if you are referring to the chop job merc, i'd say blowing away the money is a better option!

A word of caution: pre 70's mercs are increasingly becoming very hard to restore. Non avalibilty of parts locally and also very very expensive parts from abroad is probably the reason people restoring and selling Mercs pre 60's are starting to quote prices which seem over the top.

Bear in mind if the car is original, and has everything on it, the owner has spent a bomb on the restoration. I know from experience.

So if you are looking to start on a classic look for something easier.

Here is a sample list of prices for some of the parts on a Ponton.

Set of tyres origina size whitewall: 75k
Engine overhaul: 100K
Suspension overhaul: 50K
Rubber Kit: 100K
Original Hub cap 5k each
original Cosmetics: 30K atleast
Headlight set 20K atleast

I can go on and on.

But the bright part is everthing is available brand new from mercedes so if you have deep pockets, Best of Luck.

I have some news for you guys, there is a municipality yard here in Coonoor and there are quite a lot of vintage cars in them. Trucks, bikes, cars, tractors et all. Unable to click any pictures as the garage door is locked. Will try to get some pictures, anyways.

AFAIK, there is a Bedford truck and a Morris minor. If anyone of you are interested to pick up any of these cars get in touch with me. Will try to help you guys lay hands on them. The least I can do to see these beauties get restored.

Does anyone know of a W108 convertible in India? I hope its not a myth like the 300SL Gullwing
I have been told about this car lamenting away in a garage for the last 15 years without use, somewhere in the north east. I have my doubts. I have been offered the car but not until i know what it is and if it does actually exist. Pics are on the way he says in a week or so.

If so, what should be the price? Given it might be the only of its kind in India. Also dont know whether its a W108 or a W109 convertible i.e. a 280 or a 300. Im exited. If anyone knows about such a car please let us know. Something tells me I might not even be able to afford it.

Well if it is a 300SL gullwing then the price according to the international market would be more than Rs 2 .5crores.This car has a fuel injection system,3.0l engine, straight 6.Once the car was made they realised that the car was too low for the eninge so they put the engine at a 45 degree tilt. This car is worth a fortune if it is actually a 300sl gullwing.Gogiji please could you enquire the reason for sale and the condition of the car.Would be interested in knowing about the car doing something about it as well. This is how it would look if it is a 300 SL gullwing. Please also find out the year.
