Folks

Looks like there might be call for bandh this Friday over the Kaveri water issue. Protests have already started in Mandya.
My friend whose home town is Mysore said all buses are being diverted via Kanakapura road.

One more Friday. One more Bandh.
What a fabulous situation in terms of productivity loss.
Also, with all these bandhs and the consequent loss in working time, don't these idiots realise that it is the tax paying Joe who is getting hit always?

Sir, I wouldn't call them as idiots at least this time. This strike/bandh is needed for the benefit of the people, especially Mysore, Mandya, Ramanagar and Bangalore regions.

Bangalore is growing and requires water more than anything less.

Regards

Is it postponed? Google maps shows traffic on the flyover.

I totally appreciate that people need water and cities like Bangalore do too. And yes, the poor farmers are not idiots. I apologise.
Because the poor guys are growing food to feed us all.

And increasingly, India's lovely arable land is being converted into residential and commercial property by greedy unscrupulous builders in conjunction with the government and development authorities.

But have you thought what will happen to the poor farmers on the TN side of the Cauvery Delta? Do they not deserve a part of this natural resource too?

Or is it that the Cauvery belongs exclusively to the place where it springs from? If that is indeed true, then the people of Coorg have more right to it than anyone else!

I will not get into the debate of KA vs TN, if the farmers in KA are idiots and TN farmers are poor.

All I am saying is that if TN farmers have the right to protest and call for a bandh, then so do farmers in Karnataka.

By the way from your logic, what about Mullaperiyar Dam issue?

I will end my conversation on this here before I get ticked from the Admin and also to keep away from such logical discussion.

Folks

Loos like in all probability Sep 9th will be a holiday due to Karnataka bandh. People who have TN registered vehicles, do not ply the vehicles on the road.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Today was a regular traffic day, with most of the vacationers returning to Bengaluru I guess.

And here I see a call for one more Bandh this Friday in Bengaluru?

Makes one wonder, does someone really look into the massive losses faced on account of these Bandhs and strikes? Such a colossal waste of money and resources. The only positive part will be the easy and quick commute to work (albeit a bit risky).

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

And yet another day when schools will be closed! My son had to go to school on one Saturday, to makeup for the previous bus strike. I hope that schools do not decide to cut into the Dussera holidays. My hotels are already booked, and I have zero flexibility on my dates.

The Supreme Court has directed Karnataka to release water till the next hearing on September 16th. This was passed on yesterday.

So protests have started since yesterday night and today Mandya district itself is shut down as I see protests live on TV now. Schools and Colleges are also shut here as per news reports.

Apart from this, Karnataka has suspended 700 Buses to TN and same is being reciprocated by Tamil Nadu. Protests are planned near Hosur too and few reports mention Hosur and nearby areas are already protesting.

Thankfully, I am working from Home today but my colleagues who have traveled to EC reported normalcy. Good to know the latest information before driving towards Hosur.
