Thanks for the informative post Ram. How much do equivalent 6x4 Tippers from Tata (2516) or even AMW or AL Taurus based ones cost ?
And how much does the tractor variant (just the head) of the 280 cost ?

Karnataka Govt launches 50 volvos at Rupee One offer!!

The Karnataka govt launched 50 more Volvo city buses at a introductory offer with just One Rupee for a ride for the first four days. This is done for people to use Volvo and differentiate the difference.

They have also launched a new track for the BMTC bus drivers for training.

New Volvos for Bangalore city [KA 01]

Thanks for the nice pictures, nbr.

1) I suppose these must be built on the Volvo B7RLE citybus chassis
as opposed to the B7R used for intercity coaches.

2) Where was the third picture (models inside the building) taken?

3) Would you please transliterate and translate for us? My handicap is, I can't read Kannada.

Ram ,

The third picture is of the new training facility somewhere in Basavangudi for the BMTC drivers.

The signboard was displayed just to wish everybody for having these new buses.

Cheers

Bangalore's One Rupee Volvo ride is a Hit

This offer of One rupee per ride is a smashing hit. All Volvo buses were overcrowded for the first time, since they launched these services. This is indeed a positive way of getting people to try out the comfort of a Volvo and the normal city buses

Here is a detailed analysis of why BRT in Indian cities will struggle.

Why India’s Bus Rapid Transit Projects don’t excite me

Mercedes-Benz bus Coachbuilt by Sutlej. But I guess on the same lines as the Vanhool or the Kassbohrer built busses having chassis from Mercedes Volvo etc.

But I guess Volvo was getting back to manufacturing their own in India.

It looks more SUTLEJ than a genuine Mercedes Benz.

The Mercedes Benz bus definitely looks like a sticker job. Its most possibly a Tata or Leyland rear engined chassis, difinitely not Benz. Looks too much like B7R and Benz would not put up the 3 pointed star on the mirrors
