In 1973 in Rawalpindi, my cousin and myself ran into a couple who were short on money and we stuck a deal for their Citroen 2CV for Rs 6,000. The car was a delight and gave years and years of service before being sold off for Rs 85,000 in 1998!!
Were you a flower power person too in those days smoking funny things ??

Not any of my family's albums but definitely nostalgic all the same. 'found these in a flickr album, lovely old photos of Bombay circa 1950.
I guess the car behind the Buick 8 in the Ambassador hotel pic. is an Austin?
And I think the car parked by the kerb (left) in the pic. showing the hawker and churchgate station on the left is a 46 plymouth?
And the white car on the right in the other churchgate station photo is a prewar buick?

Fantastic pictures. Do share the link with us.

At the Ambassador the car doesn't look like an Austin to me. I would think a larger Standard like a 12 perhaps. I am just speculating.

The car in the 2nd picture appears to be a 46-48 Chevy, in the 3rd picture it is something rarer, maybe a Pontiac. The last picture could be of a 39 Buick or even Caddy.

Cedric, our own sabinesnubbing sent me a link from ebay,

INDIA Old PhotoGraph Vintage CAR Number Plate on eBay, also Original Photos, Automobilia, Transportation, Collectibles (end time 15-Jun-09 12:37:26 BST)

Have a look, it is a very old photo with a car having a BOM registration.
Now the funny part, I have the identical old photo, not a reprint and one more of the same car which I am posting herewith.
I talked with Magneto about this, he suggested that I check if I still have my picture. I did check and I still have it.

Cheers harit

Come to think of it, yes I would hazard a guess of it being an early post-war flying standard (12 or 14) - the roof was a bit rounded on these ones.

Recently I got this photo. Very big car, unfortunately too many people around. I would guess a Caddy, but look forward to any comments.

Cheers

Recently I got this photo. A very big tourer, something regal or even royal. See the large headlights. Any clues to the people or car?

Cheers harit

Somehow I never saw Caddys with those large centre hubs in the wheels. Buicks and Chevys were seen with them, but I doubt Caddys. Just my 2 bits, subject to correction.

Attached is another picture of a landmark in Mumbai, with a car near it. The car is a Wolsley, BMZ 5500 this car today belongs to Nitin Dossa. Earlier she belonged to a Parsi family on Nepean Sea road, next to the Hotel Residency.
But can you make out where this picture was taken? The building in the background may provide a clue.

Cheers harit
