re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

The Reader

Watched this one last night. Movie was OK 3/5. Guess Kate Winslett finally got her Oscar for this after quite a few explicit sexual scenes.
-----------------------------

Hangover Part II

Was waiting for some fun to start, it never did, could not even grin, it was so sick, had to switch off after 45 minutes of glum viewing, could have been better off watching a horror movie.
.05/5
----------------------------

Killing me Softly
Again explicit sexual scenes from Heather Graham, gripping in certain parts, cheap thriller in many parts.

2.5/5 ok maybe 3/5
---------------------------

Wag the Dog

About how the US President's team try to cover up a Lewinsky like situation by 'creating' a war that never was and several other distractions till the elections are over. Nice imagination or maybe that's the way they do work.

3.5/5
---------------------------
The Pianist
Have seen it long back on TV. Saw it once again and enjoyed every bit of it. One of the many movies about the Holocaust, but this one is centered around music and the musician.

4/5.

Duel - Steven Spielberg's maiden movie

Just now I finished watching Steven Spielberg's first directorial venture Duel. There were only two main characters in this action-thriller: a car driver and a crazy truck driver [we don't see his face till the end]. Road rage was the main theme. It seemed that Steven Spielberg didn't complete his degree at his film school. Click here for more details.

My rating: 5/5

Watch Hard Rain.

*ing: Morgan Freeman and Christian Slater.

A gripping, edge-of-the-seat movie that has a good plot. I like the way it's been shot too.

Rated: 4/5

Its one of the best movies in my list. Adrien Brody gives performance of his life as the Pianist.

Yeah, it was lot less engaging than youd expect a comic derived movie.
Ghost rider 2 needed more of the ghost rider, less of nicholas cage from matchstick men.
Is what Id put up y'day.

Howver, with all the developments, I am sure theres going to be a huge sequel now.

4/5

On the success of MI4, I thought of watching MI3. But I was in for disappointment. The movie didnt deliver the thrills (nor the space age technology), and I got pretty bored towards the mid of the movie. They could have done better. Rating: 2.5/5 from my side.

If you like 'Eye of the Needle' then you need to watch 'The day of the Jackal'. But in both the cases, novel is much better than the movie.

Frederick Forsyth. Yeah, it starts slowly and then it gains tempo. And the technical detail he provides about everything, keeps you engrossed. One hell of a novel.
