@agspins: Lovely pictures ! The buildings (Kishinchand Chellaram, and the one in the last pic), look so fabulously Art-Deco - they could've been in South Mumbai
I'm loving this thread more and more !

The car looks like a DeSoto taxi (white plates, BMT regn). The bracket to hold the plate appears to be ahead of the plate interestingly.

Yes....that is teh reason why there are so many WW2 Willys and Ford Jeeps around.

When they left the didn't take any of the Jeeps back with them instead sold thme on to the Indian Army and to private owners.

And also many Yank trucks/lorries, like Chevys, Fords etc. that eventually became transport vehicles.
There was an interesting online article I'd read once about a WW2 chevy truck that was left by the US army post the war and was bought as a goods carrier, eventually relegated to a garbage truck, to be banned by the KA state govt's drive on old public vehicles. It was written in the form of an autobiography! I forgot which site I found it on.

Those are some really great pictures, moralfibre. Especially the 'behind the scenes' ones from the true era of Bollywood - very classy!!!
Keep them coming.

P.S. Rajesh Khanna was known to have rode an Impala for the first day of his first shoot ever. I've been hearing this one since many years now, can anyone confirm the authenticity? If yes, which year car was it and does it survive today?

Impex India looks like it may be in Opera House area.

BMX 5515, parked below Bombay House at Flora Fountain.

The white building appearing in two pics.....? I wonder. could it be the Asiatic Library at Old Customs?

The Shoe house at Kasturba Gandhi Park opp. the Hanging Gardens

The two gents on some sea front where one can see steamers belching their smoke is definitely not Bombay or Madras or Calcutta. At no time did/does the weather in these places warrant/ed wearing layers of clothing. Maybe somewhere abroad.

The college group pic, mast probably the Wilson or Xavier's college, as they have those arched driveways. Then again it could be the University and by the looks of the age in the group, it looks more like a batch of teachers/professors posing rather than students.

Love the pics of the Baba. Loves his cars, his people, travels in style (by air back then and in a Merc), and is camera friendly Loves pointing at people, Pointer Baba.
