at the central point in the building or somewhere upstream.

I had issues with ACT (WAN port unplugged) on March 23, after it rained in the evening.

Raised a complaint and it was fixed in under 2 hrs.

This doesn't imply it falls under Essential Services, however, ISPs are working hard to ensure the ultra large scale WFH operations are not disrupted.

Establishments providing cable & internet services are supposed to be working. My usual speed of 25mbps is now down to 3mbps for my home broadband during this lockdown!
