Amp:
1) Kenwood KAC 845 (5000/-) or KAC 846 (6000/-) or JBL GT646 (5200)?

My taste is CLEAN with GOOD bass, do not like it bright.
Music I listen to ranges from hard rock to mellow hindi numbers.
I want good front stage.
are the prices mentioned here with B&W ?

Re: Queries in 'Ask the gurus' section

Assuming that my 4 channel amp can run stable at 2 ohms, is it possible to run it in the following way(s):

Front channels to power components in 4 ohms mode
Rear channels bridged to run subwoofer in 2 ohms mode?

Re: Queries in 'Ask the gurus' section

As far as i know the impedance suggests that the amp can run stable for impedance as low as 2 Ohms. IMO it should work fine. Gurus please clarify !

You can bridge channels to connect a 4 ohms sub - that will work fine since the load on each channel would then be 2 ohms. But you will not be able to connect a 2 ohms (or 4ohms DVC) sub, since then the load will be 1 ohm per channel.

@DerAlte - Yes that is the plan. I will be bridging the rear channels to connect a 4 ohm SVC sub. Infact, I just figured that my speakers, as well as sub are both 4 ohms impedance. Till yest, I was under the impression that components can be driven 2 ohms.

Given that fact, can I still drive my amp in 2 ohm impedance (in order to derive higher power), or will it automatically be driven in 4 ohms only?

No, speakers and subs are passive components with constant impedance (it varies slightly with frequency when driven, but that is another discussion) - they cannot 'demand' power that way, nor can the amp 'force' more power into them than the situation demands and what it is tuned for.

What do you mean by 'mode'?

You have stereo mode and bridged mode but not 2 ohm and 4 ohms mode.

Do not connect a 2 ohms subwoofer to a bridged amp. Most amps will not handle that.

BTW JBL/Infinity speakers officially called '2 ohms' are actually closer to 2.7 ohms.

Some amps wlill remain stable at 2 ohms, some amps will not. Please check with the amplifier maufacturer.

Re: Queries in 'Ask the gurus' section

Hello ICE Gurus,

Just a small query. The system in my M-800 goes off beyond a certain volume. For example, if i increase the volume to 22 or 23 the head unit goes off and restarts. What is the reason for this? The unit is pretty old. The car has a kenwood mp3 cd player with kenwood speakers. I am sorry I do not know the model numbers.

Re: Queries in 'Ask the gurus' section

One of the reasons could be a short circuit somewhere. Check the speaker cabling and the speakers themselves.

Re: Queries in 'Ask the gurus' section

Are there not digital amplifliers in Car audio, like those in home audio based on Tripath chips (e.g. Topping TP-20). These are quite small in size. And I hear they perform quite well.

Re: Queries in 'Ask the gurus' section

Hi All,

I will be getting Figo EXI in couple of days. Need to get basic ICE for same. EXI has no speakers. So need to get speakers + player. Basic USB one looks fine. JBL 333 seems to be a decent choice.
Checked at a shop and they quoted at 3K for JBL 333. Basic Kenwood speaker at 1.4K and JBL at 1.9K per speaker (for door speakers). Are these prices reasonable?

Any other basic ICE at say 8-10K. Figo has provision for 2DIN system so checked price of 2DIN system. Shop here quoted some 14K or 18K (I guess Pioneer) !!
Where as Ford OEM system (Sony according to dealer) is 13K (with 4 speakers). Speakers bought separately will cost 4K fro set of 4 speakers. So only 7K for SONY 2DIN?

I have bought a pioneer AVH2300 DVD already from US
and got a quote of 13k for infinity prime(comp. speakers ),rear co-axials(infinity), rear camera with night vision and fittings ..What do you guys think? is it a good one?

Am ok with stretching the budget for another 3-4k . Can anyone suggest with a better speakers in that range ?

i am planning to do it in the next weekend.. appreciate some suggestions..

Are you sure it is Infinity Prime??? Prime is associated with Rockford-Fosgate. Infinity has Reference, Kappa and Kappa Perfect series.

For a combo offer, the quote seems to be decent (I am assuming INR13K = USD260) IF it is Infinity. Where did you get this offer? Fry's, Best Buy, ...?
