Thank you for the quick response .

A totally noobie question - We need only one of the Iridium spark plugs right?

Regards

I didn't get your query entirely, but we need to change plugs of all 4 cylinders. So you need 4 pieces of Iridium Plugs.

Shashi

Dear Leoshashi and others who have updated the firmware, have you observed any feature reduction or cons?

1. More specifically, is the movie/video player and photo album viewer still working? I am able to play full movies such as Hobbs and Shaw etc. smoothly in version 1920.1 and do not wish to lose this feature.

2. The reverse cam display comes up very fast even if the HU is booting at the start. Hope this aspect remains the same even in new version.

I have seen feature deletion/mess up after updates so want to check some specific aspects before updating.

Thanks and regards.

I second your opinion. Although the update is said to be stable, I am yet to face any of the issues reported with the current firmware. Like they say, "Why fix it if it ain't broke".

Apologies for the stupid counter question, how do you play videos on HU? Kindly elaborate about formats etc also. I haven't gone through the Audio manual yet.

Regarding reverse cam boot time, it's as good as last version.

Shashi

Thank you guys for the prompt replies. I am also planning to wait as I have shifted away from Android auto to the CarPlay which is so much better. Android auto was freezing every now and then. Lets see.

Put some video songs or movies in a folder in your pen drive and connect it to the system. Wait for the library to build up and then hit the folder button just below the music player tile on the home screen.

You will see options such as albums, artists, photos, videos etc.

Video option will be greyed for 2-3 seconds after which it will change colour to white and you can open to see the available video files.

Click on any file to play your video. Tip: The screen is 480p so dont put 1080p or 4k videos as 720p videos play much smoother.

Videos play only if car is stationary and hand brake is pulled.

Sometimes full movie file being large in size plays with some frame rate drops for the initial 5-10 seconds.

I have played MP4 videos only and haven't tested others.

Taking inspiration from you, I intend to post a brief “how to” review on the SmartPlay Studio but havent been able to find time. There are some serious hidden features in this system that Maruti never highlighted unlike Hyundai Venue/Sonet where video player is a feature reserved for topmost variants.

Thanks a lot for bringing this to my notice. I immediately put 1080p file of Ford vs Ferrari and tried it on the HU. Absolute magic! Despite being a 1080 file, the playback was absolutely smooth.

Glad you also found this feature a welcome surprise. Haha.

I can relate to the memes and emotions. It was a surprise discovery for me as well. The pen drive I was using had a Hobbs and Shaw in it.

My reaction when I discovered this feature.

Giddy up giddy up giddy up.

Re: My first car: 2020 Maruti Suzuki XL6 Alpha MT Review

A Sunday well utilized: Cleaned and detailed the XL6 comprehensively. Apart from horribly designed alloys, even the grill is a pain to clean. Detailing brushes and some microfibers came to the rescue and I could complete the job successfully.

Looks like I had toiled a bit too much, the gloss out in the sun was insane!

Sorry to prolong the discussion regarding SmartPlay studio. I updated to the new firmware yesterday night in a hope of fixing the Android Auto experience.

The update went fine and I also did a factory reset post update as suggested by dear LeoShashi.

Today I observed that the reverse cam gridlines are gone. When I went into dealer mode, I saw the first option i.e. parking sensor status is also displayed as “off” although reverse sensors were working fine. I again did a factory reset and the parking sensor status option was now showing as “on” but the gridlines could not be enabled.

I do parallel parking here in mountains and have been keeping the distance till yellow gridline with the car behind me. This convenience was now gone.

Solution: If anyone else finds the same glitch after update, do the following:

1. Park the car and keep it in ignition on position without starting the engine.
2. Engage reverse gear.
3. Press the settings button (second from top on right side of the head unit) while the reverse gear is engaged and reverse camera feed is showing on the screen.
4. Reverse camera settings will show up on the head unit. You will see that the gridlines will be turned off. Turn them on here and you will be able to see the gridlines again.

Your PM surely worried me. Thanks for updating here as others may face this issue like your did. Weirdly I didn't face any issue when I updated the HU on my XL6, S Cross or friend's Alto.

Did you notice any difference in audio quality?

Shashi

Thank you for always replying to my queries promptly.

Regarding changes, the music is sounding just slightly better. Definitely a bit more balanced than before. I listen to rap/hip hop genre more than anything else so my music is bass heavy (stock speakers suck at that).

I am yet to test the android auto so I have no noticeable changes to report.

Thank you Sashi! Have been away from Tbhp for sometime and this was a good surprise getting back.

Quickly proceeded with the update, everything went fine. Except noticed the guidelines disappeared from rearview camera. @PaddleShifter post relieved me from my nightmare!

My biggest grouch about AA was music starting to play loudly on my phone instead of HU after ending a call via bluetooth. Will post an update later on this, if the update fixes it. Maps had frozen multiple times and now I am used to not look at it. Hopefully the map gets resolved too.

Thanks again!
