Can you please share more details of SD25 like normal temperature ,max rpm etc ? I can't go for a 3+L engine as jeep is my daily drive. What about a turbo on SD25 ? anybody tried that ?

Koya,

DrJones spent over a lakh on his sd25 rebuild.. the scorpio engine + ngt530 sounds way more sensible..

beg borrow steal, do it right.

Today I am going to the workshop to check the condition of the Engine If it can run for another 25-40K there won't be much problem at least I will get time to find a SZ2600 Plus . Prabhuettoo total Confusion :( .

Can you explain why, Sreejesh? Is it because it would be too torquey to ride?

Probably because of the low FE higher capacity engines give.

I am not sure that is true. My 14B 540 gave 13.5 kmpl on Ahmedabad-MCUBE-Ahmedabad (~1400 kms) trip. Strangely, its the most fuel-efficient vehicle I have in the house

P.S. It runs on 4.27 crown-pinion and the noisy KMT-90

MM550 XD NGCS - The War Horse-mechanic-inspecting.jpg

Mechanic inspecting the NGCS.
His suggestion was First we should open the head and check the condition of the Engine, swap the engine to SD25 If the XD3P needs an immediate Engine Rebuild.

After 2-3 Sleepless days and serious discussion with Dhanush,Pratheesh and referring almost all discussion about the Engine swap/options thread in the forum, and checking the wallet again and again I finalized SD25+NGT520 (I was not sure and satisfied) next day I got the call from Mechanic Maniettan , I went to the workshop and He explained the current condition of the Engine.

MM550 XD NGCS - The War Horse-20130211_093605_458.jpg
According to him The Engine is good , Head is in superb condition, no signs of corrosion ,no damage at the head gasket seatings.. etc, So he suggested to change the Gasket for now and the low Oil pressure should be because of the faulty Meter (I don't know) He says oil is circulation is fine so Pump and the Bearings are Ok May be the some lose in the Power But It can run normally for min 30-50K Kms.

So the engine swap is on Hold for sometime.

She was asking Why the Jeep is always in the Workshop .

Now we disassembled the NGT520 and found all the synchronizers/locks need to be replaced and 2 bearings. Gears and shafts are in perfect condition.

What is the OE GB Oil for NGT520 ? service Manuel says 80 W90 GL4 .

Santhosh,

A simple Engine Flush on old engines can give you Surprises . All your Engine will get cleaned and it will start giving Marks.

So no Acid bath or SPA therapy for now. I am sure it will make my Engine swap earlier than I am expecting .

Sreejesh,

Your having a wonderful machine with a LEGEND spec.

Please maintain with a DI Turbo or OE engine and enjoy it.

Dont mess it up, it will be an irreversible process with lot of monetary and time loss ending up with non satisfied soul and machine !!.

Will realize this in a hard way after long time.

Rajith,

So you are not satisfied with the MM540 with Isuzu Diesel ? What was the real reason behind the purchase of that totally modified 540 ?

Can you please throw some more light on this , I only need the low end boost. Which are the available Turbos can be used in a XD3P , I really interested to experiment before I change My Engine to SZ2600 Plus.

GB overhauling continues.. purchased only the needed parts as I am planning for NGT530.

Second gear is good but it lost the polish so Mechanic told to change that gear.

I was lucky and my purchase was a deal.MM with ISZ performs like a breeze , which you have witnessed during BAOTR 2013 .

Guy who made it has spend a huge fortune on it with enormous time.Choice is yours.

Rajith ,

You have a Thar CRDe , Then why you bought a 540 with Isuzu Diesel rather than a stock 540/550 or the real MM550 ISZ ? I need the real reason is it the power ? or the package you got with the 540 for the price ? . But its again a messed up one right ? can you please share the maintenance cost you spend after the purchase ? still can't be used for a real Offroad trial where one can easily take their Stock jeep without any worry !! So its all about the right combination on a right vehicle.

Lets check the Thar CRDe, what makes a CRDe a true winner on Old jeeps ? I believe Its the "Engine" what will happen if you put a XD3P on a Thar CRDe ?

""Please maintain with a DI Turbo or OE engine and enjoy it.

What is the Mess if I use SZ2600+NGT530 ? its better than using heavy engines ,GB designed for entirely different manufacture right ?

I really enjoying the Jeep thing.. It the only vehicle which makes me think, feel and experiment.

I still believe "Real Jeeps are Build not Bought" .

MM ISZ for your reference.

Dear Rajith - you are correct. I have also seen many enthusiastic people spend their hard earned money on Jeeps, not realizing any value or enjoyment at all for no fault of theirs. They get "right royally" taken and there is no shortage of "takers"! .

Dear Sreejeshmp - if your XD3P engine cylinder head is good, please put it back and use it. Do whatever it takes to ensure that your Jeep remains with you and not in the workshop, then you will at least enjoy some portion of it. Please don't go in for engine swaps etc, it involves a lot of serious engineering design, development and validation which does not come so easily, even if you are prepared to pay handsomely for it. I see a huge shortage of people having "Product Clarity" in my area of daily work, so I know, believe you me! Final decision is of course yours only.

Best regards,

Behram Dhabhar
