The following excerpt is taken from this link:

Column 4: Present Residential Address Details (where applicant presently resides)
Please note that heavy penalty is applicable if the applicant provides false information or suppresses information regarding present residential
address details.
<Column 4.1: Residing Since>
Write the date (in the MM-YYYY format) since when you have been residing at your present address.
 If you have been residing at your present residential address for less than one year, you are required to furnish details of the
previous address (es) where you have resided along with the duration of residence in Column 3 of the Supplementary Form.

So, in a nutshell, it is advisable to get your address changed in your renewed PP, if you've been staying there for more than 1 year.

Assuming you do address change + renewal, then:

1. Yes, police verification will take place.

2. At least in Pune, they send a SMS with date and time when you have to visit the police station for verification. Maybe someone from Bangalore can give a more accurate reply to this w.r.t whether verification is done via a home visit or if you need to visit the police station.

3. Changing your address in PP without Aadhar address change is possible. There is an exhaustive list of docs that is accepted as address proof. Please check the link given above.

4. They will return the old PP along with the renewed PP if it has valid / unexpired visas in it.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Vikram

The address verification process has been waived off recently.

O.T., Updating address in aadhar is an easy process through online, provided your mobile number is registered with aadhar. Its get updated within one day.

I don't think this has been implemented, I think they are just proposing it. I think if your address remains the same for passport renewal then they waive it.

A policeman came to my home yesterday in Hyderabad to verify my address for my passport renewal. Took signatures from two neighbours and a thumb print also

Wish this decision was made a few months ago - would have saved me so much effort and time running around for verification!

I trust they would take atleast a few weeks if not months to implement/change the process across the nation.

As you can read from the linked article, this new process has been in pilot phase for 4 weeks already. I guess it'd take up to a fortnight for circulars to reach all RPOs in India and acted upon, so by now it must be in the process of nationwide implementation.

Earlier they never waived the requirement. They just executed it post issuance of passport in most cases.

Unfortunately, when we applied several years ago for our Aadhar cards, our mobile numbers were not linked. I tried to have this updated over the weekend to allow for online updation of address but the queues (and wait times) in BangaloreOne centers were way too long and put me off.

Thankfully I don't need Aadhar as address proof for PP renewal.

Thanks to all others who responded to my queries with your inputs. Much appreciated.

The aadhar website lists the different kinds of documents that can be uploaded for changing the address (link). Any one such proof is adequate.

Anybody else encountered this? Appreciate any suggestions - this is a bit urgent.
Thanks to all for helping with this. The officials in the PSK re-adjusted the address. One suggestion please use the "Village/City" box to indicate area such as Jayanagar, Indiranagar, etc. in case you are running out of space. I must say the experience at the PSK was extremely good - they have stream-lined the process. Huge, huge improvement since my last couple of visits.

The police verification request was initiated the same day I submitted the application. In a couple of days even received a call from the local police station asking me to visit. I had all the originals as well as one copy of all supporting documents, so it helped. He visited my house and took pictures, uploaded the verification data. I was told everything was done.

The status on the website still shows "pending physical verification at the local Thana" though.

Re: Passport Renewal Procedure

Guys, a cousin is in this situation.

Is there a possibility to get the date of birth (Year of birth) changed in the passport that was issued in 2016.

All documents like school 10th certificate, DL, Adhaar, Voter ID has the correct year of birth i.e. 1993. But the birth certificate has the incorrect year of birth i.e. 1992.

The current original passport was made on the basis of the incorrect year of birth as he submitted birth certificate at that time.

How to proceed in this situation? How to get it corrected easily?

I am in the same situation currently. My sons passport was made in 1998 by giving Birth certificate which had DOB 1996 instead of the real 1995 which is there on all other certificates. I did try to get it changed when it was renewed in 2013 but the process was too cumbersome and considering my son was giving his NEET Medical entrance that year so did not follow it up. I would also love to know the current procedure to get it changed as he is fed up of traveling with a wrong DOB and it also renders the document useless as a proof of identification.

I have experience in this matter. However my experience is based on interactions with PSK Thane, Maharashtra.

While applying for my father's passport in May 2016, instead of 1938, I typed 1936 as year of birth and during the initial verification at the PSK it slipped my mind to recheck it.
I was allowed to accompany my father since he is a senior citizen.

The passport was issued and as expected the year of birth showed as 1936.

So I visited the Asst Passport officer, Thane and explained the problem with documentary proof - Pan, Aadhar, Senior Citizen card etc.
The lady there told me to reapply for the passport with new details.

So next day I made a fresh request for new passport with actual year of birth and the new passport was issued without any problem.

The second time at PSK, I took all his old passports that were expired and other documentary evidence and explained the problem at Counters B & C.
Since I was accepting that it was my fault and was willing to pay the passport fees, there was no problem and a new passport was issued to my father.

As long as you are willing to pay the fees, there is no problem. This is the experience at PSK, Thane. I hope it is the same at all PSK.

One point I will stress - The last two passports for my father were issued by Thane Passport Office and there was no change in address.
So I believe since they already had his details in their system along with actual year of birth, there was no problem in issuing my father his passport with correct year of birth.

Hope this helps.

My landlord isn't interested in giving an noc. So process has stalled for past 5 months as it's going to and from between local police stn and SP office. An SP office go-ahead is the last step which the PSK guys wait for before printing and dispatching the passport. Actually it's not required as a document. How can I overcome this?
