This is not a Nissan nor a Ural. I think this is a ZIL 131 which is also from Russia. I do not know of the connection between URAL and ZIL. But look at the pictures, and you will see that the wheel arch / fenders / wheel well is different between the Senn truck and that of Ural, it matches more to the ZIL 131.

Yep Manish its a ZIL 131. Btw ZIL 131 and Ural 375D share similar components.

AFAIK, the name Jonga does not figure in the name of this truck. These trucks were assembled in India for military use and then disposed of. Whether these trucks were petrol engined I do not know, but engine and front axle were commonly replaced with Tata products. The Jonga was petrol engined for sure.
Also, in Delhi these were very common used to carry sand and construction materials. Subsequently banned because of polution.

Cheers harit

Yes they share the same underpinnings, but do you know the relation between them? And I know of URAL connection with Indian Military, do you have idea on ZIL connection with India Military

The truck that you have posted here still ply the Chennai roads, the looks are indeed scary. I can be wrong here, but my memory says that the steering of this truck is angled at around 75 degrees and there is hardly any space for the driver to squeeze in.

This is about the Dodge that was used by the veteran Sant Gadge Baba of Amravati (Maharashtra) to travel around. It has been restored and is to be handed over to the Sant Gadge Baba Samadhi Temple Trust at Amravati today.
The Amravati University is named after the Sant.Incidentally, our President's home town is Amravati.

Re: The Classic Commercial Vehicles (Bus, Trucks etc) Thread.

Hello,

Yesterday i spotted a water tanker on Solapur road, Pune which looked like a an old Tata truck which has the engine in front the driver's cabin. Dont know what that type of construction is called. Also there were round head lamps fitted on both mud guards. The picture attached shows a similar truck. The registration no. was BYW. It was raining so couldnt take any pics. Any idea on the make and year?

The BYW (Bombay State registration) truck will have to be a pre-1960 Tata Mercedes Benz truck. The three pointed star would be a prominent feature on its front grille and the Merc logo atop its front end was also prominent. It would have had a single windscreen, lower ground clearance and the width would have been a wee bit lesser than its successor. You have posted a picture of the TELCO made Tata 1210 truck that came sometime in the mid 1960's (1966 if I am not mistaken). The Merc collaboration with TELCO was passe and the brand became Tata in 1966.

Thank you anjan sir for the information. The picture was for just a rough idea. All i am sure about is the BYW registration. There were no logos present on it. And it actually looked little narrow than usual trucks. Hope i get to see it again so that i can get a picture.

Re: The Classic Commercial Vehicles (Bus, Trucks etc) Thread.

That model would be the Tata 1210D, ultra rare now in cities like Mumbai. Some days ago I saw a Tata 1210D that had Tata and Mercedes badges in Mumbai, it had a Maharashtra registration and was ex-Municipal truck but looked very sparingly used since all the logos and rear tail-lights, everything was quite intact. Sadly It was broken up in the next 2-3 days.
