Re: Mahindra Scorpio : Issues & Solutions

Self healing update for my speedometer needle jumping issue. I went to the service center to check if the appropriate part is available. The technician went under the car to take a picture of the part, may be in the process he touched/tightened/pushed/did something and guess what, the problem is now sorted. I have driven a few hundred kilometers and no jumping of the needle at all. So once again proved that it's not always required t repair/replace a part but wait for some time to get the self healing. Maybe a little nudge/tightening will be beneficial.

2009 Scorpio VLX Issues

Hey Folks,

I have 2 issues (which I feel are interconnected) with the my 2009 Scorpio VLX model.

1. This a strange issue - When I take the car above 120 for some time the AC vents stop giving out air. The AC is working as inside the vents are cold and the noise from the blower is ON. But cold air does not come into the cabin and in 5 min the whole cabin becomes hot.

2. The tyre sensors in the dashboard are always blinking. I attribute the same to a low voltage coming from the alternator. The low voltage was confirmed by one of the guys when he was trying to program a new remote lock for the car.

One of the local garages had tried rectifying the alternator but I guess this was before the observation in (2). So, either the job was not well done or something else.

The problem (1) is a bit irritating as I cannot drive beyond a certain speed limit. I was thinking of taking to a Mahindra service station but I wanted to be well-informed before getting into the mess of Mahindra service.

Any observations or reco(s) are welcome.

AC work most of the times is done best at an AC specialist, I know of one - Aditya Car AC, they are very good at their work as I have experienced. Give it a try.

Alternator is fully serviceable however needs to be done at a competent place, else best to purchase a new one.

Please send me the details of the AC guy. The problem is difficult to reproduce and needs driving fast on the highway.

Will check on the alternator as well this time. I think better to get it done from a Mahindra showroom

A previous thread for reference.

Link to thread. (Bangalore : Please suggest a Good Workshop to repair A/C)

Just google Aditya Car AC, I have visited them in Koramangala, they have one in Rajajinagar as well.

.
I think your evaporator coil is getting iced up. Just to check that it is the case, try switching off the compressor (AC Switch) and turning it on after a couple of minutes. Remember to keep the fan ON.

Once done, the ice should melt and you should get back the cold air.

In that case, what is wrong would be the AC Pressure Switch, dirty evaporator coil, or may be even low refrigerant in some cases.

Hey Dhanush thanks for the lateral suggestion. Does high speed increase the cooling? Because if it does not then I can try running the AC at full blast during a city ride and check whether I am able to repro the problem but this suggestion is noted.

Re: 2009 Scorpio VLX Issues

For problem #1, get an AC service centre to remove, wash and refit the cooling coil. The dashboard will need to be taken apart, and the gas will have to be recharged. A full day's job, so don't fret about it, or the expense. The cooling coil may need replacement if it fails a pressure test after cleaning.

For problem #2, have the TPMS sender (sensor) units in all wheels replaced. The batteries are running down (after 13 years that is expected), and are not replaceable, so the whole unit in each wheel needs replacement.

@moderators: kindly merge this thread with this one (Mahindra Scorpio : Issues & Solutions).

Looks like an easy fix. Check your AC vacuum check valve, looks like a T(3 way valve). It is resetting to defrost position which makes inside warm.

Re: Mahindra Scorpio : Issues & Solutions

Hi All, The stop light of my rear spoiler (Scorpio Mhawk 2009) has lost a few of the bulbs. As per the manual the are mentioned as W2,3W (2.3 Watt and T5 glass type wedge base) and I am unable to source them at Hyderabad. Any pointers will be of great help from Hyderabad/Bangalore locations. Thanks in advance.

BTW, update to my speedometer issue, had to finally source the original sensor, which took a few weeks and got it fixed (5 mins job) and now all is good.

Try replacing the AC relay from relay box. I was facing a similar problem in my XUV. When driving over broken roads my Cooling used to get stop and SVC attributed it to faulty Relay. Problem solved in mere 150₹.

Re: 2009 Scorpio VLX Issues

Guys thanks for your suggestions.
The complete change of the Compressor helped and now the car flies at 160 with AC working fine.
Recent Goa trip (December end) helped in testing of (1).

For the (2) reason that local guy requested me to go to Mahindra showroom and get it checked.
That is Work in Progress.

I was also facing the same issue on my mahindra scorpio 2012 Vlx automatic, I was very confused and wanted to rebuild the low and high pressure pump but a mechanic who's also a friend changed the hand pump, the pump which is just right on top of the disel filter. This totally solved the issue.

Great post Sudipta! I am a firm believer in this old adage - an unconscious nudge or tap at an unsuspected critical spot miraculously rectifies a long pending niggle. I've had this experience with our own Scoroio (the original GLx, which we ran for 1 and a half decade) on several occasions, mostly with electrical gremlins, like the speedo issue with you.
