Re: Honda Amaze 1.5L Diesel : Driven

What's with the colour blue??The first set of 'scoop' pics also had a blue amaze!Anyhoo, a big thank you to my fellow bhpian RAVENAVI for the snaps of the interiors.first impressions??looks decent enough for a sub 4 metre sedan.Too much chrome IMO..maybe somebody told the designing team that indians love their bling!

..Honda needs to give one heck of a sweltering deal for this car to be a success. They must learn from Toyota Etios/Liva's mistakes where that model was not a runaway success even after promising a lot
Agreed!I think the powers that be at honda are aware of what's at stake here. They have got a lot riding on the amaze's success and this will directly have a bearing on their future products{mpv, mini suv and the new i-dtec honda city, which we all know about}maybe this will give an inkling about how serious they are..http://articles.economictimes.indiatimes.com/2013-02-21/news/37221496_1_diesel-sedan-petrol-cars-tapukara

off topic,i came across this video of the "modulo" update on the amaze showcased at a thailand auto expo..must say, loved the radiator grill

Thanks for the pics! Do you know if an AT will be offered at launch or later? And what trims can we expect for an AT?

Cheers!

AT will be in the petrol model only. No plans for AT in diesel planned.

Pictorial comparison between Amaze and Dzire for rear seat leg room and overall shape.

I think its a equal match.

umm,its a "little" unfair to compare the rear leg room of the two cars given the angle at which the snaps are taken, mate! Moreover, reviews across all media agree on this point..that the amaze has more rear legroom than the d'zire..

The two aspects where i see the d'zire trump amaze is on the pricing and the kit..don't wanna open a pandora's box on the looks because they are subjective and a certain d'zire owner won't take kindly to it..

Rear seat comfort is on par with the DZire. Legroom is just a tad better, no doubt due to the excellent space utilisation done by Honda engineers.

Unsparing use of chrome makes any car look positively gaudy.
Well, chrome dosage still holds a lot of appeal for the average Indian buyer. Honda should be forgiven for going the chrome route. They are trying their best to give the Amaze a good start, and they are banking on it's success as well.

In addition to all the bling-bling chrome already packed in the Amaze, there will be additional chrome fitments available as optional accessories. Wait till you see them!

AT variants are definitely on the cards. There might be a VX AT on offer, and if demand arises, we could have a S AT later as well (similar as the City's AT variants). No confirmation about the AT variant to be launched with the initial simultaneous launch yet. It might come in later, possibly on the date when they launch the Brio VX MT.

Rear leg room is a tad better in the Amaze, specially if you space out the front seats. But as far as interiors are compared, the DZire is definitely the more premium one. Remember that the Swift is comparatively more premium than the Brio, specially interior quality-wise. The Amaze carries over the Brio's interiors which don't feel premium - plastics are hard to the touch, seat fabric doesn't feel premium, the dual-tone beige used in the interiors is cheaper looking than the Swift/DZire's beige usage. That being said, fit and finish is excellent, interior space is good, overall it ticks most boxes for the Indian buyers. And it will come with a diesel heart + Honda reliability, two big pluses.

As regards the engines on offer, I think the 1.2L petrol might be a bit underpowered for the Amaze. The obviously better choice would be the 1.6L i-DTEC. Honda might pull out a big rabbit from the hat here, and unless they go the over-ambitious route and shoot themselves in the foot by pricing the Amaze beyond 8L for the top diesel variant, I see a big volume winner here for the Japanese company.

Is the difference NOT huge? I was thinking Amaze is much better in terms of space & probably in the Etios league! Or atleast some posts on the thread did take my impression to that level!

Having seen the car, would like to know what do you think is a good price for this car, compared to Dzire?

What I feel like is both Amaze and Dzire have similar level of interior space with the former making the better utilization of the same. Its not like Honda is having BIG advantage here (unlike Etios or Sail ). One more thing is the 'slenderized' front seats in Amaze generates more leg room at the back. This is atleast what I have noticed in Brio.

400 litres of boot is direct 80 litres higher than Dzire. It can be considered as good advantage to have.

Rest will depend upon how good the diesel engine is and how well they price the car.

Re: Honda Amaze 1.5L Diesel : Driven

Avi thanks for the exclusive scoop

Two things

a) This blue looks like a new color. Don't think the Brio offers this one.

b) Tastefully done alloys, much better looking than the current V variant of the Brio.

Hope the leg space at the rear is an improvement else it'll be doomed. Believe me in the Brio with two 5'10" people in the front, even averagely tall rear passengers find it difficult to ingress and later egress.

Any word on how the suspension setup is? Is it as soft as the Brio.

Nope. It's just a wee bit more in the Amaze. Etios has more space at the rear.

I would say 4.99L for the base petrol and 6.19L for the base diesel should be spot-on. VX(D) MT @ 7.59L could be killer for the DZire ZDI. Anything more and it will again be an example of over-ambitiousness by Honda. Hope they don't price it too high initially and kill the product, something which Ford did with the new Fiesta.

Mind you, the headroom and seating comfort is better in the DZire than the Amaze. The rear seat of the Amaze is thinner I felt, and it's a bit more low slung than the DZire. Seat comfort levels are very good, and the legroom is great. But it doesn't give off the feel of a big car like the DZire or the City when you open it's doors for the first time.

The boot space is definitely much more than most cars of it's segment. I dare say class-leading. It's B-I-G.

My pics don't do the blue color justice. It's similar to the Brio's Energetic Blue, but with more metallic shine. Refer to swiftnfurious's pics earlier in the thread for a better look at the blue color.

Leg space is definitely better than the Brio. Two people can sit comfortably and not feel fatigued over a long journey.

Suspension is stiffened, but GC is measured at 165mm. Underbody might scrape against breakers when the Amaze is fully loaded. A better opinion when I get to TD the Amaze by the end of this month.

Re: Honda Amaze 1.5L Diesel : Driven

Hi,

Looks like Amaze will be launched in both petrol and diesel versions simultaneously. This report claims that even the basic version will have ABS + EBD.

Thanks,
Prakash.

Re: Honda Amaze 1.5L Diesel : Driven

Looks are subjective, but in the case of Swift and Dzire - I feel the Swift looks better than the Dzire so if one does not need the rear dickey space get the Swift. In the case of the Brio and the Amaze though things are different. The Brio has a very different rear and that is something that is not to everyones liking, yes people who want the honda quality or the 5 speed AT have got around to accepting it over time though there will always we a fair number who actually love it, besides the Brio is only a petrol burner as yet. The Amaze hence in this case come out in my view looking better than the Dzire and Brio, though not the Swift and with more a appropriate engine than the lot.

Diesel AT will make it a killer combo if I may say so.

Re: Honda Amaze 1.5L Diesel : Driven

Looks like Honda is building up an inventory of 10,000 amaze sedans to flood the market, so that people don't have to wait. It points to an aggressive price target as the last thing they want is to be saddled with inventory and have to offer discounts or cut price within months of launch like SAIL UVA.

The Amaze surely looks quite the car. Honda has done a great job with the Amaze and it shows in the pictures. Thanks mate for the clicks. Kudos to Honda as well as you.

There is a small correction in that review. Amaze has FGT and not VGT as you will read in my review on page 1.
