Why are you thinking we can only play for a draw? If manage to make 275+ we have a very good chance of winning. Of course dependent on weather and bad light. If this test ends in a draw with all 6 days affected I am no longer care about WTC next cycle cos if ICC doesn't care about the most important Final in Test history then why should I

A 250+ score will be good, I think. Our 3 quicks are capable of creating havoc. We have a bowling attack that can pick wickets in each session.

If we reach 200 for 3 or whereabouts and if Pant and Jadeja have a go, we are talking about a big score here. That can be enough pressure on them, and NZ may want to look at the weather.

Re: The Cricket Thread

With the Duke's ball doing things even in the 60th over, thanks to the overhead conditions, the batsman are never really in. So its important to look to score runs as well.

Scary and Swinging conditions, heavy outfield, 36 All out is still there in my mind, plus you are never settled even if you play 50 plus balls. Fingers crossed and waiting.

Shane Warne says if it Seems, it will spin too. Never heard off that, but I got to believe because it comes from a legend. Ash and Jaddu will also have a go.

Re: The Cricket Thread

If Kohli and Pant getting out in the first session of Day 2 wasn't enough, Rahane threw his wicket away after playing so well and knowing what Wagner was trying with the short ball, he just couldn't control his instincts to lob the ball and get out!
We somehow need close to another 100 runs to get to a decent 275+ score.

Re: The Cricket Thread

I'm watching on Hotstar and the commentary and analysis (sky sports?) is so good and such a relief listening to after the IPL. Sadly the commentary by our guys, especially former Indian cricketers, is all about sucking up to the star image of the players. I had to watch most part of the IPL on mute. Here I am happy listening to DK. Easy on the ears and surrounded by a great team.

Re: The Cricket Thread

What a tame capitulation in the end.

Why were Ishant and company trying to play like batsmen.

When a few good hits would have gotten us much needed extra runs.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Jadeja was absolutely rubbish. Didn't attack, didn't farm the strike, no match awareness. Highly disappointing.

Yes, he could have started attacking the ball once
Ashwin got out or even while they batted together. Since Ashwin was already trying to score runs fast, a batting attack at both ends may have surprised the NZ bowling and got us 20-30 more runs.

Also disappointed with Rahane who seems to do a lot of good work and throw it all away with a moment of madness in critical situations

Re: The Cricket Thread

A lovely contest between bat and ball. Such a shame ICC could only manage to schedule a one-off game, that too virtually guanranteed to be weather-affected.

This deserved to be at least a 3-game series. The interim ICC chief admitted as much, but said there's no scheduling space for it.

Re: The Cricket Thread

12 sessions so far 12 more to go. The analysis so far is
6 sessions won by Rain
3 sessions by NZ
1 session by India
1 session shared by Ind and Rain
1 session shared by Ind and NZ

Re: The Cricket Thread

Clear weather predicted for today and tomorrow.
So unless we dismiss NZ for a record low and score biiiig, it might be trouble for India. Hopefully, we play like we did against Aus & Eng!

Re: The Cricket Thread

This has clearly gone beyond farcical now. Not necessarily to hit back tit for tat, especially with so much on the line, but at least in India we had all the tests decided based on how the teams played. The key factor being that the teams got to play on an even footing.

How is this an even footing, when one team has rapidly diminishing chances to recover from a bad day, while the other team having won a few sessions before the rain came down, now only has to press home the advantage in the curtailed time remaining which ensures that the other team has its back against the wall?

Why is there no international uproar and wringing of hands and huge crocodile tears now?

Whatever one's team allegiances are, and whatever scheduling restrictions were at play with ICC, this is no way to decide a 'championship'. Ultimate test? Ultimate farce is more like it.

They should've either made space for a proper multi-game contest, or awarded the title based on cumulative points, or just postponed the idea until a proper contest could be arranged.
