Had gone to Magadi road on Monday. Left Marathahalli @ 9.30 PM and returned back @12.45 am. Took the NICE road both ways. My observations on security measures:

En route to Magadi Road
-> A police barricade on Hosur Road was being put up near ecity towards Hosur @ ~10 PM. Didnt stop as they were putting it in place. There were 3 cops, all of them regular police. Looks like traffic towards Hosur is checked around that time?

-> A NICE jeep driving @ good speed. Looks like they just burn diesel, stop when the tank is empty and sleep.

-> A zig-zag barricade before the Mysore road exit IIRC. Couple of gents were sitting on chairs near the barricades.

Return from Magadi Road
-> 2 constables on a motorcycle. This was right before the ORR junction on Magadi road around 11.30 PM. Stopped me and asked where I was going.

-> ~10 policemen at silk board junction stopping all vehicles. 5 seemed normal police, 3 were traffic police. The IT people movers (indicab, sumo, qualis etc) were being made to stop on the left. Private vehicles were asked to be on the right. Roll-down my window and switch on light. They guy waves me on.

Is it enough? No.
But are they doing nothing? No

Checking would not help much. They would not Mug or stay clear from those area.

It is not like they just decide to mug on ORR and go. It is studied, planned and executed. If there is a check post even a fool would not mug there. Plainclothes men or having some hidden IR Camera is the solution

The only way to Curb these muggings is to impose heavy consequences on whoever is involved in anti-social activities. I may sound rude, but they must be given Life-time (till they die) in Jail or even hang them. At the very least, they must give an option to the mugger whether he would like his hand severed or leg severed. This is the only way to instigate fear in people. If its a "fine" they would pay the fine and walk away. Only if the consequences are heavy, muggers and thieves will stop.

Its scary and that too in the noon.

It is not the connection between poor and rich rather it is in between the greedy and innocent. These type of day light robbery is not because of poorness, it is because of making easy money without any hard work.

The only relief to this is the City police who can be brought to knowledge about these kind of incidents. Once the victim is looted away, he never thinks of filing a compliant and explain the incident to the police. Unless and until anyone complains nothing may happen in the near future.

Honestly, I am shocked that such incidents are continuing unabated in bengaluru. For someone who often travels/cycles at late nights in gurgaon - gurgaon is generally far safer than this!

But good of the bikers to stop and help out the hapless car guy - kudos to them - most people don't notice or care

Guys, a query on related lines. Are those using Airtel mobile phones able to get through to the cops using 100 ? When i try the same on my phone, it says "Attempting emergency calls", and then disconnects on its own.

I tried using !00, as well as 080 100, but both dont seem to go through.

Thats odd. When i dialed 100 from my airtel connection, it directed me to Police Control Room and they redirected my issue to the nearest police station.

Thanks. This is not the first time i wasn't able to connect. Even for the incident which involved my car's accident with an auto, i tried calling the cops from my mobile and it didn't go through.

On Sunday evening, when i saw a guy on a Honda City being surrounded by local thugs on Sarjapur road. Also, yesterday morning, when i tried it along ith a colleague holding a Vodafone connection. He was able to get through, i couldn't.

Did you stop to help the City guy?

How about BHPians who stay/travel around Sarjapur or ORR creating a thread and sharing numbers? I think this was discussed before but never really took off. I stay near Bellandur and it would take me ten minutes to get to anyone who calls. Sometimes this might be faster/better than calling the police. I believe most mugging situations here could have been avoided with the support of one or more persons speaking for the victim.

PS: I am a localite; if that helps.

PPS: 100 works perfectly fine from my airtel connection - police control room responds fast enough too. It's the local police stations that are a nuisance.
