See India,

Go talk to your dealer tomorrow, request and get in writing 1 week extension for 1st Service date - then as suggested by, all - ride the hell out of your HD do some respectable milage between 800 - 1200 KM and then take it in for service.

With a HD you should be looking for an "excuse not to ride"

If you are in good terms with the dealer I am sure he will accommodate your request.

Best Regards & Ride safe

Ram

Hi Shubz,

How often do you go for group rides? Is it any fixed days or any schedule drawn up for a particular time period? Who plans this?
Please advice on the above and other details pertaining to group rides as well.

Thanks a lot.

By the way, love your gear man!

Cheers

Thanks Cyborg!

We have a ride every Sunday. A breakfast ride or a B'fast ride with a visit to a scenic place like some hill top or dam etc.
1 Sunday of every month, there will be an overnighter. We ride out on a Saturday, check into a hotel, party, check out on Sunday morning and ride back. This is usually a 300- 350 km one way ride.

June we have the world ride for 3 days/2 nights to Hampi.

We HOG Officers get together and plan out the rides. We take feedback from the riders on choice of places etc before confirming. Rides are planned well in Advance and put up so people can choose which ones they want to join, which one's they could give a pass.

Thanks a ton for the information Shubz!

Some further clarifications
Do you have a meeting of sorts on a ride itself to ask for suggestions for the next one?
Where is the information on rides "put up"?
How does everybody communicate?
Does the Bombay chapter operate in the same manner?

Cheers

Yes and No - Yes to the fact that we ask for suggestions in general, not on any occasion as a ride. No, we need not ask everyone as to what the next ride should be. Rides are planned by HOG officers keeping in mind several factors, place, convenience to ride till there, road conditions, fuel/bfast stops etc.

Where is the information on rides "put up"?

Official HOG page of the respective Chapter.

How does everybody communicate?
Emails and FB page updates

Does the Bombay chapter operate in the same manner?
They sure should. If not, ask them for more details. These are HD India practices. not specific to any regional chapter

Re: I just got Har-Ley'd! My Iron 883

Thank you all for advising me on the service. r_nairtvm I'm sorry I read your message only after I got the service done already. Actually just like a child excited about his first visit to the zoo, I was waiting for the day even before I had booked the appointment. Though later it turned out to be a right decision as the service advisor clearly told me that delaying the service by a month or two would have definitely jeopardised my warranty execution later. And for various practical reasons there was no way I could have completed another 1000 odd kms in just one week, Delhi's very high temperature and me being completely out of form in doing long rides on bike for more than a decade are a few. But now I'm quite determined to do justice to my future services and maintain a more balanced time vs km ratio.

Hi Shek,

That's great, please do share.
I will be going to the Bombay dealer for Harley Davidson (Seven Islands) sometime next week. Will get clarity on our questions.

I could not attach the accessories file for 2014 due to size restrictions. It's a crazy exhaustive catalog of goodies

The people at the HD showroom are very customer friendly. I was given a test ride on the Iron, Street Bob and given a tour of the service facility as well. Met a Mr. Ajay from Sales and Mr. Rajesh who is the service head.

Cheers

Did the SA tell you what way your warranty would've been jeopardized if you had delayed the service by a month?

He said if you are not getting your service done on time and later you have a problem like say a battery with weak cells and needs replacement, the HD system shows the warranty as void because of delay in service. Interestingly he also said that if the kms are also way off even that leads to warranty issues.

they surely can show you the rule book and use that against you. But as Ram sir mentioned, if you have a good rapport with the dealer, all these are frivolous and they sure could be more accommodating. Anyway All's well that ends well!

now make up for lost time! Burn rubber!

Another milestone completed over this weekend! 9000 KMS on the ODO! Still everything works like a charm! Awesome power delivery! Long to munch more each time it gets parked after a ride!

Looking forward to the coveted 5 figure mark and earn the patch!!

Good going!
even I am looking forward to 20k patch , however I am yet to sport even the 10k one!

Feels good to collect the patched , exactly the reason why kids collected Figurine outa candy boxes.
Hope Someday I will get a Denim jacket stitched and put on a couple of patched!

6figure mark is still way down the road for me, I might build the motor couple of times before that , just for the Engine Porn!
