Pankaj, clutch replacement at 24k kms seems a little premature. Replacing the cable should be enough to get rid of the hard 'clutch'. I am on my original clutch after 52k kms, and I am no gentle driver.

@honeybee, yes this is what I thought too that 24k kms is too less for clutch to be replaced. Changed just the clutch cable at first, however it did not solve the 'hard' clutch problem for some reason. So, SA @TASS advised to replace with new 'kit'.
I was used to the hard clutch all this while. However, my wife has started learning on Nano recently, and she was having a tough time in disengaging the clutch. Hence, went ahead and replaced, with no second thoughts .

Re: TATA nano - List of ALL issues

1. From all the posts regarding hard clutch problems I have concluded that I should wait more before I decide to change the clutch assembly. I have also noticed that sometimes the Clutch becomes normal and sometime it becomes harder. Since the car is giving mileage of more than 21 kmpl consistently I feel everything is working fine.
2. Now friends, in my area I have found a Nano which had a front crash and got scrapped The car's interiors are in perfect conditions including the side mirror. Its parts are available with the scrap dealer. I went there to check if I can get something for my Nano as the Year of make and model is same that of my Nano ( lx 2011) Now my question is shall I buy the clutch parts too for my future use or which part I may need to keep in backup as its rare to get. I am thinking to buy a rim as it may get bent sometime. Guys please suggest!

I have never run into a situation when I couldn't find a specific part anywhere for the Nano. Most of the things are available with TASS or 99rpm or your good old local aftermarket shops.

Having said that, I think you should try to see if you need some part for your car that is available only as a subpart of a larger assembly. One example that comes to mind is the lid/cover of the 12V outlet; if you somehow manage to lose the lid, you would have to replace the entire unit.

A few other examples which I faced :
1) The knob for switching between inside/outside air conditioning.
2) The flaps of the air conditioning vents.

Both of which broke off in mine. They said that I have to replace the entire AC unit to fix this.
So I lived with external air circulation and individually adjustable flaps for the last two years till I got the new GenX. Now it is freezing inside with fan at 1 and AC not even at the coldest position. Seriously the air cooling is too much in the nano.

3) Central locking also failed for one of the rear door locks. Again they said the entire locking system has to be replaced. Since I mostly travel solo, it was not an issue.

This rang a bell. Was it not covered under warranty? My rear left central lock works around 40% of the times at the moment and I can definitely see it failing sometime in the future. I have also read about this issue earlier in this thread here, as well as met another Nano owner at the TASS in Gurgaon this March with the same concern.

I wonder if this is a widespread problem across many Nanos.

I face this problem during rainy season only. All other time it works perfectly. The rear left door lock was replaced twice, still same problem persists.

We are treating it as child lock now , unique feature of Nano during rains

I face this issue in my Nano too. I have a 2012 LX model, and the rear door locks don't unlock when the driver side door is unlocked. This happens only in monsoons

I face the same problem during monsoon. I take it to the local mechanic, who doesn't charge for this.
This year, passenger front door wasn't opening during monsoon. It needed some grease, and got that fixed too from the same mechanic. Paid him Rs 100/- as can't expect him to do everything for free

Re: TATA nano - List of ALL issues

I faced a weird problem yesterday. I have 12V socket fitted in the nano. I was using it yesterday and while pulling out the charger it just dismantled. I went to my electrician friend and got it reconnected.

But there is no supply to the wires now. He checked the fuse (CIGAR 10A written on FUSE MAP sticker below steering, 2nd right from centre). Fuse is OK but there is no supply. He tried his best and in the end just made sure that no wires are shorted.

We concluded that I have to show this to service centre now as they were the one who originally fitted it. I want a piece of advice from fellow bhpians, can I take this to some car decor shop as they can also fix 12V socket issues or go to service centre as I suspect some electrical issues behind this.

If some bhpian is there in or around Kalyan West, can you help me out please. I need this 12V socket activated as I use it to charge my devices frequently.

Re: TATA nano - List of ALL issues

Hi guys

There is a repetitive problem that keeps cropping up again and again in my 2014 Nano. The bolts that connect the silencer to the gearbox housing keep coming off. I have gone to the TASS to get it fixed thrice already and each time they have installed new bolts (for Rs 300).

Yesterday after my 30k service one of these bolts came off again (and the other one became loose) and I went to Dhingra motors in Gurgaon to get it looked at. Unfortunately the SA who usually oversees my car was on a weekly off so the issue could not be resolved as I would go there another time.

In the meantime, anyone has a clue why these bolts keep coming off? Is there a way to permanently fix these bolts in their place?

As a result of the loose bolts, the silencer of the car becomes very noisy.

Here is a photo I took today. Notice the missing bolt and the loose bolt below it.

Update: I got our nano serviced from Concorde motors, Baner on 12th September. Service quality is good. Unfortunately they also could not fix this issue, the socket was not operational when I received the car in evening.

Got it fixed the next day from a car decor shop opposite darshan hall, chinchwad city. Reason was a blown fuse. Called up Concorde Motors and told them it has been fixed. Service adviser is still suspicious hence agreed to send someone to verify.

Still unclear what could have caused the issue. If someone can put focus I will be delighted. As of now 12V socket is operational .

Re: TATA nano - List of ALL issues

I am facing a strange issue from past one month, the problem has gotten worse with time :

Initially, when I slotted in first or reverse gear and by mistake used to leave clutch suddenly, there was a loud thud noise from engine, it was similar to the noise which comes when the car has a under body hit. The problem has grown with time, now the engine is vibrating more than before and there is loud noise (thus) when I leave the clutch (normally, not suddenly as I said before).

Now, at the last service the TASC guys told me that engine mounting A and C have gone bad, I in suspicion told them to leave it as it is. Could the issue be due to mountings?

I think the accidental clutch release has taken its toll. Please do the needful, as suggested by the service centre ASAP.

It seems so. Take a quick look at this discussion: http://forums.mg-rover.org/archive/i.../t-200880.html
