Good to know that you took the plunge and got it done outside. Well, all superbike ASC are almost same in their treatment to customers. They all have a range of issues with different degrees right from not having the right people on job, parts availability to even having basic tools to carrying out a simple job

And, they have the gall to charge a bomb for this myopic attitude towards their customers

Well, I have done something risky with my bike outside the ASC and will be described in my ownership thread as soon as I get some free time. Well, we all know Kawasaki's brilliant support (Do read between the line please...LOL) towards their customers but, that does not faze me one bit.

I believe in finding my own solutions and not depend on them too much (at least till the engine freezes up on me)

Re: Servicing Costs of Superbikes / Sportsbikes in India

Servicing cost of Ninja 650. All the best Kawasaki India for the higher cost.
For example, the Air filter was around 1.8k and now it is around 2.5k. Very good

I am comparing the kawasaki servicing cost vs Honda servicing cost. The total parts cost of CBR 650f (Air filter + oil filter + other consumables) is less than the Air filter cost of Ninja 650. Just compare the bill I posted for the Ninja 650 and the bill posted for CBR 650f. There will be a justification saying that Honda collects that money upfront by higher pricing of the motorcycle itself. Fair enough, but what justification one can provide for the increase in the spare parts cost by 40 to 50% ??? There is also a debate on the exponential increase in the labour cost as well. I am also aware of a couple of Kawasaki owners who sold their bikes and went for a different brand just because of the huge increase in the maintenance cost. Is there a word to describe the way Kawasaki is selling the spare parts with high cost ? It’s better not to describe that.

On top of that, I was enlightened by the kawasaki Svc manager on the reason for higher spare parts cost. The enlightened information given by the manager is that both Ducati and Triumph India import low quality spares from China and Kawasaki India is the ONLY company which imports genuine quality spare parts from Thailand. Well, after hearing that justification, I got truly enlightened. Job well done Kawasaki bangalore

What was done on the chain and rear sprocket in this service? What mileage was this service at? The parts are expensive and the labour costs even more so!

Close to 4000 for changing the air cleaner including parts! Kawasaki is a very expensive proposition!

I replaced the entire chain sprocket set. Fortunately I got the DID chain set from Amazon which came around 11k. If I got the chain set from Kawasaki, it would have been close to 24k.

It is a regular service done every 6 months and the odo was around 23,000 kms. Nothing special was done for that service except for the chain, air filter and regular engine oil replacement. The other thing was that Bangalore Kawasaki didn’t have riveting tool to use the rivet link that came with the DID chain set. Instead, they used pin type master link that is used for pulsar bikes. One of our TBHPians advised me to revert back to rivet type master link as there was an incident with Versys using pin type link. The service engineer was even telling me not to worry as they had used the pin type link (meant for pulsar) even for z800s. Kawasaki India is providing me a world class service centre by stocking genuine quality spare parts and by also not having a rivet tool. Great job IKM. Looks like even I can open a service center for Kawasaki and start providing service.

Sounds like your bike is close to the end of the warranty period. Did they threaten to void it because of the sprocket not being a 'genuine' spare?

Have you identified an independent workshop for the future?

I shudder to think of the costs associated with the Z900!

The warranty period was already over and so I had no issues installing DID chain set. In fact the Service centre didn’t have the Ninja 650 chain set in their inventory.

I have got a very good feedback about Indimotard (Bangalore). In fact I took my bike there for removing the clip type master link and install the rivet master link for the chain. I am thinking of getting my bike there for the next scheduled service. One good thing is that the Bangalore Service centre is ready to sell the spares over the counter on providing a written undertaking that Kawasaki is not responsible for any damage caused to the vehicle due to wrong installation of the spare parts by the unauthorized personnel.

For the regular spare parts like oil filter, air filter, etc., Z900 spare parts costs should be almost the same as the ones on any of the other smaller sized kawasaki bikes. New Kawasaki owners can confirm on this.

Re: Servicing Costs of Superbikes / Sportsbikes in India

My Daytona 675 got its regular service today.

Parts (oil, Castrol Power 1 Racing 3.5 liter) : INR 3390
Oil filter : INR 680
Misc washer/seals : 100
Chain clean + lube : 170 + 170

Labour : 2400 + 18% GST = INR 2832

Total bill amount added up to INR 7312.

Previous service cost was some INR 6400. So post-GST, service cost has gone up by a grand.

My detailed 1st Service Report of my 2018 Kawasaki Ninja 1000 is posted here - http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/superb...ml#post4307426

Total Service Cost was Rs. 4,869.98p including Spares/Oil cost of Rs. 3,807.98p and labour charges of Rs. 1,062/-

Damn good for a litre class bike I would say.

Cheers...

Absolutely.

I paid a 1st service cost of Rs. 4746.14/- for my Versys 650, which included Motul 300V engine oil for Rs 1808.75/- and oil filter for Rs. 563.55/- whereas labour charges were Rs. 1635.55/-

Not to mention that this was during the Bajaj days when service charges were supposedly less.

Just a suggestion based on my personal research, try using Motul 7100 instead of 300V for the Versys. It is better suited for your touring needs, longer life, more protection, more compliant with the catalytic converter and cheaper even though it's still 100% synthetic. 300V should be used only on Race Track bikes for which it is purpose built.

7100 is absolute crap, having used it over 24k kms myself. I agree with you about 300v usage.

I recommend a shift to shell ultra fully synthetic or mobil 1. Difference is night and day now.
