Re: Queries in 'Ask the gurus' section

Is it possible to have a good ICE setup without rear speakers ? Don't want to compromise boot space in Spark.

Yes you can, or you could have rear speakers installed in the rear doors. Does the Spark have rear door speaker locations? if not a little cutting might be involved.

No it doesn't. Don't want to go the cutting way.
Will a pair of Illusion electra 4.1 as front speakers be good enough ?

The music will miss the bass. 4" woofers dont push much air.

Okay. Actually i don't want to compromise on boot space, so for the time being i ll go ahead with the front speakers. If it isn't sufficient then i ll add the rear speakers as well.
If front only, would the regular JBL speakers be good enough or should i go for Kicker/Illusion ?

Re: Queries in 'Ask the gurus' section

Hi Guys especially Baba Samananada ,

I have booked Chevy Beat LS. Am getting Sony/JVC branded HU and 4 speakers worth rs 13K. Can I have something good in this budget, or should I go with the dealer provided system. My requirements are:
1. The complete Hu and speaker set should be within 15K
2. It should have USB and Ipod compatibility
3. It should have provision of adding sub at a later stage.

Inputs required ASAP. I have to finalize a deal with the accessories guy today!!

Thanks in advance.

Re: Queries in 'Ask the gurus' section

Hi Gurus,

I am planning to book Alto K10. Can you recommend me a good ICE setup for it.

My Budget is 20K (max).

My requirement is

1. I don't want to compromise on the sound quality. So " Good Sound Quality"

2. Headunit doesn't need to be flashy. A basic looking unit is also ok, but should support AUX and USB.

Also any idea if we can ask Maruti Showroom guys to fit in these components in the brand new car, so that the warranty is not affected.

Thanks in advance.
Sushil.

Re: Queries in 'Ask the gurus' section

Hi, As part of my ICE upgrade, I am planning to buy the Infinity Kappa Four Amplifier for my Swift. Also, planning to get the speakers, but here is my confusion. I am looking at 2 options:
1. Image Dynamics CTX 65
2. FOCAL Polyglass 165VB
The confusion is, the Infinity Kappa Four delivers 125W per channel (4 ohms), which ID speakers are 60W RMS, and the Focals are 70W RMS. Is this is good choice? If not, can you please suggest some that will go with the Amp? Just to let you know, I am currently at Canada, and hence planned to get these upgrades from here (or USA). Any suggestions please!

I would suggest considering Kenwood as well. They have a reputation for better SQ than either Sony or JVC.

If you are looking to add a suwoofer later your HU should have 3 pre outs OR have 2 pre outs where the rear pre outs can be configured to control a subwoofer (amplifier).

You should get a good HU + 4 speakers + a 4 ch. amp. for 20K. In fact you could have 1-2K left over. Use this money to damp the front doors.

Both speakers are good. The thermal ratings are only a guide and not sacred.

Thanks Navin. I have decided on the Focals. So, do you mean, I can safely play the Focals with the Infinity Kappa Four Amp, without the risk of frying them. Do you suggest any other speakers in this range? Or, should I go for a different Amp altogether?

Re: Queries in 'Ask the gurus' section

Gurus.. How does the JBL GT5-644 amp fare against Hertz and Polk db comps? Is the amp powerful enough to drive these comps? And also, how good are "Connection" audio cables?

Yes you can safely play the Focals using the Kappa amp. If you set the LPF high enough (say 80Hz/12db) you should not damage the Focals.

The 644 amp is adequate for most speakers and all reparts say that Connection Audio cables are quite good (though I have never heard them).

Thanks Sir. What do have to say about the comps? Hertz or Polk? Budget - 8k. Only other options being JBL & Infinity. My music library contains a mix of trance, electro, house, slow instrumentals and limited bollywood.
