Strong robust watches—running on solar. Well most of them.

What is the cheapest tough solar with vibration resistance on the gshock/protrek series? Lets drop the twin or triple sensor requirement.

Mate that would be the Casio G-Shock G5600 (based on the legendary design by Kikuo Ibe on the very first release of G-Shock models).

I use this watch while riding and it easily slides under the gloves due to its small footprint (I have a Tbird500 which comes with a digital clock on the IC hence can the said wrist wear watch under the gloves). It is light weight and after a while one forgets about having it on wrist as it becomes a part of one's wrist. Has all the bells and whistles one would get from a basic level G-Shock.

re: Which watch do you own?

Got this Baby G for my wife from Japan last month. She loved it. She has been longing for a digital watch for some time.

Has a pastel pink strap. While the design takes after the 5600 series, it is much smaller.

In the meantime, my military green 7900 requires a strap + body replacement. Ordered a black replacement from eBay.

Let me give you an example. I was in Goa last month. Didn't have to take off my g shock at any point of time during the whole vacation. Wore it in the ocean (and the beach while I played in the sand with my kid), the swimming pool and the shower. Didn't matter one bit. It took everything in its stride. It just made me fall in love with the watch all that much more. While in town I actually hardly use it. It's my go to watch however when I travel due to the absolute convenience it offers (including the world time and the backlight functions).

A good review: https://www.ablogtowatch.com/casio-g...-watch-review/

Where are the best watch deals for stuff like this found? I have folks in Malaysia, so maybe buying out of Singapore should be alright shipped.

Alternatively, if you have anyone visiting from the US, then the Black Friday sales on US websites are just a few days away.

Must. Resist. Urge. To>Empty>Bank Account.

But this watch seems to tick most of what I want:

1. Triple senson/Quad sensor
2. Tough watch
3. Looks the part

:(
1. No solar
2. No sapphire glass.

Though I see the solar + sapphire combo is only reserved for the $400+ GWG 1000 which is an insane overkill of a watch.

I recently bought the most affordable GS for about 2.7k after all discounts. It was originally priced at 4.3k and when I showed it to my wife for the first time she was utterly shocked to see a normal digital watch. My nephew(aged 9) also wears a local digital watch, that looks similar to GS, with a price of 300 INR. She asked me in utter disbelief why would I spend so much money on this which is not smart and when I already had an Apple watch as well.

In reply I threw the brand new watch from the 2nd floor of my house where we were standing on to the street. She thought I was throwing it in anger upon being questioned on my purchase and was again shocked.

I then got the watch back from the street which was still looking new and told this is why this watch is so famous and expensive. I then proceeded to put the watch in a bucket full of water and my daughter started playing with it by dipping it in water and later I found she was applying soap to it as if bathing it. All this on the zero day of purchase. I never doubted it even though this is my first GS. That explains the trust this watch has earned over the years.

You have to (ab)use it to believe it.

Why are the orient watches so affordable here 8k-9k INR? Resisting the itch!

re: Which watch do you own?

Since its raining Casios here, I thought I'd share a picture of my humble A178WA-1A. I bought it circa 2011. It is functionally similar to the classic f91w-1 but has a stainless steel strap, dual time and an afterglow illuminator. The font is bigger and hence easier to read.

No idea. If I had to hazard a guess, probably because Singapore (where this company is incorporated) has low import duties? Or maybe because it's Black Friday week?

Cheers,
Vikram
