Got brake discs skimmed & pads changed on my Mahindra XUV700

The service center used Procut machine which didn’t require removal of discs for skimming

BHPian A.G. recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

General inspection before a trip (Rear Brake Pads changed)

Before heading out on a family trip, it was wise to get the XUV7OO also inspected. Visited the post-Diwali break and upon inspection, the rear brake pads were found to be almost at the minimum thickness mark. With the trip ahead, got them changed. The Brake discs were also suggested to be skimmed to even out the minor undulations. I was pleasantly surprised that the service center used a Procut machine which didn’t require the removal of discs for skimming and performed the job in hardly 10 minutes on one disc.

Getting on the lift

Old Brake pads (Rear) - thickness was around 3mm

With new Brake pads

Product disc skimming machine in action

Skimming done

After the road trial, the general checks were performed and the air filter was cleaned. The total invoice came to Rs. 7,503/- with Rs. 1,350/- + taxes being charged for skimming and the rest being for rear brake pads.

My XUV700 AX7 gets a software update: 12 observations after 2 weeks

Infotainment has become peppy and more responsive and seems more attuned to touch now than earlier.

BHPian IamNikhil recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

Recently updated the software of my XUV700 AX7 P AT. Few observations after two weeks:

  1. Software version is now 10.27.62
  2. Rear Parking Sensors went for a toss. An error crops up showing two "X" signs on the MID when you slot into reverse.
  3. The Reverse Camera has become crisp and lag-free.
  4. Infotainment has become peppy and more responsive and seems more attuned to touch now than earlier.
  5. There's still a noticeable lag between pressing the steering controls to bring up the MID menu to the menu appearing on the screen.
  6. The Mappls interface is easy to use.
  7. GPS takes a lifetime to load once you start driving. Enter your destination, press start and then forget about it. Drive for 10-15 mins and then finally the actual navigation will begin. This could be attributed to the unreliable Vodafone e-SIM. The network is displayed as full, but still no luck.
  8. There was an instance wherein for the exact same route, Google Maps and Mappls were showing different timings; the time taken by Mappls was exactly an hour more than Google Maps.
  9. When you connect Apple Carplay, there are times when the volume pane freezes on the screen. Volume level can be increased or decreased by the rotary knob or steering controls, however no change on the display.
  10. The sound quality of streaming through Apple Carplay has definitely improved.
  11. Alexa has gone on a long vacation. Tried the tactic of disconnecting the battery terminal, but to no avail.
  12. Fuel efficiency seems to have slightly improved; though this is not directly attributable to the software update.

Will have to visit ASC again to rectify the rear parking sensors and get Alexa to work again.

My XUV700's engine fails after just 4000 km: Spends 25 days in workshop

Changed the engine, but vibrations can still exists in the inner cabin of my SUV.

Thanks to Amit for sending this in. Heartfelt gratitude for sharing it with other enthusiasts via this Team-BHP share page!

I encountered a failed engine of my XUV700 after running only 4,000 km. My engine oil was dipping as I checked it after 3,800 km but ignored it at once but after running 200 km more, it started dipping even further. Realising the seriousness, I visited the nearest service centre in Noida and upon a thorough check-up found oil in the spark plug - an investigation started and these people came to the conclusion that the engine was problematic and had to be replaced with a new one.

Want to share more if you post it on your page and please let me know how to connect for more information.

Update: Observed low oil level after 4K km and rushed to the service centre to find out that the oil was coming onto the spark plugs. On further investigation, SC said that the engine had to be changed - they changed it and I received my car back with a vibration in the inner cabin which still exists in my car. Got it after 25 days at the service centre, but not happy at all with Mahindra's service. Came to know about more failed engines from the same registration month i.e. Jan 2022. The vibration in the inner cabin is unpleasant and SC is not able to understand why it is happening in spite of changing so many parts mentioned in the bill.

Upgraded from an XUV500 MT to an XUV700 D AT: Here's how they compare

XUV500 had lots of storage space in front which is non existent in XUV700.

BHPian Joy73US recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

In 2011, I was among the first few XUV500 customers of Ghaziabad, UP. I graduated from Santro to XUV but it was a smooth transition and within a few days, I was moving it across all streets and across states. During that period, I enjoyed the celebrity status when people use to drive crazy and honk just to request us for a look at the vehicle and we duly obliged them, most of the time.

The XUV500 had its own share of niggles but we really enjoyed every drive. Didn't feel tired even after driving more than 1000 kms. in a day.

Then came the dreaded NGT order and I had to sell it off in December 2021. Since I had the experience of dealing with Mahindra, I was confident about the mechanical part but electrical/electronics, doesn’t want to take risks, even after 10 years of ownership. Finally, I booked my XUV700 AX5 on the very 1st day of the launch.

The long wait for delivery and the challenges to live without any personal vehicle. Thankfully I used to do cycling and I kept on using it to visit nearby areas. In March’2022 I started getting updates on my vehicle and realize it could be delivered in April.

In April 2022, I got the call from the dealer that my vehicle is on its way and I should arrange for funds. Unfortunately the same day I got diagnosed with cancer, again ☹. All joy of getting a new vehicle went kaput and priorities of life changed instantly.

I apprised Mahindra and the dealer about my health conditions and requested that my booking can be put on hold. For the next 4 months, I was in bed barely speaking a few words and contemplating how unpredictable this life is. Gradually started getting my strength back and decided to re-live our life….again.

In December 2022, with the exorbitant cost of treatment and medicines, we were indecisive about whether to still continue with our XUV700 booking or look at other alternatives. Visited many showrooms to check small to medium size vehicles but none of them impressed any of the family members. Finally, XUV700 was our unanimous choice.

Being in NCR, we also had to make a choice, to go for either Petrol or Diesel, but since we decided to re-live our life and to cover the entire North, Central, South and Western India, Diesel became the defacto choice.

Based on these discussions, requested Mahindra to reallocate my vehicle. A few reminders and I got a confirmation from the dealer that a vehicle has been allotted to me but unfortunately it was allotted at the current price, not the introductory price.

Few email exchanges, meeting with the dealer sales team and I got the assurance from the sales team that they will do everything possible to get me an introductory price.

A couple of months passed and in April’2023, I got the much-awaited call, sir your preferred color Silver isn’t available but if you agree shall we offer you Everest White with an introductory price. What else I would have said…I gladly accepted the offer.

Now the decision was to be made if I should go with UP14 or BH registration. Did some calculations as UP14 registration gets calculated on the current ex-showroom price while BH registration cost is calculated on what you have actually paid. Completed the necessary documentation and applied for BH registration.

Finally, the day arrive to take the delivery. We got our Everest White XUV700 AX5 DSL AT 7STR, in May 2023.

Standard accessories installed from the dealer – 1) Side Steps, 2) Reverse Camera 3) Door Visors 4) Film on MID screen 5) Mud Flap, 6) Illuminated Scuff plates. 7) I bought Pharaoh 3D floor mats online.

My observations of driving AX5 AT vs XUV500 W6 MT are:

Pros:

  • Suspensions are much better.
  • Fit and finish of interior and exterior is much better
  • Comparatively better audio / MID system
  • More features and kids love their first sunroof vehicle
  • Very efficient AC
  • Headlights looks more effective, yet to check on highway

Cons:

  • No Auto Climate Control in AX5
  • Auto Stop Hybrid system is a pain and you can’t disable it permanently
  • Every time you start the vehicle AC is powered ON
  • No 12V or any other power source at the front row. Only 1 USB port available to charge mobiles
  • Cabin lights aren’t that effective
  • No ambient light
  • Since I drove Manual XUV500 W6, I hardly required to move to 1st gear..Even in the slow traffic it was 2nd or 3rd gear. Now it is auto gear , at slow speed engine grunt is audible but once at the highway it is almost silent.
  • No user manual book hence have to download it in ‘With you Hamesha’ app
  • TPMS could be installed as default (Requested dealer to order and install it at the earliest, hopefully, will get it in 1-2 weeks)
  • XUV500 had lots of storage space in front which is non existent in XUV700.
  • XUV500 used to have a cooled compartment below driver's armrest, to keep cold drinks and chocolate's cool. Now it is just a storage box with no cooling options.

I never thought of living 17 months without any vehicle but after driving this vehicle, it was worth waiting. On top of it getting an introductory price was the Cherry on the cake. Overall, I am really happy that Mahindra and Shiva Automobile, Sahibabad considered my request and offered the Introductory price even 12 months after I requested to hold the delivery. Thank You Mahindra and Shiva Automobile, Sahibabad.

Rumour: Mahindra XUV700 to get 5 new variants, 6-seater option

Mahindra could introduce more automatic and AWD variants, while some petrol and diesel variants might get axed,

We already know that the Mahindra has lined up a 6-seater version of the XUV700. If the latest rumours are true, it could be a part of a massive variant rejig.

Rumours suggest that Mahindra is getting ready to launch 5 new variants of the XUV700, out of which, at least 4 could be introduced by this festive season. These include one mid-range and three high-end trims.

It is said that Mahindra could introduce a new AX5 L variant that could slot between the AX7 and AX7 L variants. The remaining three variants are said to be positioned above the AX7 variant. These could include an AX7 (with a new suffix), AX9 and AX9 L. While some petrol and diesel variants might get axed, the carmaker could introduce more automatic and AWD variants.

Now in addition to new variants, Mahindra might also make a few changes to the features list. A powered tailgate, ventilated front and rear seats, powered IRVM, a sliding 2nd row, updated connected apps and a rear LED strip could be on offer as part of the mid-life refresh.

My XUV700 AX7L after 6 months & 5000km of ownership: Niggles, FE & pics

I had briefly owned a 2014 Q5 2.0 TDI and apart from the build and dynamics, I don't miss that car anymore which is a big thing to say.

BHPian Sumer recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

Completed 6 months and 5000 km of my AX7L P AT. This running is more than I had anticipated as this is not my daily driver. This is used only on leisurely drives and outstation trips. The last trip was to Kuno Jungle Resort where I drove 500+kms within 9.5 hours including a couple of breaks, and truly realised the comfort this car provides. The only minor ownership niggles have been:

  1. Check the engine light which appeared while we were driving to Sawai Madhopur. We panicked, immediately stopped the car, called WithYouHamesha and were guided to drive to our destination. The error cleared up spontaneously within 15 minutes and didn't return. The car was inspected at the ASC there and no active error was found. We drove back to Delhi and I got the car inspected at Koncept Mahindra, sector 59 and a brake system sensor was found to be faulty and was replaced.
  2. The availability of XP95 has to be taken into account when planning long journeys but it is not a very big issue as the Indian Oil website has a helpful route planner
  3. The usual infotainment issues, needless to say, I won't be renewing my Adrenox subscription once it expires.

Overall, the FE I have got is 10.5 (70/30 highway/city) which is at par with what I had expected when buying the car. The comfort, performance and refinement the car provides are unmatched in the segment IMO. A flex of the right foot can take you to illegal speeds very quickly. Overtakes take negligible planning. The suspension setup is just beautiful. The sound system is very good once you have switched off all the artificial 3D surround sound gimmicks (not at par with aftermarket systems of course like the one in my Brezza, but I digress). Grabbing the keys with the butterfly M brings a smile to my face, always. Prior to this, I had briefly owned a 2014 Q5 2.0 TDI and apart from the build and dynamics, I don't miss that car anymore which is a big thing to say.

I got the car polished by the same guy who had ceramic coated my car and recommended and installed my entire Brezza system and damping (can provide details, satisfied) and took it to Lodhi Art District early morning today for some photos. I'll let the photos do the rest of the talking.

Mahindra XUV700 6-seater variant caught testing

The 6-seater layout is likely to be offered on the top trims of the XUV700.

The latest spy images suggest that the Mahindra XUV700 could soon get a 6-seater variant, an alternative to the MG Hector Plus and Tata Safari.

The XUV700 is currently available with 5-seater and 7-seater configurations. The 6-seater version will get separate captain seats for the second row.

Besides the change in seating layout, we don't expect the 6-seater version to be any different from the standard XUV700. The exterior looks identical with the same LED headlamp units, L-shaped LED tail lights and alloy wheels. No changes are expected in the feature list either.

Currently, the XUV700 is available with 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engines. The 6-seater layout is likely to be offered on the top trims, with the high-end diesel variants getting the AWD option.
