Amol, how can you tell from here that this is a MB 220S only?

We cannot tell with 100% surity that it is a 220S. Could be a 300? The upper most fintail? But 220S more likely as these were common. This car has the double bumpers, seems to have had the broader tail lights and does seem to have had the oblong headlights, not the rounded one. This is certainly not the shorter car, 180/190/200, but the bigger S class. This has some value, depending on the engine sitting in her.

Why not a W112? Unless you have had a look at the suspension of that vehicle

Depending upon the engine it could be a 220, 220S, 220SE and i think the 230S too.

The rims though look like those of a 220.

My guess its a W111/112 220, 1959 - 61 year.

Also there is a mention here of Nehru having owned an Adenauer Mercedes. Can this be confirmed?

THE LIST of names that have been associated with the Mercedes Benz (MB) 300 “Adenauer” limousine reads like a gallery of the rich and famous: Queen Elizabeth II, King Baudoin of Belgium, Emperor Hirohito, Charles de Gaulle, Nikita Kruschev, John F. Kennedy, Dwight Eisenhower, Jawaharlal Nehru, Muhammad Ali, Yul Brynner, Clark Gable, Bing Crosby, Judy Garland, Gary Cooper, and even Ferdinand Marcos.

This car is either an interstate transfer or a TR import as the reg is knew. Unless they are assigning new numbers for cars that were off the road and back taxes were due?

A Mercedes 170 A 1938

Here is a pic of a 170 A that I have known for over 35 years, it belonged to a dear friend who, sadly, passed away suddenly about 10 days back. I was in Jamshedpur to see his mom last week and reluctantly took this, distant and discreet, shot as a memento. There is also his mom's white Buick and a Roller (a late 40's Silver Ghost, from memory, as these were under wraps). In the foreground and under wraps is his 60's VW Karmann Ghia.

Don't fail to note the unique reg number, this guy had great taste and passion for the classics. When I go again in late Nov, I hope to take some pics of his other cars and post them.

Hey there.

That sure is a nice Merc. Please do try to post more pictures of it and the other cars.

The Rolls would be a Wraith if it is from the late 1940's as the Ghost was long out of production by then.
