His hitting ability has been on the wane for some time, especially against back of length pace bowling. Coming to his captaincy, in the IPL he's blessed with a good team with good resources & that isn't necessarily the case in the Indian team. Probably we're overexpecting from him. When you have specialist frontline seamers there's no need for him to open the bowling + not utilizing your frontline bowlers is a bit strange when you want to try out new things.

Don't worry.
Pant has already started playing club cricket. I expect him to be back in team by end of year.

Pandya is a selfish player with a stinking attitude. Not at all Captaincy material. Let's not forget GT winning trophy is largely due to Ashish Nehra as well. Here Dravid has been a failure as a coach evident by series after series. I have low hopes for WC too with these guys at helm.

Anyways I am glad Jaiswal is shaping up well. We badly needed a competent attacking lefty at top. And good to see Bumrah back for today's match.

Asia Cup 2023, Squad:

Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, Prasidh Krishna.

Strange, Why Gill is being dropped ?

Goodness gracious he’s in. There was some kind of fiasco from the broadcasters earlier.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Surprised with Tilak Varma's inclusion. Based on 1 good innings in a T20 International.

Should have been there in the Main Squad instead of SKY but I guess Team Management very badly wants SKY to come good. Samson has the better ODI numbers. KL has picked up a new niggle so initial few games he won't be available. All the more reason for Samson to be picked in the main squad!

Road ended quite some time back for them. Barring Chahal perhaps. Chahal needs to reinvent himself in white ball format though.

Pretty much the team that was expected, I see Ishan Kishan Playing ahead of Samson as a keeper anyway. I think team should look to chnage batting order a bit and look at the below combination:

1. Ishan Kishan
2. Rohit Sharma
3. Shubman Gill
4. Virat Kohli
5. Shreyas Iyer
6. Hardik Pandya
7. Ravindra Jadeja
8. Axar Patel
9. Mohammed Shami
10. Mohammed Siraj/Kuldeep Yadav
11. Bumrah

IF KL rahul is fit, then Ishan Kishan is dropped and he bats at #5

Its a bad idea to drop Kohli down to no.4 ! Everybody knows his game against spin bowling isn't what it used to be. With the WC so close, you have to ensure that majority of the players play at the same spot which they're supposed to during the WC. And this is where I feel Samson should have been selected in the main squad. Now since KL will miss the initial games, Samson could have easily slotted in at no.5. Now what will happen is Ishan will most probably be forced to bat at no.4/5 which isn't his usual spot & he tends to struggle to rotate the strike in the middle order. If management wants to make Ishan open then Gill & Virat both will have to shuffle their usual batting positions. I don't see both Axar being picked in the XI unless the pitch is really slow or turning too much.

I would go with:

R Sharma
S Gill
V Kohli
S Iyer
KL / I Kishan
H Pandya
R Jadeja
K Yadav
M Shami
M Siraj
J Bhumrah

Re: The Cricket Thread

As usual India looks formidable on paper but how this translates on the field is a matter of conjecture. Beating SL isn't going to be easy. And Pakistan is always at their competitive best against the Indians.
Sadly, no X factor in this Indian lineup. Considering the Asia cup to be a trailer for the ODI WORLD CUP India needs to come on the field all guns blazing.

Re: The Cricket Thread

It's not wise to make Ishan play in the middle order or push Kohli down to 4. I sincerely believe, Samson will play the first 2 matches in place of KL while Ishan remains our backup opener. Clarity of roles is extremely important with just a handful of matches left before the world cup.

Re: The Cricket Thread

I just tried to book the tickets on BookMyShow. The ticket booking opened around 30 seconds past 6 PM. The India vs South Africa match was directly shown as sold out. I selected India vs England - it showed me to wait 19 minutes and then the website crashed.

The website is running now, and I selected the India vs Australia match. It presently shows me that the wait time is more than an hour. If any one knows a better way to book tickets, do let me know

Re: The Cricket Thread

I think we should have no trouble at the Asia Cup. A fully-fit Hardik and Jadeja are really all the 'x-factor' our ODI team needs. Pakistan haven't had any real match practice for a long time, and they are the only serious opposition I see here.

The World Cup, of course, is an entirely different thing.

Its a complete farce, it showed me one hour waiting then for kicks I let it be, it changed to 2 hours and then 3 hours. How can my time increase in queue when all it will take is a minute or so for the one in front of me to complete transaction. Not just for India match it was same stupidity for Australia vs Pakistan match also which eventually started showing sold out.

The only way to get tickets is either by standing in queue at box office on day of sale or if you know sponsors or some influential people.

Samson isn't eligible to play. He is in reserves. He can't be drafted in main team unless a player is declared out of tournament and KL is only stated to miss first 2 matches for now. So, Ishan is definitely playing. A travesty considering Samson is suited at 5 the best in absence of KL but all hail the selection forsight.

I don't think you have followed Asia cup closely over the years. You may know, India and Pakistan have never played a final together. It's highly competitive and Sri Lanka and Afghanistan are as dangerous as Bangladesh and Pakistan. We didn't even made the last Asia cup final.

And Pakistan are a very well organized settled team in odis. We all are in for a treat.

By the way, 2 other good matches today.
Eng vs NZ.
Aus vs SA.
