Re: Direct-To-Home television in India. Update DTH HD announced

Read in today's TOI that Tata Sky and Airtel DTH are broadcasting the Cricket World Cup in HD on ESPN HD Channel .

Apparently, all other DTH operators who provide HD services are still in talks with ESPN to include the HD channel in their services.

Not exactly, i think you pay 50% of the package fee. 150 could be because your package is 300/month.

Re: Direct-To-Home television in India. Update DTH HD announced

I have a mega pack, and so the additional connection/STB is Rs.150 pm. They are advertising all over the place but seem to be only interested in Metros. No HD is tier II cities (they conformed on the phone as late as yesterday), but I have information about someone in Meerut getting a HD box from Delhi (on the advice of CC) and it is being activated in Meerut today.

@ addyhemmige That's the news. Recently I changed to TataSky HD.

By the way, do we need to pay anything more than HD Gold pack?

Cheers!

Re: Direct-To-Home television in India. Update DTH HD announced

Has anybody got the Zee Khana Khazana package added automatically to their subscription in DishTV? I was charged for 2 months before I came to knew. I asked them to refund me the wrongly charged amount and remove the channel. They refused to do the first and and amazingly, don't even remove the channel despite repeated requests!

In another incident, when my antennae got misaligned, the technician didn't come for almost 10 days for the paid visit despite promising 24 hours. On top of that, some guy misbehaved and put down the phone when I complained about the delay. Because of pre-paid system, I am having to continue with DishTV, but for others I guess its better to stay away!

On the other hand, I am very satisfied with my Airtel IPTV (I can see any program from last 7 days from many channels without a DVR). They will come and change the modem, set top box, remote etc without cost if anything gets spoiled. Such a difference between the service of Dish TV and Airtel!

Such a pity there is no HD on my IPTV. Anybody knows a good IPTV system with HD?

No idea actually. I have the Airtel DTH HD which provides only 'one' HD channel while all the others are offering 'two' full time HD channels and atleast some upscaled channels

That said, I still haven't received any sort of communication from Airtel regarding when they will start broadcasting the ESPN HD channel and whether they will charge anything for that.

Re: Direct-To-Home television in India. Update DTH HD announced

I just received a message from Airtel saying that ESPN HD was available on Ch 223 and that I had to pay Rs. 150 + tax to subscribe to it.

This is pure daylight robbery from Airtel. First of all they have only one HD channel and they have the audacity to charge 150 something bucks for a channel which will probably be around for just a month

Btw, are Tata Sky subscribers supposed to pay any subscription?

Re: Direct-To-Home television in India. Update DTH HD announced

I have the Sun HD and they have the worst customer service of all. Although I must say that Dish TV run them close. I had Dish for a couple of years before that.
Just ordered a Tata Sky + HD for the World cup. Supposed to get installed by Saturday.
Did someone write that the Tata Sky does not output 5.1 over HDMI? That makes no sense at all. The Sun TV box does. (It does over Optical too)

Even the Airtel STB does not give 5.1 output for HD channels through HDMI. I have not tried the optical way yet. Are other Airtel users also experiencing the same?

Btw, I watched part of the world cup opening ceremony in HD and it was great

How do we check if we get 5.1 audio out through HDMI apart from listening to the speakers?

I have connected the stb to my home theater receiver. It shows the source of the audio as stereo

Apparently Dish TV announced yesterday the launch of 30 HD channels ! But from the various forums it appears that most of these would be upscaled.
