The KP35 is a single scroll unit i guess. It is also used in MJD, DDiS, Quadrajet, DCi.

Thats what even i had in mind, but a few people quoted that KP35 is a twin scroll. Wikipedia says otherwise though so i guess i'll assume its a single scroll tc.

re: Review: 1st-gen Ford Figo (2010)

I have done just more than 50k KM on my FIGO TDCI, time to change the OEM tyres.
Want to replace them with 185/65 R14 Energy XM2.

re: Review: 1st-gen Ford Figo (2010)

Last week we had a trip to down south (TVL) and back to attend a family function along with all my family members. We took 3 cars, 2 Figo TDCI and 1 Ritz VDI and 15 members.

Surprisingly all the 3 gave the same 17 kmpl. We maintained speed ~110 and occasional 130. Tyre pressure 33PSI on front and 36PSI on back

On return i got 19kmpl that was decent. I guess the quality of Diesel in Chennai is the culprit. Need to search for a better pump out here.

With 5 well built members on board and with full luggage, Figo TDCI behaves best till 110km/h and with good tarmac. Speed beyond 110 doesnt feel confident. On bumpy roads with full load the ride will get bouncy and makes the passengers uncomfortable.

Speed breakers and Pot holes needs to be taken very very carefully, even then i managed to hurt the under body thrice with those MASSIVE speed breakers on certain tolls (the one near TVL) and service roads.

Figo is good for 4 members with avg luggage to cater the uneven tarmac highways and massive speed breakers.

I switched to Osram NB+, This DEFINITLY improves the visibility but not earth shatterring difference. I felt confident to take the two-laned state highways TVL-Trichendur at nite. The driver of the other Figo with stock bulbs struggled a lot.

Brakes in Figo is average, mine is a ZXI. Stock tyres (MRF zv2k) doesnt gives confident at high speed cornering. Mine is just 18k and 1.5 years old. Need to wait for another 15k km to change the tyres with better quality and grip.

Michelin is good choice. I changed from MRF to michelins at 42K. No problems for the last 28k Kms. Had only one puncture till date. Touch wood!!!

Guys can someone tell me what's the engine oil grade for the ford figo? Is it 5W30? If so, what oil is the best(as in manufacturer. The car has run 1K kms till date).

Thanks @dhanush, I have changed the tires with 185/65 R14 XM2 yesterday. I feel that ride quality is superb, noise level is down compare to stock. They are quite stiff compare to Yoko.

re: Review: 1st-gen Ford Figo (2010)

Today I had wait for someone inside the car. I parked it under a tree and switched on the blower in fresh air mode at speed 3 and also the music system. After 40-45 minutes, I cranked the car but it refused to start even with all electricals off. Upon cranking, there was unusual sound from the self followed by several "clicking" sound. However I noted that all electricals were performing normally and there was no sign of weak battery. The Cabin light did not dim while turning on the headlights or horn. Also, there was no unusual indication in the instrument cluster. When I cranked, the digits in the MID rolled like disco which was unusual.

I suspected that the battery has drained and push started the car with help of two people. However the car started in just a minimal push of 3-4 meters, I was surprised that how running a fan and music system for about 40 minutes could drain the battery?

After the start, the car was perfectly normal and after 2 kms, it stalled (the famous stalling issue while pressing the clutch) and I was able to restart the car normally by using the key/self. I reached home after a 12 km drive and didn't try to restart the car again.

The car is September 2010 1.4 TDCI EXI run 22000 kms.

I have few questions for you guys:

1. What is the battery life of OEM motorcraft battery?
2. Is it that easy for a 2.5 year + battery to drain in above mentioned situation?
3. Do I need to replace the battery?
4. Is OEM battery available in open market? Cost??
5. Can I install a different make/size battery given the limited space in the engine compartment?

Sounds like the battery as I have experienced the same , apart from the starting trouble.
I checked with an ex-Ford mech and confirmed the Motorcraft battery life is around 3 years. I have a Aug 2010 model with loads of electrical accessories and I wont be surprised if my battery gives up anytime.

Motorcraft battery should be available with Ford itself and you can go for a different make as well. The warranty will be over soon, so no issues there unless you are going for 4th year.

Before replacing, do check the battery charge at a battery shop or with Ford itself and go ahead. 3 years battery life is the usual for most of the vehicles.

Regards

re: Review: 1st-gen Ford Figo (2010)

Talking of OEM batteries, my Fiesta's battery lasted me 5 years, 3 months. It was an Amaron battery of a special kind that is sold to Ford. There was no inscription on it to say it was an Amaron, but Ford A.S.S. confirmed that to me.

I replaced it in an Amaron shop last year for a rate that was much less than at Ford.

I guess that the upper clamp which holds the battery in place won't be able to accommodate battery of a different size. The motorcraft one is small and squarish in shape. Other brands are rectangular in general!

I hope that the drainage/weak battery issue never crops again at least for this year.

Yes, for TDCI it is 5W30. Ford get is from Castrol. But I don't think Castrol sells this particular oil in open market. Atleast not till the last time researched. I think 5W30 is available from Gulf only in the open market.

The blower surprisingly takes up a sizable share of the battery. After market ICE with good bass does the same.. and, 45 minutes is a lot of time asking from the battery.

If you refrain from these stuff, the same battery will last you a year or even more.

5W30 is available with Shell & Motul, but not available in most shops.
