Ugh - Braaaack!!

Just sat thru threee hours of SHEER TORTURE yesterday.

I rarely go for movies, and decided do go for the Kamal Hassan movie DASAVATHARAM given all the hype around him and his experiments

Well this one fell FLAT on its face - and HORRIBLE FACE(s) that too!

In one word the only thing this one exhibited was Kamal's MEGALOMANIA!

You have Kamal playing some 10 odd roles - including that of Mr. Bush - and I am telling you - the make up was HORRIBLE! He should have made his makeover ppl see the Big Momma series, or some of Eddie Murphy's movies to see how effective make up should look like. IN this case most of his make-up made his face seem immovable - cast in stone - and strangely his eyes seem to BULGE out disproportionately. The proportions were ALL shot to pieces. DISGUSTING!!

And he should positively STOP writing his own stories! The script was so shallow and unimaginative that even a kindergarten kid would have done better.

Even the crowds seem to have given this the go-bye. The theatre was EMPTY!

What a fall from grace!

Just got back from Hancock. The end has been screwed up a bit.

HANCOCK

Will Smith plays an alcoholic care-a-damn for anyone super hero. Though he fights crime, he is hated by the people for his attitude and drunken ways. He saves the life of a PR guy who promises to make over his image and make him more friendly until.......Hancock gets attracted to his wife and gets a nasty surprise.

The 1st half of the movie is zingy and Will Smith is in rocking form - funny as hell. It's the 2nd half that takes the movie down to it's depth. There was promise but the the story writer could not lift it up. Mediocre writing for the 2nd half.

Charlize Theron is looking smoking hot. Special effects are as good as they have been in Hollywood and we have pretty much seen everything now - no real surprises in that department.

Verdict - 2/5.
Watch it for Will Smith's rocker of a performance and be warned the 2nd half is a let down.

Films I have watched this past week

The Other Boleyn Girl : Stellar performances from Natalie Portman & Eric Bana. Scarlett Johannson I don't like that much so can't comment on her. Great film though, if you like period dramas.

WALL. E. : Very clever feel good film from Pixar. Informative for children today based on global warming, what happens if we don't eat right & exercise regularly.

Definitely Maybe : Great performance from Abigail Breslin, and Ryan Reynolds. It's one of his first 'serious' films and he's done pretty well. Nice rom-com.

Chaos Theory : A bit mad, another film with Ryan Reynolds, but funny

WANTED

IMO. Do not hear or read the story before watching the movie.

Verdict - 4/5.
Things in the movie will defy nature but forget the logic its worth a watch for the visual effects. Angelina Jolie - well face tells it all but she is as hot as ever.

KUNG FU PANDA

All about a panda who dreams of becoming a kung fu expert while his dad wants him to take over and run his business. By a twist of fate, he becomes the chosen one to fight the biggest enemy - the tiger.

Simple story - effectively told and brilliantly animated. Po is lovable as the Panda and Jack Black does absolute justice to Po's voice. Also the 5 disciples - awesome !

Po's one liner's are simply awesome

Verdict - 4/5. Yes it is a children's movie but it is awesome fun and it's got a message for everyone. Go watch it now.

Hellboy II - The Golden Army: Frankly, I liked the first one better but this wasnt bad either. Great graphics. The Nazi background of making a portal to bring in the evil gods gives Hellboy and interesting touch.

2.5/5

Dhund: A 1970' movie starring Zeenath Aman and Sanjay Khan.

Navin Nischol is driving on a very foggy night and ends up crashing his car. Walks to the nearest house where he finds a dead Danny and his wife Zeenath Aman holding a gun. She confesses to the murder but he helps her destroy the evidence and frames a story of a botched up robbery.
Enter the Police and soon an affair is uncovered. Sanjay Khan a leading lawyer and politician is very freindly with Zeenath Aman and the police consider him a prime suspect. Add to this Danny' step mother and a retared step brother. A classic whodonit by BR Chopra.
Music is ok with one very good song.
The movie is a 8/10 rating for sheer gripping value.

Finished the movie and the rating stands at 2/5.
It is incredible that they decide to bring back an icon on the flimsiest of the story line.

We have an incredible car, a twit of an FBI agent, a hero (ex-army man) who looks like he just passed college, the leading lady who cannot act for peanuts and the story so thin that it seems to be written by a person after he/she underwent brain removal surgery.

Full marks to the car

Over the weekend on Zee Studio, they were airing "The Cinderalla Man" featuring Russell Crowe and Renee Zellweger.

The backdrop is "The Great Depression" of the 1920's. James J. Braddock is just another boxer in the ring and loses more than he wins. Due to the economic depression, he hardly manages a job and just about manages to meet ends for his wife and three kids. Such is the hardship that Braddock decides to take boxing seriously. Joe Gould becomes his manager and the duo become a force to reckon with.

Braddock goes on to defeat the top two title contenders for the World Heavyweight Championship. The American media christens him the 'Cinderalla Man' for his fairy tale comeback in the ring. He is the hope of the Americans. His never say die attitude rubs onto the New Jersesians. He goes on to defeat Max Baer to clinch the World heavyweight title in a bloody bout.

Brilliant performance by Crowe. Renee Zellweger is good too. Crowe's manager, Joe Gould (dont know the name of the actor) is simply awesome.

I rate this movie very highly. 4.5/5. Made my weekend.
