My XUV700 AX7L diesel AT AWD: Trips, mileage, good & bad of ownership

Took delivery of the SUV in October and since then it has clocked close to 8,400 km.

BHPian BendO_Rookie recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

Hi everyone,

After a long wait, we finally got our XUV700 AX7L Diesel Automatic All-Wheel Drive (AWD) Midnight Black. Booking was done on 8th Oct 21 and we got it on 18th July 22. We always wanted a fully-loaded vehicle, and secondly, an SUV should have AWD or 4WD. We are a family of 4 (3 adults and a kid) plus a Labrador. With the kids growing, our old Baleno was unable to accommodate us all on our trips.

Some accessories & other basic things I added to my car

  1. 4th and 5th year extended warranty just before the price hike was done.
  2. Rear Bumper, Illuminated Scuff plate, Side step, Pedal Covers, Screen Protector.
  3. PPF from Kriti Car Care Bengaluru.
  4. AWD logo, Car Ceiling Dome Roof Light for 3rd row, Puncture Kit & Car Tire Inflator (from Amazon).
  5. 12V cable extender (from Maruti Suzuki Store).
  6. Upgraded the 5th tire to an actual size Yokohama.

Delivery Experience

  • The experience was positive throughout the process. I got constant updates from the sales team at Sireesh Auto Yelahanka.
  • I got to do my PDI and on that day ODO was 33km.
  • I received my car 4 days after it was received with all paperwork completed by the team.
  • No rear sequential lights.
  • No 2nd key was received.

Trips till date

  • Our 1st Long Trip - (Bengaluru to Hyderabad) - 1400 km round trip
  • Our 2nd Long Trip - (Bengaluru to Rourkela to Hazaribagh) - 4400 km round trip

While I would write about this trip in a separate post, a few things I would like to highlight about the car (some might be repeats from earlier posts) in this forum:

Goods

  • Barring the infotainment screen glitches, the mechanics of the car are simply superb.
  • Feature-wise, this car seems to have everything.
  • AdrenoX App - VI connectivity is a problem otherwise, the remote start option is my favourite used feature.
  • WithYouHamesha App - As I had been using the AdrenoX app, I found out about the fuel log a bit late. It has a handy feature that shows the cost per km.
  • I had driven max 150-180 km at a stretch in my Baleno but now I have done 350-400 km at stretch including bad weather and road.
  • The steering is so light that I don’t like to drive my Baleno now.

Bads

  • The service angle of the car and the expertise of the service centre were below expectations. A lot of scope for improvement is there.
  • Without roof rails, travelling with 7 people’s luggage is difficult.
  • The white interior is difficult to maintain.
  • The gap between the folded 3rd row and 2nd row.
  • Applecare Play has frequent disconnection issues.
  • The suspension thud sound is there but it is a tad erratic.
  • The scuff plate and 5th tire could have been taken back by the service centre. There should be some mechanism to sell it as refurbished.
  • The car gets heated easily with glass all around and some heat protection should have been given

Car Specific Problem

  • There is a sound coming from somewhere between the 3rd row and the 2nd row as if two panels are rubbing against each other. This happens when I cross a hump. However, since I do not want the service guys to open things and check them, I have not highlighted them yet. Maybe I will get it checked in my 10k service.
  • Need to figure out the 5th tyre TPMS, which I got fitted but the configuration was not done by MASC

Current Mileage

  • Tank full to tank full method (T2T) I get about 10 km/l with 70% Bengaluru City Traffic + 30% Highway.
  • On my 2 long trips, I got about 15km/l avg with family and luggage. I am a little heavy-footed driver.
  • I keep all safety and ADAS features ON.

Total kilometres drove - 8391 km

My XUV700 AX7 petrol delivered after 8 months: 7 likes & 5 frustrations

Got both keys and also got the Bridgestone Ecopia tyres and not the MRF ones.

BHPian Abhi.Nittor recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

Finally, I got delivery of my XUV700 AX7 AT Petrol after an 8-month wait. So far, from whatever little I have driven, here are some likes and some frustrations and some questions (on frustrations). Got both keys and also got the Bridgestone Ecopia tyres and not the MRF ones.

Mahindra XUV700 Likes

  1. Just love the cornering lights. They are so amazing that I feel these should become a norm in all larger vehicles. Just fell in love with them
  2. Feel and drive quality. Yet to take it on a highway drive, but so far, the drive in the city has been amazing
  3. Sound quality is really good, even though mine is just a 6-speaker setup
  4. Seat comfort is fabulous
  5. Steering is just amazing. Doesn't make you feel like you are driving a large vehicle
  6. Braking feels very assuring on the road
  7. Midnight black colour, looks awesome but gets dirty quickly

Mahindra XUV700 Frustrations

  1. Breaking my head on how to switch from Android Auto to car functions without taking my attention off my driving. The Voice command button on the steering wheel sometimes brings up Alexa and sometimes Google. Not sure if there is a way to set Android/Google as default when the Android Auto screen is up
  2. Switching to the radio has been a challenge. Need to learn how to do it
  3. Can't see the time when Android Auto is on the main screen unless you swipe left. Should have been on top
  4. Average Fuel Efficiency, fuel log - unable to figure out how to get this on the Adrenox app. it shows 0 fuel in the fuel log, even though I had done a reset
  5. Most of my frustration is around the understanding of the systems. I will get used to it over time

Also need some inputs on good car accessories shops in North Bangalore. Required for installing dashcam and getting a few more aftermarket things done.

Mahindra recalls 19,000+ units of XUV700 & Scorpio-N

6,618 units of the Scorpio-N and 12,566 units of the XUV700 equipped with manual transmissions are affected by this recall

Mahindra has recalled over 19,000 units of the XUV700 and Scorpio-N over a clutch bell housing issue.

According to the carmaker, 6,618 units of the Scorpio-N and 12,566 units of the XUV700 equipped with manual transmissions are affected by this recall to inspect the rubber bellow found inside the clutch bell housing.

As per the official statement, a sorting error at the supplier’s plant may have affected the operational dimensional clearance of the rubber bellow inside the bell housing. Owners of vehicles assembled between July 1 and November 11, 2022 need to get the part inspected and replaced if necessary.

Customers would be individually contacted by the dealership. The inspection and rectification of the faulty component will be done free of cost.

Pics: Got my Mahindra XUV700 AX5 Fitted with an OEM seat cover set

Not recommended if you are going for a lower (MX, AX3, AX5) variant. Your best option is to go aftermarket. I am sticking with them for now.

BHPian RavenAvi recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

Better pics of the OEM Black Deco-stitch seat cover set, as promised:

Front seats - under the evening sun.

Rear seats - likewise.

Front seats - in the shade.

Rear seats - likewise.

Rear armrest.

They aren't black, but more in the Ash Grey shade. As can be judged from the headrest fittings, they don't sit flush either (except for the last row of headrests). I have noticed two more issues - the tumbling rear seat doesn't tumble completely after the seat cover fitment, and the rear armrest doesn't close in fully into its section. Overall, I am not impressed.

Not recommended if you are going for a lower (MX, AX3, AX5) variant. Your best option is to go aftermarket. I am sticking with them for now.

Steering cover by Autoform.

Stitching pattern.

After a long pending body wash.

I have switched to driving in the "Zip" mode in the past few days. Zap mode is overkill for driving inside city limits, especially on the roads filled with the recently-concluded festive season crowds.

The next update will be the Apple CarPlay flashing and (hopefully) a resolution to the power-folding ORVMs issue, which will make the AX5 a more rounded-off variant.

I hate having the dummy ORVM folding switch on my driver's door, knowing that it is useless for now. The techs and the CRM say that the BCM module of the AX5 doesn't support power-folding ORVMs and that the front door harnesses of the AX7 won't help, even if they are installed.

But then again, they said the same thing about the OEM AX7 reverse camera too, didn't they? And we all know how that went.

I am determined to make this work, by hook or by crook. Wish me luck.

Mahindra service recall to resolve XUV700 suspension issue

Mahindra has proactively recalled both petrol and diesel versions of the XUV700 manufactured at its Chakan plant.

Mahindra has issued a service recall for the XUV700 to fix the front suspension noise reported by owners.

According to an official technical service bulletin, Mahindra will replace the front lower control arm and its rear control bush to address the issues faced by XUV700 owners.

It is said that several XUV700 owners have reported “gud-gud” noise emanating from the front suspension. Taking note of this, Mahindra has proactively recalled both petrol and diesel vehicles manufactured at its Chakan plant. The VIN cut-off for the affected units is N6K18709.

This is not the first time that Mahindra has issued a service recall to address a technical fault in the XUV700. The carmaker recalled the all-wheel drive variants in July this year. Another recall was issued to fix the turbocharger and alternator belt issues.

Thanks to BHPian RavenAvi for sharing this information with other enthusiasts!

XUV700 ownership riddled with issues: Multiple problems over 10 months

If Mahindra doesn’t give a fix to the issues the thought of moving to another vehicle is going to grow on me.

BHPian zeus_700 recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

Yesterday during a 3 kilometres drive to reach the house the blank screen happened 5 times. It comes after a ding sort of notification sound and immediately both screens go blank and it takes 5 seconds to return to normalcy. When it comes back the instrument cluster always stays at Drive Info, wherein I always keep the instrument cluster option with fuel info.

This issue I have noticed occasionally (Maybe two or three times every month) when the car is in switched off condition and having seated in the car or during unlocking the car and opening the boot when suddenly some thud sounds start in the speakers and stop in less than 10 seconds. When I switch the ignition again the cluster will show drive info instead of my normal setting of fuel info and the fuel statistics also gets reset. Have reported this case already to service centre folks and the answer I got was should be some OTA updates.

The more serious issue of the blank screen during driving which occurred 5 times yesterday is after the CarPlay update which was done on 28 September. When this happened I was on calls and the person at the other end said he can hear some bursting crackers sort of sounds (loud thuds).

Now coming to CarPlay itself, it’s nothing short of a dismal update.

Issues faced so far have been listed below:

  1. Disconnects often
  2. Screen becomes unresponsive. If you touch any button it’s dead.
  3. Disconnection happens both in wired and wireless modes. Please note I use the original Apple charging cable only.
  4. Songs crack up while playing and it resumes normally after an eternity.
  5. Frequent popping up of “error establishing a connection with CarPlay” message.

Other issues faced so far in 10 months of ownership:

  1. On Day 1 after taking delivery both the screens went blank and got fixed on their own.
  2. Adrenox started to slow down 6 months into ownership, even a command like pressing the phone button on the steering wheel the called list will display after 40 seconds. Reported this to the service centre and as usual, they brushed it off by saying it requires a software update. After the update matters worsened. Can’t even explain the mess after that software update such as the connectivity issues.
  3. Football in the boot from 2 months into ownership.
  4. Creaking noise from broken discs/pads while moving from a standstill. Mine is an Automatic variant and service folks said all automatic vehicles are like this. Though I know it’s not the case I didn’t want to pursue this further as there is no point in talking to them.
  5. The biggest issue is the service centre staff and their attitude. They are very unresponsive and know zilch about this vehicle. I have had so poor customer service from AMPL Guindy, Chennai and have moved with Zulaikha. At least they are responsive so far. Gave them the vehicle for 2nd service at 10k kilometres and CarPlay was updated by them.

Things which I am happy about:

  1. Everything apart from those two screens on the dashboard.

My vehicle is AX5 D AT and has done 11.3k kilometres.

The way forward - Keeping fingers crossed and expecting Mahindra to give a robust fix to these issues. If Mahindra doesn’t give a fix to the issues the thought of moving to another vehicle is going to grow on me. I am getting into my mid-40s and have put my hard-earned money of 2.1 million rupees into this. At this stage of my life would I want to do that? Well, we’ll see what the future holds.

Here's what BHPian Tanmay007 had to say on the matter:

Pretty sure you have a faulty silver box, push the service centre for replacement. I've had the car for close to 6 months now and the blank screen issue occurred just 1 time during the initial days. I have never seen it again.

The CarPlay disconnections could have several reasons, the primary being an overheated iPhone or an older model. Another reason might be the wifi radio in the car itself (which is again related to the silver box).

I'm sorry to hear about infotainment-related issues but know that these are not normal and there are customers like me for whom the system works fairly well.

Doubting my XUV700 purchase decision: Multiple issues, no fix in sight!

This entire episode has left a bad taste of the entire ownership experience with this SUV

BHPian bill1182 recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

For the past few days have been facing lots of issues with my XUV 700 AX7 D. I have now started doubting my decision to purchase this car.

Some time back I read some posts and saw videos about a few YouTubers selling their cars due to niggles and I thought they were trying to make an issue out of nothing significant but now I think they were not entirely wrong.

For the past few weeks, I am forced to visit the Mahindra service centre for some other issue. The overall ownership experience has been far from what one would expect. Mahindra has a very very long way to go when it comes to making a niggle free vehicle. After what I have been experiencing, I would think twice before taking my vehicle on a long trip.

The issue started with Thudding and Kat Kat noise from front suspensions. I have also posted a video showing the exact scenarios under which the noise used to come. As a resolution to the said issue, I was told to get my vehicle to the service centre for Suspension head mount replacement. When I gave my vehicle for replacement, a few other service actions were shown by the Mahindra system which included software updates.

During the software update, it bricked the DATC ECU which handles the entire Automatic Climate Control. The only option was to replace the DATC ECU. This is a small black box which sits behind the climate control unit. The car was kept for a week at the service centre for the part to arrive. While replacing the ECU, the technician damaged the Silver trim on the dashboard and also damaged the centre console.

After taking the delivery of the vehicle, when I checked for the functioning of the AC unit, I noticed that the airflow was coming from the vents near the windshield and the flow was not getting diverted from the front vents. The AC controls were not working. It was then identified that the AC vent actuator motor had some issues and had to be replaced. I had to wait for a week for the replacement motor to arrive and it took 2 days for the service centre to replace the motor and get the AC fixed.

Along with the above issues, the car had also developed issues with the left side latch assembly where the front left door outside handle was getting stuck mid-way and the rear left door was getting stuck when trying to open from the inside. Reported this issue while getting the AC actuator replaced and the latch assembly was replaced under warranty.

Finally got the vehicle with AC working as expected on 27th September.

Used the car for a couple of days and then has to travel to Ahmedabad for a week. Thought of travelling by my Dad's Honda City. XUV was not used for a week. To my shock, when I started the car on 08th October I saw one of the scariest warnings on the console.

I immediately informed the COTEK and CSM. I was asked to get the car to the service centre for scanning. After checking the error codes, they felt it could be a weak battery as the car was not used for a week. There was no starting issue with the car but the system was showing a couple of error codes around a drop in voltage, a LIN sensor error for dry lines going to DEF, and a couple of codes for ADAS.

Suspecting the battery issue, I was asked to get the battery checked for issues with Charging, holding the charge and Gravity. Got it checked the next day with an Amaron dealer near my residence. As per the battery guy, there was no issue with the battery or the alternator.

I was able to replicate the Check Engine light issue by stopping the engine by pressing the Engine On/Off button and then immediately pressing the Engine On/Off button again to bring the car to standby mode.

While the battery guy was checking the battery, I suddenly noticed that the Engine Coolant was below the minimum mark in the reservoir. The car was not showing any extreme temperature warning though.

I immediately rushed to the service centre on 09th October and brought this to the notice. There is no apparent leak from any of the hoses or from the reservoir. We filled the reservoir with Coolant and took the vehicle for a test ride. Apparently, the Check Engine light issue seems to have got resolved and I was not able to replicate it after filling the coolant. I am not sure if there is any link between low coolant and a Check Engine System warning.

I was asked to drive the vehicle for a day and check if the coolant quantity is getting low. I had quite a bit of city driving today. When I checked the coolant quantity today morning, it had reduced slightly from what we had filled yesterday. We had fixed a piece of tape to mark the level of coolant in the reservoir as it was slightly off from the Max quantity mark.

Though it was slightly lower than the MAX mark, I took a chance and took the car to work. Did around 50 kilometres with crazy bumper-to-bumper traffic on JVLR and Ladakh like a ride through the Aarey milk colony (Bhpians from Mumbai would know what I mean). As expected, the coolant was just under the MIN mark when I was back home by evening.

Tried to search for the leak and finally found a big wet patch on the underbody cover. I am not sure if this patch is due to coolant leakage as it is below the engine and I am not able to see any visible pink-coloured liquid. All I see is a big patch which looks fresh. It is slightly greasy to the touch and does not show any pink liquid. Could this be due to the oil change which was done during the first service a few months back?

Where would the leakage from if this patch is due to coolant?

Another thing to note is that the Check Engine System alert again started appearing when I tried doing the quick Stop Start sequence.

Have been asked to get the car to the service centre again tomorrow for fixing the above issues.

This entire episode has left a bad taste of the entire ownership experience with this car. This shows that companies are using customers as guinea pigs and testing their half-baked products at the cost of the customer.

Visiting the workshop has become my weekly routine.

I have also escalated this matter to Mr Anand Mahindra using his official email address but have not received any response from him or any of the senior management guys at Mahindra.

I am pretty sure, these generic CMD email IDs are handled by some escalation teams and the head of the organization would have no idea about what is happening in reality.

Does anyone know anybody in the senior management who can help me with these issues? It would be a great help if any of the form members could help me with the contact details of some senior management team members at Mahindra.

Update:

Took the car to MASS today morning and got it inspected. The patch on the underbody cover had increased significantly confirming that there was a definite leak from somewhere.

On removing the underbody cover, found a leak from a plastic elbow-like pipe which connects the Radiator hose to the engine.

The service advisor says that the hose is cracked and would need replacement.

Now the MASS says, they do not have the part ready and they are trying to procure it from another workshop of Mahindra. This will again take a few days and the car would be unusable.

This shows the level of quality control followed by the company. To cope with huge orders, they have compromised on quality. I have never in my entire history of owning multiple vehicles, seen a radiator hose getting damaged/cracked within a few months and a few thousand kilometres.

Just imagine such a failure when you are out with your family on a vacation to a remote location like Ladakh. How can one trust the reliability of this vehicle in long run?

I have written to Mr Anand Mahindra and his team on Twitter but as usual, no response from Mahindra. Will be documenting the case by sending an email to their official customer service email address and to the CMD email address.

The last option would be to take the matter to consumer court if things are not addressed properly by the company.

Here's what BHPian Smartomotive had to say on the matter:

I completely resonate with your frustration and experience. I'm in the same boat. Sending my vehicle once again for a 3-day deep check (that's what they want to do now) and for them to figure out the issues and fix them.

Service centre people are also clueless and told me, they'll be giving remote access to the plant folks for them to debug and give a solution.

I was supposed to drop off the vehicle today (on Monday) but the manager said they're full with XUV700s to update/apply fixes for the recalls and even confirmed a few other vehicles having exact issues like mine and told me they're replacing the silver box itself and may have to do the same with my vehicle too.

This is my 6th visit in a span of 3 months, 4 attempts have already been made to fix the blank screen issue and this is still reoccurring in addition to a bunch of other problems

I highly doubt we would be able to keep this vehicle for any time long.

XUV700 niggles: Spent an entire day at the Mahindra service centre

The experience was excellent, but Mahindra really needs to have strict measures in place on the number of cars coming in per day.

BHPian Tanmay007 recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

Both my parking sensors went dead so visited the service centre today. Unfortunately, they were out of stock for my colour and they have placed an order.

While at the service centre, I received my 2nd key and pairing for the key was done. I can finally make use of the linking key to the user profile/memory seats feature.

A good chunk of time was also spent on wheel alignment and trying to solve a left pull issue that I've been facing recurrently. It seems to be solved for now (just like before) but going to have to test it some more.

I asked the cotek there about CarPlay Apple Maps in instrument cluster feature and was surprised he did not know about it at all. I had to showcase to him the ridiculous workaround of first starting the nav of built-in maps and then starting the Apple Maps nav to get it to display in IC. He shot a video & sent it to Mahindra and see what they have to say.

There was no turbocharger-related recall for my May manufactured diesel AT. So it could be limited to a prior or a specific lot.

I had to spend almost the entire day at the Thane service centre cause of the crazy number of cars they receive. Mahindra really needs to offer a separate experience for their premium offerings or at least have strict measures in place to only see a certain number of vehicles per day and/or by appointment only.

The service personnel experience though is excellent, majorly because the SA assigned to me always makes sure to give me ample time and personally looks into getting the issues resolved.

Blaupunkt DH05 reversing camera on my XUV700: Installation & experience

Please note that the wiring kit that comes with DH05 is not compatible with the XUV.

BHPian sbm recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

I installed Blaupunkt DH05 in my AX5 today. Although the picture quality during the day is acceptable and the angle is pretty wide, I am appalled by the nighttime quality. I do not have experience regarding this matter, so please have a look at the attached pictures and tell me if it's like this only at night or if have I purchased the wrong/fake camera.

Please note that the wiring kit that comes with DH05 is not compatible with XUV, so either ask your service guys to arrange the original wiring kit separately or else buy the cheaper bumper-mount Mahindra camera (the one that costs Rs 2500) and use the wiring from that along with the Blaupunkt DH05 (both cameras are interchangeable). The total cost this way will be Rs 2500 for the Mahindra camera and Rs 2500 or so for the DH05 camera, i.e., Rs 5000. What you get extra with the DH05 is the moving guidelines and a much better viewing angle as compared to the AW60118 (Rs 3000) camera from Mahindra.

To summarise, I would say that those who are not in a hurry should try getting the AX7 camera installed in their car from a service centre. If they are not willing or don't know how to do it, wait for Bhpian Ravenavi's report on the same and then talk to your service guys to follow the same procedures.

Also, they did a software update to version 8, and after that, the DISCLAIMER remains there for a longer time, and the infotainment takes a long time to boot up at the start of the trip. Even if you engage the reverse gear, the screen shows DISCLAIMER and you can't see the rearview cam display. It works fine once the system is booted up. Is there any way to communicate these bugs to Mahindra?

A weird niggle on my Mahindra XUV700 AX7 petrol AT: Need advice

The fuel indicator on the left was constantly blinking and the level was glaring red. The range, however, was still showing a comfortable 222 km more to go.

BHPian IamNikhil recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

I had filled about 15 litres of petrol in the evening for a run around town for some work. The fuel indicator showed the requisite increment in fuel in the car and was reflected in the approx range on the MID as well. After a couple of hours, post a few stops, had halted at a location for over half an hour. Came back and started the car to be greeted with the "Low Fuel" audio warning and the blinking notification. The fuel indicator on the left was constantly blinking and the level was glaring red. The range, however, was still showing a comfortable 222 km more to go. Also, since I had just filled up fuel a few hours ago and that too from my regular HPCL outlet, I was confident about the range indicated on the MID, even though it's an approximation. By this time, I had barely driven 20 km and definitely not 200 km; plus there wasn't any bumper-to-bumper traffic either so there was no reason for the range to dip to such a monstrous extent.

First thought: Is there fuel leakage? Stepped down from the car and examined the car and the underbelly with the phone flashlight. Everything seemed to be in place and no indication of leakage whatsoever, no smell either inside or outside the car. Tried shutting off the vehicle completely and restarting around 3-4 times but the same recurring issue constantly.

Finally decided to take a break and just walk around the block for a bit and try restarting after around 10 mins. Went back and fired the ignition, praying all the while for things to be right. Lo and behold, the boot-up happened normally and everything was spick & span like nothing ever happened. Drove for a km or so and the Adrenox app sent multiple notifications stating "Fuel Filled", these had not arrived when I had actually filled fuel a few hours ago.

Not sure what the niggle is, but will be taking the car to the Service Centre in a few days for the Apple Carplay update; have to get this checked then.

Here's what BHPian haribalram had to say on the matter:

On a serious note, an automobile needing to manage so many hardware components needs a very robust Operating system. At the moment, it appears a very fragmented universe with each manufacturer doing their own thing.

I am hoping for some consolidation through an open source or closed source OS (Android / Linux examples from other worlds) that reduces individual R & D for manufacturers but also adds maturity to the OS over time.

Perhaps, there is already something going in this direction that I may be unaware.
