This is an issue which I'm sure many owners face. It's a common complaint in cars like Baleno, Ignis, XL6, Ertiga etc which get glossy surface. The keys are thrown around in Yard, PDI section, showroom etc before it's handed over to the owner. It actually comes with a protective layer from factory, but it usually gets misplaced. This is the condition people get keys in:

Pic from some FB group(this car was delivered yesterday):

Keys of a friend's brand new Ignis:

Thankfully in my case, the car remained in PDI for very short time, and I had wrapped the keys crudely to avoid any more damage in their possession. Still, they had minor swirls.

My first car: 2020 Maruti Suzuki XL6 Alpha MT Review-20200818_210642.jpg

To avoid any damage in daily use, I was using a Sony pouch.

My first car: 2020 Maruti Suzuki XL6 Alpha MT Review-20200818_203050.jpg

However I was warned of dire consequences by my friends if I don't throw away that pouch. Hence I ended up buying some flashy looking NEXA Leather case.

My first car: 2020 Maruti Suzuki XL6 Alpha MT Review-20200818_194702.jpg

The case of minor swirls was always on my mind, and I wanted to try something. The area was so tiny that even tiny polishing machines with small backing plates would have been too large for it.

My first car: 2020 Maruti Suzuki XL6 Alpha MT Review-20201021_160653.jpg

I have a damaged finishing pad, and decided to use it for the purpose. I used a very fine Polish for the job, locked the switch at medium speeds, and held the key against the rotating pad. Be very careful since it can throw the key away if you are holding it lightly. I also kept rotating the key with my fingers, since that would ensure proper and even cutting from all directions.

After polishing, I had to remove the polish remains from the tiny grooves, was easily done with a soft bristle brush. Wiped it clean with IPA, and coated the shiny surface with Ceramic Coating. I had a bit of ceramic liquid left after my DIY on XL6(DIY post coming soon).

Results, one on the left is untreated. The piano finish isn't completely smooth and has dashboard plastic like texture on top. Still looks way better compared to scratched up fob:

I intend to buy a sober looking case once the NEXA one wears a bit. Looks like it was designed by Ranveer Singh himself.

Shashi

His Baleno is Petrol CVT.

All details have been given here: Link (My first car: 2020 Maruti Suzuki XL6 Alpha MT Review)

Fitment won't be an issue, but you should take a close look at the clearance from exhaust pipes and other parts. I'm not so sure about Diesel Baleno.

Shashi

While I'm not sure, prima facie you won't be able to install in cars like Ignis, WagonR or S Presso.

Reason:

In Baleno, Swift, Dzire, Ertiga, we have partially extending flanks on sides. The engine guard is held on sides by those flanks.

My first car: 2020 Maruti Suzuki XL6 Alpha MT Review-aaa.jpg

In Ignis, WagonR or S Presso which are on smaller version of Heartect platform, the flanks are missing on sides. So most likely you will have nothing to hold the engine guard from sides(assuming it fits well in front or rear).

This is why I had mentioned in my post:

Direct fit: Swift, Dzire, May be the Baleno also.
Similar fit as mine: Ertiga XL6.
S Presso, WagonR and Ignis won't be able to fit this, probably, since they miss the side flank covers(notice the pics)

Shashi

Now my collection of Hardcopy manuals for my XL6 is complete. While I had access to soft copy ones if needed, having physical book is emotionally so satisfying.

Do note that this is a Petrol vehicle with very less torque. So 5th/6th gear style overtakes/speed build @ 1700rpm doesn't work here!

Thank you Sashi, I am happy to report, I have got 16+ kmpl on the same road where I was getting 12 to 13 kmpl.

Hi Shashi, does the air output reduce after installing the PM 2.5 cabin filter?

Nice thread here Shashi.

Well, you have become an inspiration for me in maintaining cars well and in terms of DIY's on your Maruti 800 as well as your XL6.

And,congrats for buying S-Cross too. When can we expect the ownership review of the S-Cross?

Great work Prodigy07

I have a 2016 Baleno Delta petrol which is due for 40K service. I am also planning to get the engine underbody sheet. I have the part number of the engine sheet from Shashi's original post here
https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/test-...ml#post4875372 (My first car: 2020 Maruti Suzuki XL6 Alpha MT Review)

As yours is also a baleno, could you please share details of the other parts used eg. screws, clips, etc. was it a direct fit or did it require a bit of modification like in XL6? Did you get this done at Dealer workshop or FNG?

Did you also get the two small underbody Floor Covers under the footwell/front seats? I dont quite understand what they are for.
