These days, I keep seeing a white coloured prototype of a truck undergoing testing on the Mumbai Bangalore bypass highway.
It is white in colour (with black stripes on it to disguise), and has a tank(er) mounted on it. I do not know if its a Tata, but there is a big chance that its not too. I have never managed to get a good look at it, but its front end looks somewhat like the one on eicher trucks.
Commercial Vehicle Thread-_eicherupload_cv_30.25.jpg
But it looks much bigger than any of Eicher's current models. If anybody has had a better look at it, do let us know which model it is.

Well, a proper toilet can definitely be accomodated.

And nothing else. Pls do check the size of the loading area. And the engine's capabilities. Both these important factors make it un-suitable for anything of comfort.

Any discussion about putting in a better engine, and increasing space & size will take the topic in a totally different direction.

@TheARUN, pls use the multi-quote feature. Noticed you have posted 3 different & consecutive posts in a span of 20 minutes here.

I really dont udnerstand why the Eicher Galaxy series nad the smaller series.. is not doing that well. i find them light years ahead than Tata or AL in build quality.

I have seen a couple of Premier Roadstars being used on the road. I hear they have a better payload capacity than the ACE too.I think it comes with a 2L NA diesel engine. I guess where the tendency is to buy the bare minimum, its high(er) price maybe a deterrent to ACE/Force motors buyers.
But I guess the company is into active production too. I used see their bus ferrying employees almost everyday. :P

Lovely pics! Lovely Truck!

[quote=kpzen;1003152]MAN's 18 wheeler tanker with GPS.

Attachment 56105

Tad out of focus, but still a lot of detail. The way the gears are arranged. Does it mean first and second are sequential once you get it into that slot? Or do you just press forward after engaging the first? Confusing

Attachment 56107

What are those two red switches/lights in the bottom right corner of this snap? They seem to show some axles and differential position! Any idea?

BTW, is this a direct import or an output of the Force MAN collaboration?

MAN CLA-40.280 tractor head hauling Chinese tank trailer

kpzen: Thanks for your post and the pics.

How do you know the truck has a GPS system?
Do you have a pic of the GPS user interface?

Commercial Vehicle Thread-layout.jpg

Interesting that the tank trailer was Chinese made, as evident from the Fuwa trailer axles made by GuangDong Fuwa Engg. Mfg Co., Ltd.

Commercial Vehicle Thread-guangdongfuwatraileraxle.jpg

Point of information: Does anybody know the difference between inboard drum axles and outboard drum axles?

Glifford,
The gearbox is the ZF 9S-1310 nine-speed gearbox.
It has 8 forward speeds plus Overdrive.

Commercial Vehicle Thread-gearlever.jpg

Speed ratios of 1:9.48 to 1:0.75

So one would imagine that there has to be some extraneous mechanism to select 5th gear after 4th.

Another issue would be how to select the 9th gear "O" for Overdrive after 8th gear.

Also baffled by those switches. If I were to hazard a guess, they could be for higher-model CLA 49.280
to select between 6x2 mode and 6x4 mode.

First i was told by the driver but when i checked out, it turned out to be some Indian jugaad and not an OEM accessory from MAN.. It was placed behind the driver's seat(on top).
Forgot to take pics of GPS as i was offered a TD.

IIRC the tank trailer was made by SHIMOTO.

There's a clip like thing on the gear lever itself which needs to pulled up to slot the 5th gear.
