Yes the cable change is needed. My cousin did the upgrade and had new wires drawn.
I got the old plan installed last month as they dont have vfibre in my area. i got it as a backup since i had a few days of downtime with Hathway.

How much do you pay for your broadband?

So I have been using ACT for an year now, I remember paying up about Rs.16000/- upfront for 1 year which included the router as well. The plan is for 650GB monthly at 150mbps. And the bonus is Rs.250 cash back on Netflix, so I pay Rs.249 every month to ACT and I get to use the Netflix Rs.499 plan.

Now im due for renewal in August, and was checking if there are any such attractive plans, but couldnt find any. Im being told by my local ACT representative that I can continue the same plan, obviously there is no free router which I anyway do not need. I was kind of hoping that there would be a reduction in the prices, but no luck so far. Have 2 weeks to finalise the plan, if any of you have heard of some attractive ACT plan do let me know.

The cabling into your house till the Router/Modem will be changed to an optic fiber one. From the router your connections can remain the same and they will still work.

Re: How much do you pay for your broadband?

Surprised that there is no posting on this thread about Jio Fiber's latest unlimited plans.
Plans start from Rs.399/- pm for 30 Mbps unlimited (3300 GB FUP). Also on offer is symmetrical upload and download speeds.

https://www.jio.com/fiber/en-in/plans

Taking a cue from Jio, Airtel has also introduced unlimited broadband fiber plans starting from 40 Mbps @ Rs.499/- per month.

https://www.airtel.in/broadband/bangalore

Note: I am not affiliated with any of the above providers. I have a Hathway connection which is working fine at Bangalore and Airtel VDSL in Mumbai which is also working ok so far.

Its a good time to shift from overpriced plans with data caps from ACT or BSNL

What if their cables in the street are copper? Will it still work? I have a Rs 599 / 16 mbps connection (20 mbps actual speed) which they suddenly converted to unlimited data from 156 GB. All the others have OFC cables on the road except Airtel in our area. I am keeping the connection because it is the only landline I have and don't want to change the number.

Same for me. I switched the plan from 799 to 499 yesterday. I get 24Mbps and it is the erstwhile twisted pair copper cable. I have never used the broadband yet, since Hathway is my primary for broadband and Airtel is failover.

After reading your post, I casually checked the Airtel website and was shocked to see the same speed/calls/unlimited data is available for 499. Current plan is 999. Only the difference is in the bundled goodies (Shaw academy, Wink !!??)

Changed to 499 plan immediately. Connection resets. Back online. I get the same speed as before - 40MBps!

Airtel looted me for a while

I have paid more for years due to same reason - Airtel would update the plans and make it cheaper, but would keep you on old plan/rate until the day you wake up and call them for the change - an you would be paying lesser for same or better plan than what you were getting so far.

The bandwidth speeds are different between plans.
Rs. 499 -- 40Mbps
Rs. 799 -- 100Mbps
Rs. 999 -- 200Mbps
Rs. 1499 -- 300Mbps
Rs. 3999 -- 1Gbps

So while the data cap is same (3TB) speeds are different

I agree, but I am on the max speed limit due to the copper DSL line. So even if I pay 999, I get only 40Mbps.

exactly the reason why i responded so others can take advantage of the new reduced pricing. This is something they introduced, i think, very recently. This is beneficial for a few folks like you and me who are stuck with legacy technology without access to fiber.

We've been pushing to get this done in our society. Airtel has copper wiring right now (maxed out at 40mbps and in terms of connections). A couple of us residents have been chasing the Airtel guys and society committee to come on common ground over the many issues, since there will be drilling, laying of new cables and so on. Finally the LoI has been signed and wiring will commence.

We've been told there's four plans: 799 (100mpbs), 999 (200mbps), 1499 (200mbps with unlimited data) and one more.

They will set up completely fresh wiring in each flat (fibre optic) and provide a new Modem/Router.

In my society we have these plans. I had opted for Rs 999/- Plan (200mbps) for 310gb* monthly, which presently has been upgraded to Rs 999/-, 200mbps, unlimited plan. Happy with Airtel service and broadband.

*(300gb + 10gb Bonus)

They will install with a new router (free), and yes new fibre optic cable is required for this service.

Please note the plan charges are exclusive of GST.

Re: Prepaid Broadband Service?

Would there be a ISP, who can provide the internet for couple of months in an year and keep the connection suspended for the rest of the time?

I need a provider who can activate/deactivate with just say, couple of day's notice.

Please advise!

Your best option is to go for a prepaid monthly or even weekly plan. Jiofiber offers monthly and weekly plans and they're prepaid. Airtel fiber too might be providing similar plans.

In the past with postpaid plans there was an option to disconnect the account and request for a new account on Airtel, while keeping the cabling and router as-is. But I don't know if that works now or not.
